Can someone recommend a good free pic hosting site? Had a photobucket one and the bandwidth usage got ganked extremely quickly. Not even sure how that works...

For stuff I'm just randomly posting on the boards I use tinypic.

For personal collection type of stuff I use picasa.

Hey gaf quick Q. If i send something out to the west coast super early tomorrow morning via USPS First Class Mail, is there any chance of it getting there by Monday?

Do you live on the west coast?

If yes: Then no.
If no: Then no.

In order for it to be delivered on Monday, it would need to be in their post office's hands on Saturday.

I'm on disc 3 of the Season 3 bluray set of Battlestar Galactica, on a new Panasonic plasma.

I'm getting intermittent and brief, but subtle flashes of brightness every 1-2 seconds or so, in a regular rhythm. It's much more obvious in darker scenes, and practically unnoticeable or completely absent in other scenes.

Any ideas?

So...when you're making a BM, why can't you smell your own fumes? If you come back a few minutes later you can smell it. Also, why can't you smell the cigarette you are smoking? It blows my mind.

One more dumb question: what do rabbits eat, other than carrots? Theres one out in my yard, I threw him some bread, hope he likes it...would he eat cat food?

Err, rabbits are herbivores. You can give him some leafy vegetables or rabbit pellets.

This question is INCREDIBLY stupid, but why does it take far more graphical horsepower to run the same PC game than it does to run it on a 360, which is significantly less powerful?

Because instead of limiting the game's settings based on the hardware (i.e. 360), the PC allows for more graphically intense settings.

Any clues what this bug is? Found in a basement at my friend's place, and none of us had seen it before. Have a short iphone vid too, just figuring out where to upload it. It was 1cm in size, tops.

I realize the photo quality is shit. =/

Hmmmm .. looks like a cross between a vinegaroon and a wattle hopper. I have no idea what it is though and I sure as hell wouldn't want to find it anywhere near me.

Just got a PS3 so now i can watch blu-ray films but i've only got a 32" TV and it's not 1080P...is it worth getting blu ray films? My LOVEFiLM list has 20 odd DVD on there at the mo is it worth switching them over to blu ray?

The reason why you get the same looking game on the PC and the 360 despite the PC's extra power is because when developers write for the 360 they can optimize their code to one specific hardware configuration. But when you make the game for PCs you have to take into account a huge number of different possible hardware configurations. There are many different CPUs and all kinds of graphics cards out the there and they all have to work with your game.

Is there an image cap for posts? I'm kind of planning an obscenely large megathread and would like to know the limitations of a single post.

You might as well future-proof yourself. Are you really going to hang on to that 32" forever?

So if theoretically they decided to create a game for literally one hardware configuration it would run amazingly?

How do gun shops in America prevent their customers from buying a gun and ammunition and then just robbing the place?

Gun shop owners are dangerous rednecks who are armed to the teeth. If you're dumb enough to try and rob one, you get what's coming to you.
Unless you're a Terminator.

:lol I used to date somebody who worked for her dad's gun shop. He would daydream about some idiot trying to come in to steal from him. It would be the highlite of his year, easily. He tells stories about the time he robbed some guy who tried to mug him, took the guy's wallet from him. Happened years ago and he gets this creepy smile when describing it.

I'm just saying. Don't mess with somebody who owns a gun shop.

Tranny surprise?

Edit: Nevermind, I just realised the "He" was the dad. I thought you were still talking about your ex. :P

My hard drive can't seem to make up its mind as to how much free space it has. Sometimes the figure it gives me when I check it on startup is as much as 7-8GB different than it was when I checked the day before, despite me not really doing anything to justify this change. Thing is, none of my files seem to be missing or otherwise affected by this. Should I be worried?

If it's any help, I currently have about 40GB free on a 295GB (well, 320GB) HD. Also, I use Vista.

Firefox quirk:

So I was just about to visit a website that starts with b, and I usually get there by typing b in the url bar, hitting down arrow and pressing enter.

Well this time I did it too quickly and simply hit enter after b.

NSFW, but I don't want to ruin the surprise (it's not anything super hardcore/disgusting).

Why does firefox redirect me there? Definitely not where I was trying to go lol. What if a kid did this?

