The US does. +01. Only applicable if you are calling out of the country into the country.

He's talking about websites.

There is the TLD .us, and some states have, say, .ny.us. We just don't use it much 'cause the Internet was pretty much made here, so people just use .com.

How can I get my avatar to change every time the refresh button is hit? Is there some sort of special image hosting site that does this?

Edit: Also, what is the software that you guys use to make videos into GIFs and then resize them for avatars? (This has probably been asked a bunch but it's late and I'm not going to fish through this thread to find it)

Why do people from every other country have an accent accept for Americans?

lols.

This is probably just my flawed selfish thinking but I feel like I have absolutely no accent. I live in Michigan and I sound (to me) like I have don't have an accident at all, but I'm sure people from other places around the world can detect it.
It's weird, kind of like how you can't smell your own gas or tickle yourself.

I didn't see a thread about this story. Did I miss the thread or did GAF miss the news story?

Hopefully there wasn't a thread. I hate that some things are considered "news" just because they're completely disturbing....but if that was a GAF thread, it probably wouldn't last past a few pages.

My apologies if asking too many questions is considered abusing this thread but I have yet another one:

I'm an American interested in getting in to watching European football but what league is the best to watch ie most accessible, most popular in Europe? I hear a lot of talk about Manchester United and Arsenal. What league are they in?

Manchester United and Arsenal are in the English Premier League. It is probably the most prestigious league in the world too. Althouogh some here may argue that the Spanish La Liga is on par with the English League.

Can a fellow Canadian explain to me why I should bother contributing to my RSP right now in my mid-20's when I'm only working a couple of low-paying part-time jobs?

My feeble mind (when it comes to math, taxes, accounting, etc) is trying to wrap my head around the concept, and as I understand it, it's designed to help people essentially reduce their income during years where they're in high tax-brackets (say, 40%) and essentially store that income away to be retrieved later when they retire and their bracket might be only 20% or whatever.

As a part-timer/student, I'm in as low a bracket as it gets. Why squirrel the money away now? I'm a little hesitant at stowing my money away into a system I don't fully yet understand, but I have everyone in my family (non of my peers have bothered with RSPs yet, to my knowledge) telling me to do this asap and using terminology I just don't understand. :lol

So I want to order Cursed Mountain from Amazon, but they're out of stock.

Generally when Amazon is out of stock, do they actually restock in a reasonable amount of time, or am I much much better served going somewhere else? I don't mind waiting a week or so, but is it realistic to think they will restock?

I'm assuming an RSP is the Canadian equivalent of an IRA?

There are a number of reasons to put money in now:
-Start saving for retirement. It is never too early to do this. These sorts of accounts are an excellent way to make yourself save.
-Any money you put into this account can grow tax-free. You will not have to pay any taxes on interest, dividend, or capital gains until you withdraw the money after retirement.
-Reduce your taxes now. Yes, you're in a low tax bracket, but it's still useful to defer taxation, and lower that tax bill.

A classic example to show why opening an RSP now would be a good thing:

Let's say you're 25 and want to retire at 65. That's 40 years, tons of time, right? Yes, but...

If you started saving $2000/yr right now in your RSP, assuming an 8% return, you'd wind up with ~$518,000 at retirement.

If you were to wait 5 years and start at age 30, you'd have to save $3000/yr, or 1 1/2 times as much, to wind up with the same amount of money! Wait 10 years and start at age 35? You now have to save $4500/yr, or 2 1/2 times as much. That's the power of compounding. And that's why you should start saving as early as possible.

Going to start taking creatine and need some advice..
411icfMuqRL.jpg

the creatine that im getting says
"Consume 20-25 g of Creatine Monohydrate for 4-5 days to help promote muscle saturation. Maintain Creatine levels with 5-7 g per day thereafter. For best results, mix 1 rounded teaspoon of Optimum Nutrition's Creatine Powder into 8 oz. of cold water or your favorite sugary, non-acidic and non-caffeinated beverage."

it doesnt say whether to take it before or after. if i take it before how long before my work out do i take it?? is it better to take it after?? iv also herd about taking it in cycles...like taking it for 6-8 weeks then stopping completely for a couple of weeks then start up again.
are you supposed to see better results like that or after the loading period is it just best just to stay on it??

any advice would be appreciated :D

It really depends on their supplier and the availability of the item.

I have a really demanding exam ahead of me. It consists of 7 tests each lasting 5 h (Its the German 2nd state exam in law fyi).
Are there any supplements I can take during that time to enhance concentration, memory etc. Im not talking about heavy medication here.

