This thread is for stupid GAMING questions that don't deserve their own thread

The market for B-tier first-person shooters is really cramped and you can't expect to them to be popular. A large portion of The Call of Duty crowd are satisfied with only playing one game and the same year you also had Aliens vs. Predator, Army of Two: The 40th Day, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Bioshock 2, Blacklight: Tango Down, Borderlands, Brink, Call of Duty: Black Ops, GoldenEye 007, Halo Reach, MAG, Medal of Honor, Metro 2033, NecroVisioN: Lost Company, Operation Wolfsburg, Perfect Dark, Quake Live, Red Steel 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Call of Pripyat, Sniper: Ghost Warrior, Terror Attack: Project Fateh, Terrorist Takedown 3, and UberStrike.

Good lord, there were that man shooters that year? Wow.

I'm sure I forgot half of them. Personally I love playing the occasional B-tier shooter, but I'm not willing to pay much for them. $60 is about $55 too much for me, but I'll happily pick up games like Clive Barker's Jericho, F.E.A.R. and Far Cry once they have dropped a bit in price. Singularity is on my Steam wishlist and hopefully it will be cheap enough in this year's summer sale.

Bitch ass Brink.

Die Brink, die

What proxy site would you guys recommend to buy stuff from Yahoo Auction Japan? I did a little search and found "Mail Order Japan". Are they any good? Any alternatives?

This is might sound a little weird but...

I got the NieR soundtrack and just ripped it to my computer, but I'm a bit obsessive about organizing my music library with the proper tags and whatnot. For NieR, would I put the artist as Monaco? Or Keiichi Okabe (which is who Wikipedia says its by)? From what I understand, Okabe is basically a part of the Monaco studio? I think? Just wondering which one is the proper artist tag.

What exactly is bloom supposed to accomplish?
"Bloom is a computer graphics effect used in video games, demos and high dynamic range rendering (HDR) to reproduce an imaging artifact of real-world cameras. The effect produces fringes (or feathers) of light around very bright objects in an image, obscuring fine details. Basically, if an object has a light behind it, the light will look more realistic and will somewhat overlap the front of the object from the 3rd person perspective."

It looks nice when used in moderation.

Hahaha, oh shit! That's heaps! Still, that year I only bought...

Aliens vs. Predator, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Halo Reach, MAG, Perfect Dark.

Although I picked up Metro 2033 for $10NZD/$6.50USD on PC the following year and Medal of Honor a few weeks ago on PS3 in a sale.

Onto what you were replying to though, is Singularity worth picking up for cheap? Is it an enjoyable game or more a case of the odd great section filled with forgettable areas? What is the setting of the game?

Is Lost Odyssey out of print? I've been meaning to pick up a decently cheap copy to scratch that traditional JRPG itch of mine, but I can't seem to find any new copies on Google, just used :/

in super mario world, was the trick to fly all across a whole level with the cape purposely put into the game, or was it just an exploit?

I have it listed under Keiichi Okabe, and learned to live with it.

So I bought a GBA SP (with the good backlight) used for $25. At first, it kept turning off if I tapped the back. After taking the battery out and doing some very slight adjustments, that issue has been solved. Now it works great, except the battery seems to only last about 3-4 hours instead of the original 7-10. I want to get a new battery pack for it, but I don't know where to buy it from or what the best one to get is. I can get one from eBay for $5 shipped, but I don't think the quality would be all that amazing.

Is there a place I can buy (good) GBA SP batteries from that ships to Canada for a reasonable price? If I should just eBay it, what battery make/model in particular would people recommend?

Can anyone give me some tips on how to get used to oc controls for games like BF3? I'm having a hard time transitioning from a 360 controller. Love how awesome it runs though.

given that the music in the game is composed by several members of monaca (under direction of keiichi okabe) the technically correct tag would be monaca.

I loved Bad Company 2, but I dislike Battlefield 3.

The maps are not nearly as interesting. The UI has to be the worst I've ever seen in a shooter. The bright lights make it seem like a crappy Michael Bay film all game. The flashlight should be omitted, not changed.

