This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

My backlog's getting pretty big so I think it's time to drop some games.

Is Dragon Age Origins Awakening worth playing? I have the Ultimate Edition so I already own it, but I'm considering skipping it and all other DLCs so I can just move on to DA2.

Also, so what's the difficulty like in Dead Space 2? Thinking of playing it on the easiest setting, since I don't think its gunplay is what I really care about. Not sure if that'll suck the tension out of the game though.

AFAIK, DA:O is the superior game, DAII is being poorly considered within the players and the press. You should play the first one imho.

I don't know about DS2, sorry.

Yeah, I played DA:O and liked it enough. I got DA2 for cheap so I'll probably give it a shot, but it's Awakening I'm not sure about. (If it's worth my time.)

Relatively new member but spent a decent time lurking before approval, can someone clean up a couple of things that have been bugging me?

What is the derviation of the 'please understand' for anything Nnintendo related?

And where the hell did 'based' come from in all these 'thankyou based ......' comments?

Much appreciated.

What is the derviation of the 'please understand' for anything Nnintendo related?
It comes from a quote by the president of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata.

"Please understand, I am not saying that technology is unimportant. I understand that technology is important. But if we are just focusing on technology and investing in an IT manufacturing plant to come up with higher performance processing [chips], we will not succeed."
And where the hell did 'based' come from in all these 'thankyou based ......' comments?
"Based God

In an interview with Complex, Lil’ B was asked what “based” meant.

“Based means being yourself. Not being scared of what people think about you. Not being afraid to do what you wanna do. Being positive. When I was younger, based was a negative term that meant like dopehead, or basehead. People used to make fun of me. They was like, ‘You’re based.’ They’d use it as a negative. And what I did was turn that negative into a positive. I started embracing it like, ‘Yeah, I’m based.’ I made it mine. I embedded it in my head. Based is positive.” (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=based+god)

Yeah, Awakening has a pretty good plot and the payoff at the end is leagues better than anything in DA2. You get to load your character from 1 (if you have it), but if you don't. You get all these points at max level to plug into whatever. The expansion gets pretty good half way through. I have some real bias friends who didn't like DAO at all, yet were huge D&D RPG whatever. Its stupid their complaints. But DAA and DAO are really good titles. Very rich in terms of content. The leveling up system takes some time. But I really liked it. Only play it on PC though. I couldn't stand even looking at the console versions.

DS2 I finished on my first playthrough. Its more shooter difficulty than the first. I'd say medium would be just fine. Medium mode you may have a few deaths (considering you're talking about easy mode). Just because you can screw up a reload pattern or get cornered in various scenarios.

anybody know where i can download the metal gear solid v phantom pain trailer from gdc in a glorious quality

thanks

edit: i know i could probably get it somewhere like gametrailers, but don't wanna have to sign up thanks

The genre is Real-Time Tactics, though they might incorrectly (IMO) be called Real-Time Strategy. Real-time because it's not turn based, and tactics because you only control one type of unit, as far as I can see, where as strategy is more about having multiple units, buildings and resources.

As Jucksalbe said Mushroom Wars on PSN is the same type of game, it is now also available on iOS.

I'm at my wits' end here with this damn PS3 transfer process. I've spent the last two days trying to get my PS3 Phat to my new PS3 slim and it's the biggest pain in the ass. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've tried the horrid Data Transfer Utility (with an Ethernet cord) but it always gets to about 60% and then gives me an ERROR message. So then I tried the Backup and transfer and all it transfers is my saves/videos/pictures (about 1gig)... but it took 4 hours to do and said it transferred 110gb's. What?!!?!

I have a ton of games and data I want transferred, the locked saves I have are on the PS+ cloud so that's not a big deal. But I just want this over with and I dont want to redownload every game I have...

Don't know about the genres and don't really know the games you're showing, but Mushroom Wars on PSN seems to be more of the same.

Well thanks alot!
This is the kind of games i'm looking for :)

Just based on appearance it looks like tower defense?

Nope not a tower defense, These games are intense, you start with small number of soldiers and when you move them to another tower you get more soldiers because every tower you take over add more soldiers.

i thought some how it is different than other real time strategy, You cant build and no Resourcesز

Try not to backup video files.
Also, I am not sure if it's possible to transfer Game Data Files (like unique game profile info).

Also, PixelJunk Monsters (Deluxe)
51eaEPDC6IL._SX385_.jpg

PixelJunk Monsters is a tower defence, not the same type of game. The type of game they are after is like a simplified real-time territory grab. You have a set number of units that must control and expand territory, while an opposing team does the same.

does anyone have any experience with the Silent Hill HD collection on ps3, post patch? i know the original release was a train wreck, but according to reviews on amazon the patch fixed the worst problems.

also, any advice for someone playing through the series for the first time?

If you have played the series I would try Shattered Memories. I didn't get into SH until I played that (on my PSP no less). Still haven't tried the HD collection but 2 and 3 as PS2 games... It can't get worse right?

