How much eye contact is too much eye contact? It seems like everyone has trouble keeping eye contact, but I feel like I keep it too much.

It can be great with the ladies, but I feel like it creeps out most people.

Shower head question-

The stream isn't hard and they cross in different directions. Doesn't have the circular, hard stream of water coming out when we first installed it.

I'm assuming it's calcium build up. I googled and read that putting a bag full of vinegar around the head and leaving it for 20 minutes should do the trick.

Does that sound about right?

EDIT-Didn't work. Maybe I need to leave it overnight?

1) I am learning japanese reading and though i should strengthen my Hiragana first before i learn Kanji. Is there books that are purely Hiragana? or better, Furigana availible in UK and i can buy it with out going to Ebay or big hassle?

I never bought a book for hiragana, I used this site and learned them before I ever stepped into a Japanese classroom:

http://thejapanesepage.com/beginners/hiragana/a

This site does a good job of teaching you the hiragana, but keep in mind the characters on here are the "full" versions and differ slightly from the handwritten style (not a big deal).

EDIT: I just realized you may have already learned this and simply want to reinforce what you've already memorized through reading books. In this case I'm not sure what I would recommend, but there are tons of books that use furigana with all the kanji. I personally went through textbooks.

Have you ever seen a workplace fight break out?

I was down in our office complex cafeteria and witness two women go WWE on each other. Condiments were flying and everything.

Not sexy, in case Horny-Gafer was chiming in. 2 middle aged office ladies in pant suits throwing down is not sexy. Funny, but not hot.

Funny you say ? I'm picturing the scene and it's making me sad

It is sad.

But, it reminded me of Springer and that made me happy.

CLR works in 20 minutes, but be sure to rinse the living hell out of the head before jumping underneath it. That would be a very bad day.

Or, Wal-Mart has shower heads for, like, 10 bucks.

What's the proper use of 'neither' and 'nor'? is it specifically relating to two items?

Example:
"I can't believe neither A Prophet nor The White Ribbon won best foreign film at the oscars"

Or do we use 'or' when comparing two items when using 'neither' and then use 'nor' to tack on a third?

Ex:
"I can't believe neither A Prophet or The White Ribbon won best foreign film at the oscars, nor that the cove got best documentary"

I'm using it like the first example, but I'm not real sure that I know what I'm doing...

You use neither/nor or either/or. Neither/or isn't valid.

But I'd say in your second example that you're using "nor" incorrectly. The second statement doesn't have to be tied to the first like that.

Does anyone knows a good website to make countdown timers? One of those that you can post on GAF with the IMG tags.

Thanks guys and gals.

In your first example, the use of can't, with neither makes that a double negative. My opinion is that you would/should just rephrase that entirely, such as:

"I'm stunned that neither A Prophet, nor The White Ribbon won best foreign film at the oscars."

neither/nor obviously relates to an exclusionary type statement in which both items are left out. either/or, then, relates to an inclusionary provision for one of the subjects/items.

Both can be used singularly/plurally, with the the according emphasis to complete the statement.

"I'm shocked that neither the one fan of The Blind Side, nor the many fans of Avatar ARE upset by the obvious win for The Hurt Locker as best picture.

In your second example, you're combining a third component with the two singular/plural items which are acceptable in a neither/nor, either/or type statement. Your second statement should most likely read:

"I find it difficult to believe that neither The Prophet, nor The White Ribbon won best foreign film at the oscars; or that The Cove won for best documentary.

Haven't watched a movie from XBL yet, but I would assume that there would be a little more compression artifacts than the Blu-Ray. Audio stream would have to be compressed, too. I doubt most people would notice, though. You'd need a huge, high quality home theater setup to even begin to perceive those slight differences in audio and video.
I haven't seen any 1080p XBL downloads, but I find this hard to believe...my TV is not super-high-end by any means (42" Panny plasma), and the difference between ANY form of downloaded HD content (Netflix, cable, PSN, etc.) and Blu-Ray is very easily apparent to me, especially when it comes to scenes involving fast motion (this is usually where compression rears its ugly head the most).

UK related question!!! Okay, because a bank fucked me over and left me with a savings card (which I can only use with their cashpoints, and isn't a debit card like the previous one they gave me, grr) I was wondering if I'm able to get a phone on contract sorted out using that bank account. :/ I know nothing about banks, and paying stuff through banks and barrgghabg.

If I can, is the Blackberry curve 8520 worth getting? I want a Blackberry because I'm a slave to trends, and it's cheap and I'm poor.

