if i took yolks out of the eggs does that make them significantly healthier to eat?

No, the yolk is the most nutritious part of the egg. And dietary cholesterol has little to no impact on blood cholesterol.

The only benefit from eating egg whites over whole eggs is that the egg whites are less calorie dense.

hey I've been taxing my video card which reommends at least a 300w power supply with a 275w power supply for some time and now I smell burning shoe. I really wish I'd installed a new power supply, but I didn't. Anyway, does burning video card smell like shoes or is my house on fire? thanks

:lol I was in a similar situation as you once, but I hadn't gotten the burning smell. Is the shoe smell you mentioned a kind of .. leathery/aerosol-ish scent? Any kind of electrical burn smell like that is bad; it's a pretty identifiable smell once you know it.

What happened to me was my PC kept shutting off as I kept dipping over the amount of available wattage. Hopefully you didn't short out or something. Does everything seem to work fine right now? What does it look like on the inside?

oh! yes! it's such an aerosol smell. ahh hell it probably is the video card because I'm not bathed in flames currently. double triple damned it all, why don't I replace this infernal power supply.

I refuse to look at the inside. if it will continue to play the games I ask it to, then it's a-oh-k. I have a theory that the low wattage is causing the card to work harder than intended *disclaimer* I'm not even half a scientist

Part of me wants to post this as a thread in Gaming but I'll see if I get the answer here first:

How do patches work on the current-gen (X360/PS3/Wii?) consoles? On the PC, patches work by overwriting files on the disk, usually including the main .exe. But console games aren't installed (usually), they're read straight off the disc. So how can you download an updated executable or other files and have the game know to use them?

I'd guess that the game checks if the system has updated files for it each time before running, and if so loads those files.

But I wouldn't really know.

Okay, language-GAF:

This might be a stupid question, but is the word "worse" being used correctly in this following sentence:

"Stupid threads are worst than stupid posts".

Because to me that just sounds so bad and I'm pretty sure it's wrong and that it should just be "worse", but I see it all the time here on GAF.

not positive, but I believe worse/worst has become a bit of a running gag like Capcom/Konami...

Absolutely not. Then again, fighting for correct grammar, spelling and punctuation usage on GAF is one of history's great losing battles.

Alright. I realize a lot of people posting on forums can't spell for shit, but english isn't my first language so I was curious if it was a difference in UK/US english or simply that I've been wrong on that one.

I mean, the classic mistake on this board seems to be confusing your/you're--which I want to believe is purely done by mistake rather than lack of knowledge--but in this case it just confuses me somewhat since it sounds so wrong, yet I see it being spelled like that a lot.

That's because there is no punishment on the internet for being a terrible speller. It should be "worse" not "worst."

Personal biggest pet peeve regarding spelling on message boards - people using "of" when they're actually looking for a contraction of "have," for instance, typing "would've" as "would of."

So the hype of the new pokemon games got me to want to break out my old firered/ruby to play on the ds but lo and behold the games are lost/stolen/borrowed without asking/etc. So looking to buy some more but not at the 29.99 price gamestop wants. I do a little google search and I discover this http://www.games-stock.com/catalog/pokemon-firered-p-829.html. Yea awesome paypal approved and stuff and I can always dispute if it turns out to be phony, then a quick glance around the site I notice that it also sells those multiple games on one ds card. Yea big sign of cheap rom dumps, now I am at a lost.

On one hand they offer cheap hard to find ds/gba games on the other they could be rom dumps and I rather just pay more for the licensed games some other way. So my question is have anyone ever used this site? And if so were they legit or just rom dumps? Will I have better success in the buy/sell/trade thread for these games?

I believe this should answer your question from their 'Shipping & Returns' Section:
Our standard method of delivery is via Registered Air Mail Service from Thailand, which allows 10-14 working days delivery period. From the shipping rate table below you can see that the more items you order the more you can save on your shipping cost. Also, don't forget that when you order for more than US$100 you will get your shipping completely free!!
Yeah, I'd avoid it.

Got a hand-me-down CPU a couple weeks ago. I want some PC games but don't know what I can run. Help please?

Here are my computer's vitals:
Processor: 1.8 Ghz - AMD Athlon 64 2800
Graphics Card: 128 MB - Radion 8500 DDR, AGP, dual monitor out
Memory: 1 GB - DDR PC2700 - Kingston KVR333X64C25/1G

Games I'm interested in:
Railroad Tycoon (and other tycoon games, recs appreciated)
Command & Conquer (I had Generals on my last CPU)
Sim City (is this even still around?)
CIV IV (squeaked this out on my last CPU)

I'm looking for medieval or modern strategy, business-building (tycoon), and maybe some fantasy RPG stuff. No FPS or online-only games please. I realize that I'll be looking at some older games, but have no idea where to start. All recs and help appreciated.

