If I already have the hypotenuse and the ratio of the other 2 sides, how do I work out their lengths?

e.g. How would I calculate the dimensions of a 30 inch LCD screen?

Fuck, I used to take advanced math...

Fuck, I used to take advanced math...

(16x)^2 + (10x)^2 = 30^2
256x^2 + 100x^2 = 900
356x^2=900
x^2= 900/356
x=1.5899

16x=24.439 inches
10x= 15.899 inches

plus theres an extra 1-1.5 inches on each side i think right?

I can not find my own thread. It was called funny video thread with Indian singer getting scared. If some one finds kinky. i wanted to request GIF of him dodging bullets.

Any crust! Any size!

Except stuffed crust! Oh, and extra large (super supreme) costs more too. So much for any crust and any size.

Back when this first started and before the site was redesigned you could add a pizza with let's say pan crust to your cart (or whatever you call it) and then once there choose the edit option to change it to a stuffed crust and they wouldn't charge you the extra 2 dollars. Not sure if its still that way or not.

Can anyone please recommend good event sites for NYC? By event sites I mean websites that will list things like free concerts or interesting exhibits going on in a local museum on their site.

Much thanks.

I don't know why I have these bookmarked because they look like crap. Just in case: Thrillist, UrbanDaddy

Otherwise, I'd just Google "NYC events" or something. You get results like Time Out New York.

Is there an app or something to retrieve email from hot mail (lol hotmail etc)? or even just notify me when I have mail?

Ideally I want something to put in Rocketdock that pops up when I get new mail in my hot mail account. Does such a thin exist?

Searching google for "hotmail notifier" suggests there are quite a few! "notifier2" is linked from the digg site, I don't know if that can be considered a recommendation or anything, though.

Gaf, whats wrong with my internet?
I'm currently under the verizon DSL 3 Mbps plan (I live in SoCal and currently using the free modem they gave me if that makes a difference).
I'm using a wired connection, but my internet connection is horrible.
My connection is always choppy, it only runs smoothly a few days out of the month.
Streaming videos from websites should be fine with my connection, but with my choppy connection the streaming is very inconsistent and only streams smooth on a good day.
It is especially bad when it rains and can become slow as dial-up.
Google searches should be instant, but sometimes it takes around 6 seconds to make a complete search.
I tried calling customer service, but they just tell me to reset my modem which hasn't helped.
Verizon came to check out the lines, ran smooth for the day, but the next day my connection was choppy as usual.
I've been dealing with this problem for over a year now, thinking of switching providers if the issue continues.
Anyone know what's the problem?

Edit: It only rained lightly for about an hour today, but this question still took about 15 secs. to post :(

Are there people from Something Awful here?
Because I can't read threads anymore on that website.
Every time I click on a thread I got this message:
Sorry, you must be a registered forums member to view this page. If you are already a member, login here.

To register your very own account, see our registration page

A BRIEF OVERVIEW (WHY DO WE CHARGE TO REGISTER?)

In order to offset server costs and bandwidth bills, Something Awful charges a one time only $9.95 fee for a basic forum account registration. As we all know, the Internet industry is pretty much a craphole these days, and the only way website owners can break even is by charging subscriptions. I want to keep the main site and content free of charge, so your registrations and donations help keep both the forums and main server alive, as well as keeping me out of prison for murdering advertising executives.

Some of you may have a problem with the notion of this website charging people for an account. You may say that other forums are free and don't cost anything to register, so there's absolutely no reason for you to pay money for an account here. That is fine by me; if you don't want to pay, I will not ask you to pay. It is a decision completely up to you. The SA forums, however, are a thriving community full of what I feel to be the funniest crowd on the Internet, moderated by some of the best mods to ever squirt out of somebody's womb. We're troll-free and provide the best viewer-created content out of any website. If you feel you would like to join us, I freely invite you to do so. If you would not like to join or take offense to paying money for a forum account, I freely invite you to not do so. The choice is up to you.

HOW TO REGISTER AN ACCOUNT:

By registering an account, the user agrees to abide by all the forum rules and regulations. If the user breaks any forum rule (as determined by a Something Awful Forums moderator or admin), their account could be banned and will need to register a new account. User must read the forum rules before registering, as the act of registration represents the user's agreement to all stated rules and regulations and signifies the user's intent to abide by these rules.

when should I sell a stock thats been rising like crazy?

I've got little money invested in the stock so losing it all wouldnt affect me at all ( 200$ or so )
the stock has been rising 50% over a short period of time, and today the company in question posted great financial reports and numbers, which indicates an even longer rise.

Wtf? Maybe the router they gave you is faulty? Have you tried unplugging it for an hour and replugging it back to see if it works better? If nothing else, you should call Verizon to see if a technician can help. If that doesn't work, then maybe try switching providers. Also, make sure that there's no stuff like microwaves, cellphones near the modem since it's possible it could disrupt the signal.