Do you want to talk to me? Or what do you want to do with me? Watch my eating techniques here? How I gorge the chicken? How I eat like a barracuda?

yeah, vinegar will help, but might take a bit depending on the amount of buildup.

Man, is there anything better than boobies?

yeah, that's my situation. which text books are particularly referring to? is it available worldwide?

Have you been writing the characters as well as practicing reading them? Honestly there isn't much more to do than that. Putting off learning kanji to practice hiragana isn't really going to get you anywhere. If you were to take a formal class, you'd probably get started on kanji after the first week.

So a buddy of mine is moving to Scotland from the US and had a question about his 360...can he play it over in Scotland despite it being a US machine?

Obviously he would need a power converter...but could he just pick up a power supply over there...or is there anything else he would need to know?

Thanks.

What the program everyone uses to make GIFs? I've been wondering this forever.
I use Photoshop, but you can also do them on GIMP which is free in the event that you don't have Photoshop.

Is the 'speed' at which we experience time something from evolution and specific to the person (not in a relativity way) or is it an inherent set speed in everything.

You can make GIFs with Photoshop? You mean... animated GIFs?

I use VirtualDub. It's a video editor which can resize/save animated GIFs. If I want to batch edit a GIF, video, or something, I'll open it with VirtualDub, export all frames, create an automation script in Photoshop and do my stuff. Then put the frames back in VirtualDub and make it a GIF.

Oh, a question. Is there a video editing software where you can... draw on a video? Like... add word bubbles here or there, text, or John Madden style circling, or something like that?

I've often pondered how we and other creatures experience time. I like to believe it's unique to each brain. Possibly even unique to chemical balances at any given moment within a person/creature .. hence the phrase "time flies when you're having fun". I really think there's something to why thats true but when you're bored and at work it feels like five minutes = 1 hour. Also, it might be simplistic of me to assume so but I have to imagine that time must lapse faster for creatures like hummingbirds .. either that or they have insane synaptic processes.

WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH THE WEATHER?

2i1zg5t.jpg

Two low pressure fronts? How does that work? Does it go to neutral pressure and drop again? Do they stack? Is the west one super low pressure?

The high pressure of the caribbean? What?

What is going on above the midwest L? Is the midwest a swirling maelstrom?

Alabama is being ripped up? All of bigass Texas is just blank? Is South Dakota having thundersnowstorms?

Why does the red line branch out of the blue one over Mississippi? What does a purple line mean?

Yea I know this is not the best place for this but I didn't know where else to request this:

If someone would kindly make a thread on my behalf on asking for Gaffers who have had LASIK Eye surgery with/or wavefont in the UK, could they post how it went for them?

I am looking to get Laser Eye Surgery, I have gone for a consult, and I am debating to get it done, its half price for me 2 grand for LASIK with wavefront, no blade to cut the cornea.

Can the op also mention Gaffers that haven't undergone the procedure post generic myths and other disinformation regarding the procedure in the thread that hits every other thread I have seen online which leads to posting of youtube vids where it goes wrong. Yea we already know about that shit and I am still looking to get it done.

I know the Optimax website or other Optical Surgery site would be best place for this but I expect there would be some BAIS on such sites. So a gaffer willing to help a junior out?

If not then this post deserves to be here :D

I don't know when the last thread was made about this, but I do recall seeing a couple on this subject since I've been here. I don't know much about it, but I do know that Dragona swears against it, I do remember that.

I know why the search function is down, but does anyone know if/when it will be coming back up?

The lack of search also disables the "find all posts by this user" feature, which google isn't very good at doing.

Any reason why you just don't get a new showerhead? They really aren't that expensive. Just asking.

Is it okay to send a cover letter with a resume, even if it doesn't ask for a cover letter?

Even more than your resume, just don't use a stock or same cover letter for every job. If you use it, make it customized, direct, and focused.

Back in January I paid off my mortgage. In February the mortgage company sent me a check for my escrow balance, but that's it. Am I supposed to get a deed, title, or some kind of certificate suitable for framing that says I own my house?

Can someone help me find a solid articulating LCD Wall Mount for my 47" LCD?

I don't want to spend $150+ on one.
I would love to order this one for $50 but since Monoprice is getting busted at the moment its not an option.
I've seen a few on Amazon but the reviews are always very sketchy.

Any ideas?

Anyone here ever train their cat to walk on a leash? I tried it with mine and she wasn't having it but I'd really like to take her out for strolls this spring.