I'm enjoying the Trails HD games on the PS3, and would like to get Zero for the Vita. However, are there any rumors about about an Ao Vita port as well?

Can you add memory to the Wii U? I think 8gb is fine for now, but I'll go with the 32gb one if you can't.

And it's fully bc right? Cause I never played galaxy 2

Thanks

Does anyone know a good way to prevent mice from having paint peel off at the fingers? I've had this issue with my last two mice and it's really annoying, especially on my current Steelseries Black Ops II mouse -- I'm not a BO2 nut, but it was $20.
At first I thought I had something spill on the mouse and dry, so I tried to pick it off and it made it much worse >:(.

Is it worth it to buy the later versions of the PS3 console? I am using the 60GIG BC launch unit (with 500 gig HD) and while it still works really great it does heat up my room like crazy because it puts out so much heat. Which is fine in the winter but shitty in the summer. It's almost like a second heater in your room.

Are those slim version a lot better at that? And are they way more silent? I have no problems with the disc spin noises because I only play DD games I get from PS+ nowadays but the fans do tend to make lots of noise after a while.

I guess that they will drop price again soon so that's why I might be tempted if it's worth it. I don't really use the BC on it.

While I can understand suspension of belief, the ending of Resident Evil 3 ending got me wondering whether or not the US President even has clearance to actually nuke an American town/city/populace.

Why are there pretty much no fighting game characters based off of Chuck Norris? It's a missed opportunity IMO.

Well for one thing, most Japanese devs have prob. never heard of Chuck Norris or know of his memetic status.

After reading the thread about asking what would happen to GFWL games and getting around to organizing some computer/online records, I was wondering if there was some way to see the CD-key of games that use GFWL?

I bought Arkham Asylum through GFWL ages ago before I realised how awful GFWL was and I'm not quite sure where I would get the CD key from. The actual application gets caught up trying to access the GFWL store and I don't see anything about it on the webpage. In the off chance that WB converts GFWL keys to Steam keys, I'd like to have it for the future.

Pure speculation, since I can't find anything via searching, but I'd think that after having had the city quarantined for a few days, there would be ample evidence that it was beyond the control of anyone to simply clean the place up and start over. To prevent the spread of the virus and to stop the problem in it's tracks, a nuke would solve everything quite handily and with a minimum of collateral damage. And while in real life the President alone probably doesn't have that power, it would likely be passed through approval pretty quickly.

Of course, I always thought it was kind of a tip of the hat to the ending from Return of the Living Dead.

Can someone explain to me how the hell this worked:

segamegacd32x.jpg

I never owned it but was intrigued by the concept. Was there some kind of switch to decide what system you were going to use? Or was it something you did within the OS?

Additionally and theoretically, do you suppose 32x and Sega CD would have done better if they were standalone consoles that didn't need the Genesis?

I had one of those! I remember playing Star Wars Arcade on it .. which I think was the only game I ever owned for it.

Not sure how it worked but didn't Nintendo 64 games have something like that too except it was attached with the cartridge? It was like some kind of memory/ram booster or something crazy like that? I think I remember Perfect Dark 64 having it.

I might be able to buy a MonHun3 3DS XL bundle real cheap. Is the bundled and preloaded game tied to hardware or account? I obviously want to get rid of previous owner's account also.

This is not especially stupid, but it doesn't really deserve its own thread either.

Where's the cheapest place to grab US PS+ sub? Bearing in mind that I'm in the UK, so it pretty much has to be online...

My stupid question: Does everyone suck at driving Halo vehicles or is it just me? The Ghost being an exception, I'm really good at it. Warthog I can manage but the Banshee is a nightmare

Does House of the Dead: Overkill Wii have Club Nintendo points?

My copy did not have CN points

a couple questions

is dead rising 2 worth playing? does the time limit really suck? I have no idea what this game is about, but I love zombies. Can i replay sections if I fail to complete them within the time limits or whatever?

is yoshi's island ds playable on the 3ds? I know some dual screen ds games look weird on the 3ds because of the different sized screens, but I want to get my fiance something to play, and she loves yoshi/baby mario.

There is still a time limit like in dead rising 1, however you now have 3 save slots instead of 1 so if you rotate which slot you save in you can go back and redo sections if you mess up. That is sort of antithetical to how the game is 'meant' to be played but the option is there. The important thing to understand is that your time limit is for the whole case you are on, not just the specific mission. If you wait til the last minute to do mission 2-1 you are NOT going to be able to finish 2-2, 2-3, etc on time. The bosses are a pain but overall I don't think the game is too hard or unfair.

Hey, I have a question.

I have Animal Crossing New Leaf on 3DS. My girlfriend fell in love with the game. If I give her my physical copy of the game, and then download a copy on the eshop for myself, can I keep my save or do I have to start over?

I think I've seen a save transfer tool available on the eShop. It might be exactly for situations like this!
