Why is it that most people think they look good when they look at themselves in the mirror, but think they look awful in pictures? I mentioned this the other day and a bunch of people agreed with me.

Lighting probably. Flash makes everyone look silly.

I thought I read something about how people try to see themselves in their best angle, even without realizing it.
 
How come in most paperback books, some of the text is bolder on some pages then others. Does it bleed? Is it a fresh batch of ink going in?

My friend and I were talking about this earlier and we had no idea.

Have any of you taken first aid training? I got certified in the summer - it's valid for 3 years but I've already forgotten everything. Is this normal?

Because Japanese CDs cost about $25- $30 US. I'd guess it's added incentive that the label negotiates to get people to buy it.

There are a couple of factors. Lighting and flash as mentioned above, but a flash can be made to look better with a flash diffuser or by changing the "Flash exposure compensation" setting on your camera. Also, there is distortion caused by the curved shape of the lens. You can change this however, if you have a zoom lens. If you stand far away and zoom in on someone before you take the picture, it will approximate the linear reflection of a mirror.

Probably because the mind is not easily tamed. As interesting things could happen so could the horrors and fears lurking in the back of one's mind. Suppose it depends on how well you can control your thoughts.
 
So I am officially two days from being on gaf for a year and I am still going to be a junior.
Is it possibly that I can just get on my knees for a couple of mods to speed this process up other than replying 200 godforsaken times?

Is it strange to date someone in college that is in another year? I know it's such a small age difference, but it always seems like there's a divide between years.

They're not deep at all. Put your thumb next to your Adam's apple and press in. Should be easy enough to find.

What do the "neutral" green things signify next to your name? How do people get to the "On thin ice" and "Start looking for proxies" stage? Is it people who get regularly temp banned or something? I don't get it.

It's a 'reputation system' but it's almost never used. Basically mods can dock points (or technically add them), so some people have a red reputation. I guess it's to denote that someone is a troublemaker, which should be taken into account if they're being considered for a ban.

at the beginning of the song Bounce, N.O.R.E says something. it sounds like boogaloo boogaloo and that doesn't make sense. can anyone clear this up once and for all? i've searched far and wide all around the internet and there seem to be no lyrics for this song.

In Street fighter II, some of the fighters scream something when doing a move. For example, Chun Li, when she starts doing her helicopter legs thingy, or Ryu when he shoots fireballs. But are those actual words they spout, or just rambling?

Why do people give Michael Bay so much shit for his movies? This is why I like him:

His movies are entertaining

His movies explore interesting situations (end of the world? a world where people are farmed for organs? MIND IMPLODED!)

Touching (the "world stops to witness the end" scene in Armageddon sent chills up my spine, Ben Affleck's return to see his best friend and his love together made everyone in the theater gasp)

Explosions that make sense (he gets shit for adding random explosions, from what I can tell, all his explosions make sense)

He revived an anime into a non-cheesy, true-to-original-material, modern, "Americanized" version!

Cool effects

Are his movies going to challenge Citizen Kane's throne? No, but they're entertaining, they're over the top (not in a Transporter or Cranked way) and still "make sense," and they're rewatchable.

How can I get my IRS PIN number? My HDD crashed and I lost my previous years' returns (and I don't have paper copies of anything). I've been calling the IRS help-line for two weeks now, and after navigating through 5 minutes of "press 4 for x, press 2 for y," I always end up at a prerecorded "We're sorry. Due to extremely high call volume, we're unable to take your call on this topic." And then it hangs up on me. I've tried every day for two weeks; it's getting pretty frustrating.