Wake Island in B3 was a disappointment. It's a map that's popular because it's shaped as a "U". Now expand that U to where it's so big, that even if you're in the same spot on the "U" as an enemy player, it will still be hard to find each other. The map is too large to even play like Wake Island in previous Battlefield games.

The classes make no since, especially the combination of an Assault and Medic class, making the Assault too powerful. The campaign sucked as usual, but who cares about that. The destruction in that game is the worst out of the last three games with destruction.

Seriously though, DICE highly advertised when B3 was announced that the destruction will be in the best series and made it a huge selling point. It was worst than BC1. Yeah, you can blow up your occasional wall and fences, but that's basically how far it goes. I've never played a B3 game to where destruction became an important factor because of the severe lack of it. DICE also stated later after release they did this on purpose. Then why the hell did they advertise otherwise?

Basically, Battlefield 2 > Battlefield BC2 > Battlefield 3.

Opinions? Thoughts?

How well do the Spider-man games run on PC?

I'm mostly looking at Web of Shadows, Ultimate Spider-man, and Spider-man 3. Also do any of these work with the 360 controller?

The fucking awful fucking American fucking dialogue fucking is fucking awful. That and the way all sound channels but one cut out at times. The M-COM was destroyed? I never even knew it was armed.

Does the Wii save Gamecube save files onto SD cards/internal storage or does it support GC memory cards?

It supports GC memory cards and can only save GC data on those I believe.

If I'm not mistaken there was a Wii redesign which removed the GC memory card slots so if you are getting one now and planning to use them, make sure you get the "old" model.

Edit: Beat Ten

Not trying to start anything here, I just want honest opinions.

What's better for games that are JUST games, iOS or 3DS? I played some Cave shooters recently and forgot how much I miss games that just drop me right into the action and value gameplay over story, setting, music, 'cinematic flare' etc, so I'm trying to find that again.

Basically, which one's closer to the 80s-90s arcade experience?

I asked ages ago about Yakuza 1, now to ask a very similar question about Yakuza 2:

Worthwhile PAL port, or should I seek out an NTSC version?

Also, does Yakuza 2 allow for the import of save data from the first game, and if it does, does it work going PAL Y1 -> NTSC Y2 or vice-versa?

I played the PAL version and I have no complaints about the performance. Apparently, if you have save data from Yakuza it will allow you to start Yakuza 2 with a collection of goodies in your item storage box, none of which you can acquire in any other way.

Edit: I did play it on a modded PS2 with a 60 Hz mode, IIRC. It's possible that it performs worse on a regular PS2.

Do save files on the PS3 carry over from the physical version of a game to the digital (PSN) version? I'm thinking of double-dipping on Alice Madness Returns, but I want to make sure my save file keeps.

If my PS2 only reads discs when I have something like a stack of game/DVD cases on the top of the disk tray, should I get a new one?

Insert a disc, then power down your console (hold the power button until the green light turns red). Turn your console so the disc drive is upside-down (so that the disc would fall out if the drive were open). Power on your console, wait for the disc to start, and right your console.

There is some weird error with old PS2 lasers having trouble finding the beginning of a disc. My friend discovered starting the console while it is upside-down corrects this.

Hahaha. I always thought it was a tire, checkered like a typical taxi, with angry teeth.

Thats certainly what it looks like but it has that mystero-gap at the front like its a dentata neckbrace or something.

I suppose its possible its just supposed to be a 'C' having thought about it some more, maybe at one point the whole title was spelt out in snarly checker writing.

I think those teeth are supposed to be rope/string and on one end, it's coming out of a hole that makes it look like a drawstring. That doesn't really help though because there's no way that's a money bag.

I assume it's both a mouth *and* a wheel. The gap's necessary to fit the structure of the mouth, but the shape is intended to evoke a wheel.

It's a bit like Miss Saigon's cantonese character / face / helicopter.

If I download a digital version of a game that I scored trophies/cheevs for while playing the hard copy, will they be affected at all? What about my saves?

On all the platforms I developed on, it was the case that if the game had the same *game ID*, everything was transitional between digital/disc. I assume that's still the case.
