This is how my Amazon shipped PS5 arrived

Meant to post this earlier but I was too enthralled with actually playing games...I pre-ordered the PS5back on Sept 16th in the middle of the night when the direct to cart links for Amazon started appearing on forums/twitter. I managed to secure a system, controller, charging station, and headphones all that night. Like many, I watched my order status go without updates for ages, until finally a week before shipping I got the launch day shipping update.

Day of launch I was refreshing my tracking page on UPS constantly. We had pretty heavy rain that week so I was worried about the water, so I even went into the UPS site and added a note to deliver the box to my covered side porch. The day was long, but late in the evening around 7pm my front doorbell rang. By the time I got to the door, the delivery guy had already ran back to his black SUV. and on my front door in the pouring rain was this box....

The entire bottom half of the box was drenched like it had sat in a puddle. If the SUV had not peeled out I probably would have killed them. The range of emotions was real. Somehow, after peeling away the floppy cardboard, the PS5 box inside was merely slightly damp. and the box inside the box was completely dry. My PS5 booted fine, and all was well. No issues since then, but goddamn man. I can't imagine the return process or replacement process would have been speedy or fun. Next launch I will probably opt for a big box store.
I’d be out in the street curb stomping the UPS guy.

Good call. I went on support chat and without even seeing the package photo offered me 10% refund and apologized for the delivery state.
As much as people hate on Amazon their customer service is fantastic.

Must have been shipped by xbot express...

Amirite?

... Seriously though that is nuts. Some delivery people dont bother to do a decent job. I had one delivery where they opened the lobby door and tossed it in. They didnt ring me or come to my back fence

Man I had one of those Madden Xbox One bundles delivered once...and the space on the side of the side of my house has tons of bushes in front of my deck. Its like 8 feet. I just HAPPENED to be walking by that window and I heard a loud thud sound..I look on the deck and look in the yard and I see the Fedex man running to his truck and a huge crumpled box on my deck. He pretty much had to toss it like a softball from the angle he was at. The console and stuff wasn't damaged, but I took the camera footage and uploaded it with a complaint email and Amazon gave me a 50 dollar gift card lol

So try and get you a free gift card OP

I find it strange how in some countries (including USA) you can have your package delivered without your actual signature. You're just asking for trouble in case your package gets damaged or stolen.
In most cases you can opt in or out of signatures. I opt out of signatures, and just a few services require them, especially if buying from overseas.

Thanfully, even though I live in the city and rent a townhouse my neighborhood is safe to leave things at my door.

I'm big for shopping online and rarely have issues with lost, stolen or broken products. I would definitely be pissed if I saw a monstrosity like that waiting at my door though.

The corner of my Series X box is a little smooshed as was the outer box. I still haven't opened it but I'm 99.9% sure that the system will be fine. That was FedEx.

Just in general, FedEx has always been pretty good as far as not damaging stuff. Sometimes they are cunts about requiring a signature but not actually pressing the doorbell.

The carriers that Amazon just straight-up bought out have been fine.

UPS is mostly good, sometimes they toss the packages a little haphazardly it seems rather than take the last couple of steps (I'm on the second floor, outdoor stairs) .

USPS is a fucking joke, packages lost/mangled in transit. And if they survive that they will throw packages as far as they humanly can rather than take one extra step on the staircase. Or they'll decided to smash something that doesn't actually fit into the mailbox rather than dropping it off at the door. And if I actually have to physically go to the local post office for whatever reason it's always a nightmare.

**Edit** Complained to Amazon and they refunded 10% of the order cost which came out to $53

at least the ps5 was still in the packaging... i ordered a pepper grinder and all i got was an empty envelope... (called and they send i new one, in a box)
ordered earphones, and the product was wrong one inside the packaging wafehouse deal (returned it)
other than that no problems...

I imagine these decisions come from big companies' calculations on how much they can lose via damage/stolen packages, against how much they can gain by having as many packages delivered as soon as possible by their limited amount of drivers.
I know it's a very profitable decision for the shipping companies, but it amazes me people are willing to live with it and they don't demand any proof that their package arrived safe and intact.

That box has 2020 vibes all over it. I've personally refrained from trying to get a PS5 online, but I also don't go to many physical retailers right now because trying to avoid crowded places. Sooo, net result is I won't be getting a PS5 for a while...

Amazon seems to have dropped the ball in general with delivery lately. I order a lot of vinyl records and typically they come in a nice box. Lately, they've showed up in a sleeve package with no protection with bent corners. I sent it back for a new one and received it the same exact way. I'm seeing other people complaining about their packaging lately too

It's because Amazon is trying to build out their own delivery system rather than having to rely on (unionized) USPS, UPS drivers. But Amazon pays its drivers shit and has massive attrition, so they have no incentive to do a good job.

Those assholes at amazon packaged my xbox with zero packing material... Well I mean one piece of freaking brown packing paper. There was literally a 5" gap on two sides, and a 3" gap on top. CS rep only wanted to compensate me $5 for the incovenience. Haven't open the box yet, but fuck amazon.

Reposting one of my posts from the Xbox thread.

As I said in the post above, they only wanting to give me five freaking dollars. Ended up talking them into giving me $20, which is still pitiful.