What's the name of that dynasty warrior-esque game on the PS2 that has like thousands of enemies on the screen at once? I remember seeing it on Youtube once upon a time.

Kohan? Gaming Age was super crazy about it back in the day.

Alright. I don't have Norton 360 anymore. When I would use Norton to delete my internet history files and other stuff, no past sites would show up in the address bar. The problem is that when I go to tools and delete browsing history, everything is checked and ready to go. If I go to google and type in the search engine for something that I've looked for in the past, the results show that I've visted that site in the past.

Any way of completely erasing EVERYTHING from my internet search history?

Can someone tell me how to get WMP 12 to completely re-index your library from scratch? No matter what I try it's still not collecting everything (mostly Zune Pass content), and is still listing podcasts which are no longer in a folder included in the WMP library. This shit is unnecessarily fucking convoluted.

Win7 btw.

Is there any way to change the Avast 5 notification voice? I've Googled and it looks like all the results are only applicable to older versions.

I really want to have the voice sound like the one in C&C Tiberium Wars

Edit: Never mind, found the sound files :D

What's a good brand of computer chair? Specifically, one that leans back a bit on its own. I tend to sit leaning forward on my chair, which over time causes the chair itself to lean forward... you can see where this is going.

Overall, I am not looking to spend more than a couple hundred on a chair, cloth or leather since I have no preference, and it has to be a high backed chair since I tend to fall asleep in my chair constantly so having a headrest keeps my neck in not-pain.

is it true that when you fall from the sky(at a very high height ie: 14 floors and up) that you pass out before you hit the pavement in effect not feeling anything?

Is there any way to save a web page as a PDF, but with the original layout/format of the page? I have Acrobat, but it appears that when I save a page, it will butcher it into a single column thing. For example, if the site has a narrow sidebar with links and then the main content along the other side, it will fill up the first few pages with whatever was on the sidebar, then place the main content after that. I want the page as close to the original layout as possible. I'm basically saving some art tutorial pages in case they ever disappear.

I don't know for certain, but someone might be mixing up what happens if you were to skydive from a very high altitude without an air supply. If you're around 30,000 feet or so up, you'd pass out from lack of oxygen, but you'd probably wake up soon after you came back within tolerable conditions, and then go splat not long after.

where is the identification thread?

i need a movie ID.

There's a scene where they finnd a case of money in the basement. And it crumbles apart. My sister thought it was Money Pit, but that's not it. Someone else thought it was The Burbs.

Attention Brits,
Why do your sports casters have these weird microphones with the flat part at the top that they stick right up to their lip? Can anyone shed light on this? It has been driving me crazy. Here is a picture from This Mitchell and Webb Look where they are Snooker commentators and have the mics.

Why does every country but the US have to use a country code in their website? Why doesn't the US?

It has basically already been answered, but since the internet as we know it today was heavily developed and popularized in the US, you can consider this a sort of "first mover advantage." It's the same reason the UK is the only country in the world that doesn't have to put its name on its postage stamps.

I would try something like:

http://www.pdfill.com/freewriter.html

Then print the webpage to a PDF? Might work, depending on how the page is generated for printing.

Actually anyone can have a ".com" if they want. The website names just map to an IP anyway.

Can someone please explain how this NAT business work on a PS3? From what google/gaf have told me, NAT 3 is really bad while 1 & 2 is basically the same thing, with 2 meaning being connected through a router.

I've had some annoying issues with my wireless & connection in general & my ISP seems to have fixed it all tonight. I've always been at NAT 2 previously but tonight, after the clock bug got fixed, I was on type 1 all of a sudden. And now I'm back at 2 again O_o Make sense of that for me please :lol My Dell wireless router is connected to my broadband modem, otherwise it wouldn't know there's an internet to send to the ps3 to begin with. After some testing, it seems the wireless finds the web no matter what RJ-45 slot I use. 4 are called LAN1-4 & there's one called "Internet" & the only thing I've changed is my pc's cable from the modem to the wireless so I could enter its setup menu at http://my.router/ & I switched the port that connect the modem with the wireless from LAN1 to "Internet". My ps3 shouldn't be able to believe it's directly connected to the web imho since the signal needs to travel through two pieces of hardware, each having its own built-in firewall, before it reaches the console.

There shouldn't be any performance issues between type 1 & 2 right? I suppose the question would be, should I be concerned at all at not being at Type 1 for more than 5 minutes? I just don't get why the console would even consider it a possibilty that it might be connected diectly to the source :P
