This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

I don't know but my solution is to use a bland name for the first playthrough e.g. Link in Zelda games and then something ridiculously rude for the subsequent playthroughs. Not much use if one only wants to play the game once admittedly but there you are.

I used to use my real name as a kid for the thrill of seeing it up there on the screen, but as I got older I started to keep the default name. Didn't help when in e.g. Secret of Mana there was no default name and you wanted to have something cool and fantasy-esque, but were limited to six characters. I probably spent hours in total looking at the Mana naming screen, between all three party members...

As a corollary to the earlier pokemon questions (and the perils of trying to find an item on eBay that looks sufficiently genuine to be worth going for): Are there any Third Versions that are better than the first two to enough of an extent to be preferring them over the originals?
Crystal, Emerald and Platinum are all quite a bit better than the original duos.

I see your hours spent in the naming screen and raise you with hours spent in the RE4 case organdising [sic] my ammo, herbs etc so they are in neat little areas by type of item.

There's this PC RTS-ish game I used to play in the mid-late 1990s that involved driving and blowing other vehicles up in a Mad Max post-apocalyptic environment but for the life of me I can't recall the name. Never got to finish it and would love to get a hold of the game again.

Does anyone know what the link for the "I can't remember the name of that game" thread is so I can ask there? Or, does anyone here know what the game I'm talking about is?

Does every Walmart have a sign like that now or did the one here get a ton of returns that necessitated it?

Mine did. Love how they cut out a piece of the box lol. People don't read shit anyways.

It's not the Jagged Alliance series, is it?

So if all my Wii VC games are already on an SD card, can I just put the SD card in my Wii U and perform the transfer process, or do I have to start the process from scratch using a new SD card (place SD card in Wii U, initiate process, put SD card in Wii, transfer content to SD card, put SD card in Wii U, transfer)?

I just discovered WinDirStat and I've been using it to see what's taking up space on my SSD. I noticed that Aerofly FS is currently the biggest space hog at about 20GB, what with all of its scenery. But what surprised me was that the scenery is in the form of ttc files...now, I'm unfamiliar with the ttc extension, but WindDirStat says it is a TrueType Collection font file. So how and why is scenery being stored as a font?

Why do so many people refer to any game with Metroid style exploration as a "Metroidvania" game? I always thought that term only applied to Metroid style exploration with RPG leveling mechanics. Without the RPG leveling mechanics, isn't it just a Metroid style game?

Well, it's a made-up word, so it's hard to say that someone is using it in a 'wrong' fashion, but I think the original intent Jeremy Parish had when using it (which popularised the term, even if it wasn't the original source) was indeed 'just a metroid-style game'; the -vania isn't derived from the fact that the Castlevania Metroid-style games generally added RPG levelling mechanics, it's just derived from the fact that Castlevania is one of the biggest other sources of Metroid-style game.

Is there a way to check a history of Steam purchases? A while ago I bought Dustforce along with its OST. But the OST seems to have disappeared. It's not in the soundtrack folder. I re-found the OST in another folder, but it's in .ogg format. I want to check to see if I actually did buy the game+ost.

I havent touched a PS3 in ages but isn't there a list of all your download somewhere through a link in the PS store? Unless they changed that. Failing that, you could check your email because dont they send confirmation emails that you bought a certain item?

How should I get Joss Whedon and Telltale in a room so we can have Firefly return as a Telltale series of game episodes, with quality akin to their Walking Dead game?

First time hearing of this. Who at nintendo thought that was a good idea?

To be honest, if it weren't $99 and available in the US, I'd get one for my kids.

I actually feel better knowing they COULDN'T get online with it and it's cheap enough to replace if they break it.

Do regular, non-Motion-Plus Wiimotes work with Wii U games? Or do all Wii U games that use Wiimotes require a Motion Plus or Wiimote Plus?

It depends on the game. For example, in Nintendoland only a few of the mini games require Motion Plus. So you can play all the others with normal Wii Remotes.

Ok, cool. For some reason I was under the impression that Wii U games just aren't compatible at all with standard Wiimotes.

Been trying to find this amazing video of Just Cause 2 on Youtube. It's a slowmotion video of Rico running around in a flowery field with the bubble-blaster along with the chorus of Pat Benatar's We Belong playing.