Kurtofan, I'm getting the same message too. I'm not a member from SA though, but I remember you can read any threads without being a member. Maybe they locked the whole forum so that lurkers are forced to pay if they want to continue reading it?

If that's true that sucks.
I mean I can understand paying for posting but for merely reading?
Oh well I guess I'll just read the Let's play archive from now on...until they lock that too.

What is the best macro recorder for XP?

I need software the records keyboard/mouse events, uses a basic-like scripting language, and does not come with crapware.

Is there such a program?

3? Assuming "bird" doesn't mean the same bird each time.

Hey I am having a really weird problem with my computer right now. Every time I press the space bar it goes into sleep mode. WTF. I am doing a virus scan atm but I think it might be related to my keyboard. Anyone have any idea how to fix?

Came across a freebie ad as I was browsing Craigslist. It was an arcade/amusement company that was giving some stuff away and I popped by. One of the things was a 7' pool table. Takes quarters/bar style. The main body was in one piece. All the bumpers, the track for the pockets to drop the balls to the side, supports, ect. All in one piece. It had no legs and no slate.

Is it possible to use 3/4 MDF as a table? Because I could do that myself and make some legs and have a pool table. But if it's going to play like crap, I'd skip it.

I've got a stupid obsession with pulling out hairs from my goatee. Will they grow back, because it looks about half the size now.

If you don't need your computer to go to sleep on its own, you might try turning off that mode altogether from the power options (run --> powercfg.cpl). It also might be something else in those power settings causing the problem, if you want to mess around, although I doubt it.

At certain intersections you're allowed to turn right on a red light if there is nobody coming from the other direction. Is it legal to turn left at a red light down a one way street that's going left?

if the street you're on is a one-way and the street you're turning onto is a one-way, it's legal.

What do you call people you know online only? People you don't think you'll meet in real life.
"e-buddies" or online friend or just friends. I had a conversation with someone from Holland the other day about this, me and her settled on friend as the term you use for people you know online.

Sports-gaf help me out. Today I played a game of soccer, took a break for an hour, and went back out to the field and practiced for an hour or so longer. Now every time I move my legs into the wrong position I'm getting horrible, agonizing cramps. Like the whole muscle that runs down the back of my thigh to my calf is locking up, and its very hard to do anything but stand in pain and try to rub/bend it out. Any tips for getting rid of this shit?
Your leg muscles are cramping because they are dehydrated after your vigorous exercise, start drinking more fluids/water while playing.

I don't think speaking face-to-face is a prerequisite for "friend", so I would agree.

Sometimes I'll specify that I know them online, after saying friend, if necessary.

What's a good program to rip dvds with? I have some tv show seasons I want to watch but my disk drive usually runs loud. Going on a trip too, so I don't want to have to carry them with me.

Sometimes when I'm playing a game or watching a blu-ray movie on the PS3 the tv can go black for about a second then it comes back showing the resolution in the upper corner. I have been searching but I don't seem to be able find a good solution. The tv is a Bravia-32V5500, it did the same thing on my older tv when I had the PS3 to output 1080i but never with 720p.

Anyone on neogaf with a good solution?

Right in the middle of playing a game/watching a movie?

HDMI handshake error? I got the same, it only happens when I start the game, then I need to switch from TV mode back to HDMI-input and it's fixed

So the Cost of Capital and the Required Rate of Return are the same thing, but from opposite views? Cost of Capital is what a company should be earning and the Required Rate of Return is what investors expect to earn?

Basically they would be the same number for the same company - right?

Can I use a CAPM to develope a required return and then plug that in as a cost of capital for a net present value calculation?

They're not exactly the same. CAPM uses volatility relative to the market (in the form of beta) to determine an appropriate rate of return that investors will expect on their equity investment. But WACC (which is what you'll be using for NPV) also includes debt obligations.

You can use CAPM to find one of the inputs for WACC.

Sometimes I think I'm too funky. Is this even possible?

You know what...on second thought that question probably does deserve its own thread...

Why does "up" and "down" mean the same thing when asking if someone wants to hang out?

Example

I'm down to hang out.

I'm up for some wings and beer tonight.

Because "lol linguistics."

Slang can come from just about anywhere and become bastardized and intermixed. There really is no rhyme or reason to the flow of language, especially slang.

You jive turkey, you.

How much sugar does ketchup contain? On a heinz bottle it says it does contain sugar, but not how much. A couple of years ago a Dutch show stated that one bottle of ketchup on average contains 45 cubes of sugar. Other sources say 25-30 cubes of sugar on average. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Edit: Heinz website says a tablespoon (17 gr.) contains 4 gr. of sugar, so that'd be 23.52%. 1 cube of sugar is 4 gr. Bottle contains 500 mg., so Heinz says bottle = 117.6 gr of sugar (29-30 cubes). Dutch consumer program says: bottle has (on average) 180 gr. of sugar. Could be other brands are sweeter then Heinz.

When will shops in the UK realise that US candy (but not chocolate) and sodas are superior and sell them, so that I don't have to pay £1.20 a can in specialist stores?