Err... aren't those auto-filled addresses based on users' bookmarks ?

I just did that and it took me to Google.

Hmm, well it led me to 4chan's /b/ board, and i'm pretty sure I don't have 4chan bookmarked. I asked my roommates to try as well and both had the same result. Perhaps it's my bookmarks to some anime sites and jp arcade blazblue matches then lol. Or our ISP? odd.

I dunno, but the same thing happened for me, and I've never visited that site before. Weird.

You can do that with lots of keywords. Clear your history out and type neogaf, it brings you here. l takes you to the wikipedia for L. etc

Hmm, typing b or any letter and hitting enter doesn't do anything for me. It suggests my bookmarks in the drop down, but if I don't select anything and hit enter, I have to hit enter a few times before it takes me to the "problem loading page."

I believe you have to set it to enable reaching a search engine from the address bar.

Ah...I don't think I would want to do that. That makes sense for what's happening to others though, since if you search 'b' in google, the first hit is 4chan.

PC question. My friend's family PC broke, and I googled around a bit to learn that it was either a blown power supply or a dead motherboard. So they took it to some repair guy, and he fixed it, but he said he "fixed" the power supply, and that he didn't replace it. How is this done? I've never heard of such a thing.

Well they just looked at your ID when they sold you the gun so that would be pretty stupid.

Yeah, theoretically. Also keep in mind that many 360 developers have been working on the same piece of hardware for about 5 years now and they likely know all the intricacies and can pull out all their tricks to make their game run smoothly now.

I've never heard of anybody "fixing" a power supply. They are usually cheap enough that it's easier just to replace them.

That's what I thought too. But he only charged them $50 and the power supplies I shopped for online were $70-125ish for that PC. Maybe he just had one laying around or something?

Some people shift a lot in their sleep, but you'd have to be pretty out of it to not remember such a thing. Still, it might mean nothing.

generally I've noticed that having at least a Geforce 8600 card and a decent Core 2 Duo enables you to run games at roughly the same resolution and quality level as a PS3 or 360. However most really high-end PCs are limited to what the developers created for the PS3 and/or 360 in terms of polygon count and textures, so they're not being pushed much at all unless you crank all the settings and run them at 1920 x 1080 or higher.

Why is the Megan Mullally butter commercial more embarrassing to watch than something painfully embarassing actually happening to you?

I would be interested if someone can point where is the thread\post about game developing, programming, etc where someone did a single post with really good links referred to books, websites, etc. Such an amazing reference for all of us who are interested in programming.

I wanted to save it into my favorites, but I didnt, and now is impossible to me to find it out.

I've been looking to buy an external hard drive, the problem i've been running into while looking up the best rated ones on Amazon is that when I read the reviews I see a bunch of great ones, then read about alot of peoples hard drive's malfunctioning after a short while or so, the impression I got was that it happened alot and the customer support for them wasn't that great either. I also wondered if maybe the reason was that alot of these people move their hard drives around alot, I wouldn't be doing that, mines would pretty much just stay in a drawer until I needed it. So can anyone recommend a really good one for about $80? Space isn't THAT much of a concern as long as it's at least 320 GB.

I was doing some ordinary web-browsing, checking the usual sites (neogaf, facebook, etc.) and I never go to any suspicious or dangerous sites. However, while browsing tonight, AVG informed me of a thread titled "Virus Identified Exploit.PDF". I tried searching google for an answer, but nothing yielded anything satisfactory. I tried to see if it came up in the avg database, and nothing. So, I sent it to the virus vault. However, upon checking the vault, I noticed it was not there. I checked the location disclosed in the report, but it doesn't appear to be there. Am I just being neurotic, or should I be worried?

One more thing, I ran a complete computer scan twice with AVG which yielded nothing besides common cookies.

I know very little about computers but maybe this?

You can easily fix a power supply, I think one or two people on jonnyguru do it if it is worth it.

It's just heatsinks and capacitors with a transformer or 2.

Are there any 13 inch laptops out there with a decent processor and a 720p display? I can't find any on the Dell, Sony, or HP websites. I tried searching the Asus website, but its nearly impossible to navigate. Does such a laptop exist?