It's absolutely hilarious, but I can't find it ):

In Xenoblade Chronicles, if you're trying to fast travel to another zone, do you really have to go to the zone exit and walk through the zone transition and repeat for as many zones away as your are, or am I seriously overlooking something?

You're overlooking something. It's been a while since I've played, but if you bring up the map your should be able to select an area, then select a specific landmark in whatever area to fast travel to.

EDIT: OK. Bring up the menu (x on CC, - on the remote) and choose the "Area Maps" icon (leftmost icon). That will list every major area you've been to. From there you can select a landmark in whichever area you've chosen.

You're a fucking lifesaver, man. Minus on the CC is the map hotkey, so I completely forgot that there even was a map icon in the menu.

I'm thinking of getting a white super slim PS3 just in case my old 60 GB decides to conk out down the line. It's been over a decade since I've purchased white electronics, do I still need to worry about the plastic yellowing several years from now?

So I changed my xbox live country to us even though I'm not in the us, do I have to buy us prepaid mspoint codes now or will eu codes still work ?

I seem to recall one of the SimCity's getting released for free. Is this true and where is a legit place to download it if so?

Why does Gran Turismo never have Toyota Camry's? They're some of the most popular cars ever.

I liked Ninja Gaiden Sigma, 2, and Sigma 2. Is Ninja Gaiden 3 as bad as everyone says or will I enjoy it anyway? Any chance of a Sigma 3 edition coming to ps3 with the wii u dlc?

I asked this, but I don't think I got an answer.

For characters wearing full-body space armor, like Commander Shepard or Master Chief, how do they take it off to go to the bathroom?

Because it's a car that isn't meant for anything more than going from point a to point b. Then again, the Prius is in Gran Turismo 5 and Forza Motorsport 4, so who knows?

I bought a Quick Charge Kit fir Xbox 360 about a year ago, charged the battery and used it until it ran empty. I charged the battery once more to full capacity and placed the battery and charge kit into storage. When I brought it out today, I plugged in the charger and the green LEDs flashed once. Now the battery doesn't seem to charge. There's no reaction from the charger, no red lights, nothing. Am I boned? Do I just have to buy a new battery pack?

...huh! 2005, i'dve thought i would've heard of this before, it sounded interesting/ambitious. i wonder if it's worth more than he's asking...thanks archnemesis!

Ok guys I need some help. I'm looking for a very old game I used to play when I was a kid. The problem is my memory is extremly foggy so I don't have many elements.

- I played that game during the late 80s, very early 90s
- I played on a Apple computer
- It might have been a black and white game, but not entirely sure
- You could say that it was an adventure game. Top down view, I believe there was an inventory of some sort
- It was a sci fi setting. I guess you were stranded in some kind of alien world
- It was insanely hard. If you came across the wrong kind of enemy too soon, it was almost certain death.

I know it's not much info. I'd be quite impressed if someone could actually help on this.

Can the Wii U do HD out of component? I know component can handle HD signals, but I've heard from some people that component mode is the same as component on the Wii, and is limited to 480p. Confirm or deny, owners?

Alternatively, can it output video through HDMI and sound through RCA like the PS3 can? I have an old-ish HDTV which only has DVI, not HDMI, so it's either that or component for me. I can convert the HDMI signal to DVI but that doesn't carry audio.

Why is it that if I edit a playlist or make a new one, the 360 and PS3 simply wont recognise this and refuse to update to what I've made.

On Windows 7 and using the default streaming thats built in over wifi.

Does anybody know if "XBL Gold" codes are region free? I'm trying to buy this "http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002VBWIP6/?tag=neogaf0e-20" from Amazon due to the discount but I live in the EU so I'm hesitant to order it. Can anybody confirm? I've searched for it on Google and I've only found mixed responses so I'd appreciate anybody who can provide confirmation, thanks.

As far as I know, Gold codes are indeed region free while MS points one are not.

I haven't tried it myself, but Wii U definitively can output 1080p over component. There was even discussion about cable's quality since some people had some loss of quality in 1080p compared to 1080i.

That being said, if you want me to try, send me a PM, I can do it tomorrow evening.

As far as I know, not yet at least. Many people hope for a new firmware to correct this, but I don't think it has been adressed yet.

That being said, you can either get the RCA sound out of most TVs, or you can use a HDMI video/audio splitter. Since there's no HDCP, any video/audio splitter should work fine.