Sid Meier's Pirates (the remake)
Rollercoaster Tycoon 3
Diablo 3

Gayming age and Gay-gaf:

Do you all wear the gay V neck? Not the regular one, but the one that plunges really low? Or is that just a stereotype?

No offense, just that I always see gay people and the Gay V neck.

There's that thing about rule 34 of the internet or something, right? Like... there's someone who finds everything sexy or whatever?

What are the first 33 rules?

Military - AGE

When someone designs a new vehicle (sea, land or air) they take into account the look or just the function? a Mix? The look is just the result of the function?

By function I mean, aerodynamics, physics, weight, fuel capacity/efficiency, ammo, etc.

I'm asking this because almost every military vehicle looks badass

If I made a hole on the planet from one side to another and then tossed a coin, what would happen, considering the coin woulnd't touch the walls of the hole?

Would it be standing there right in the middle hovering? Would it come right off the other side?

I have wondered this for years!

Haha, I've wondered the same thing except if I jump into a hole that goes through the Earth, will I come out the other side feet first? I'm of course ignoring the fact that I would probably get burned up as I get closer to the core.

Does the "Z" at the end of Dragonball Z actually mean anything? Or is it just some random letter they decided to add?
What does the Z in DragonBall Z stand for?

The "Z" in Dragonball Z is just used to differentiate between the Dragonball and the Dragonball Z Series. It does not have any meaning beyond that it is the last letter of the english alphabet and the beginning of the last letter in the Japanese alphabet. Akira just wanted to
1) show a difference between this series and Dragonball, and
2) provide a sense of closure - being that he meant for Dragonball Z to be the last of the series.

I have a surfboard that some guy on Craigslist kept pestering me about.

It's a Santa Cruz 6' Freeline, looks pretty old. Seems hollow.

Worth anything?

Yay or nay on buying a refurbished iPod?

I would say go for it since the savings are there. I have a refurbed mp3 player myself.

Why does the taker in gay (male) porn hold his penis really tight? It makes no sense. Is this common in gay porn? (I haven't seen a lot of gay (male) porn, sorry.)

Why do birds heads bob forward and back when they walk? And do all birds do this? And any other types of animal?

Apologies for the sheer stupidity of these questions but I've just been watching pigeons out of my window in work and they look weird when they walk around.

Was this "studio" porn you saw? I've honestly never seen a guy do it in any of the amateur stuff I watch. Maybe they're trying to prolong things before, uh, unloading.

This head motion looks silly, and it may look like random head waving, but it's not. If you look closely, or take videos and watch them in slow motion, you will see the head actually stays in one place while the body walks past it. It then is jerked forward and put in front of the body and the body walks past it again.

What this behavior does is keep the head still and in one spot as long as possible. By keeping the head still, the bird gets a better look at the world and is able to see things more clearly. It can focus on one spot for a longer period of time.

This tactic is especially useful for seeing motion. Birds are very interested in moving things: small moving objects to catch and eat (such as insects), and large moving objects that might be dangerous and need to be avoided (such as hawks). Detecting movement while you are moving is hard; the best way to do it is to stand still. The head bobbing of birds allows them to detect movement while they are moving too.

Why don't other animals move their heads like this? Have you tried it? Although you, too, can look silly while you walk, your neck just isn't long enough to keep your head still for long enough to make a difference. Birds, though, have surprisingly long necks. Even birds that look like they have no necks - such as doves, chickadees, or quail -- actually have long necks. Much of a bird's neck is coiled in an S-shaped curve hidden by the neck feathers. They can extend their necks out pretty far when they want to. It is this long, flexible neck that allows birds to bob their heads effectively when they walk.

If it fell straight down and never touched the sides eventually it would stop in the middle due to loss of energy from air resistance.

What exactly does "diminishing returns" mean? Does it mean (in the case of PD0) that the game was so underwheliming it "came back worse than expected" or is it in hindsight to bombing sales?

I always thought it was the first but someone told me the other one yesterday...

I'd like to know if people with light-colored hair feels cooler under a bright summer sun? I have black hair and the hair get's pretty hot after a while.

Basically, the more you have, the amount of additional value decreases per unit.

Diminishing Returns means the extra of something (money/effort/whatever), doesn't equate to the same amount of reward.

An example, you spend 80 million dollars building a game and it's only 10% better than it would be for 40 million.

EDIT: Beaten, and beaten better, for shame.
