What's the name of the phenomenon when you get that choppy playback while playing a 24 FPS material on a 60Hz display (when refresh causes 1 frame to be longer viewed then another one)?

I've been reading histories of 19th century literary periodicals, and there was one fairly famous occasion when an author, enraged by a review, beat the person he thought responsible 'near to death' with a riding crop.

I've never seen or held a riding crop, GAF. If anyone has, does this sound serious ? I mean, I assume it would be a pretty nasty god damned sensation to be hit with one, but would you choose it as a weapon to do damage ?

Flagellation can surely kill but a riding crop would be a very poor instrument for that purpose.

I think that the termination of a riding crop (leather patch or loop) is actually meant to be less painful and damaging than a (lashing) whip.

It could be that 19th century accounts of antagonistic relationships between authors and critics are sometimes subject to a certain level of embroidery ?

That feature only works on avatars hosted on this server.

Doesn't seem to be the case. Grantley Berkeley, soldier and a 'practiced bruiser', had his brother stand at the door of the victim's shop - so as to prevent escape and interference - and struck him to the ground with his fists, and punched him a bit more, at which point he took up the riding crop - apparently one used by rough-riders in the military and about a thumb's circumference and bound with wire at the butt. He thrashed him with both ends of that on the head and hands until - as is fixed in history - Fraser (at the time an old bloke) was near death. Maginn, one of Fraser's friends and colleagues, took offence and engaged Berkeley in a duel - of which he made a farce by shooting almost straight down into the ground near his foot and showing great indifference. Berkeley was one of the famous shots of the day, so he could well have been killed.

It all seems, now I've looked into it a bit more, like serious business.

alright so im buying a house. Our contract is for 150k we are put 10% down ((15k)Mortgage is for 135). the house just appraised for 160. Does this mean we have 16.667% down on the mortgage now (((15+10)-150)/150 = 83.333% left to pay) or 15.625% in the house (135/160=84.375).

Assuming I'm parsing your question right, it's the latter.

My balls are getting saggier, should I slow down on the masturbation?
Do you mean masturbate less or just slow down your jerking motion?

And my question is, what is that feeling that astronauts supposedly get when looking at Earth from space? Isn't there a psychological term for it? Was just reading something about astronauts and couldn't remember what this phenomenon was called.

Not sure if serious? Don't know if there is a term for it, but i'm sure literally looking down at a flouting sphere that consists of everything and everyone you will ever know and have ever known, leaves an impact.

No, I'm looking for the term.

Something weird is happening with my lap top.
It keeps clicking on stuff without me touching on it. For example, I'll be reading a thread here and it'll click on something random in the screen and go to that page. I'm not hitting the button or anything, what the fuck?

I see, thanks. I could have sworn they were saying "Ryu-Ken!"

I think the dragon punch is Sho-Ryu-Ken. I remember reading some manga when I was little with the story of how they grew up and they had a friend called Sho. I'm not sure if it's canon but I always thought the name of the punch game from those three.

Interweb peens when you add moderators and admins

you can stalk your friends and the forum software could allow Buddy highlighting and stuff, but I guess they are disabled

Question: Is there a PC or Mac program similar (but maybe more robust?) to the FlipNote studio that's available on DSiWare? It's a nifty little program, but I'd be curious if there's something like that with more pressure sensitivity, more color, but with the ability to flip to the next frame with a transparent version of the previous frame for reference.

A forum post about black women having bigger booties has led me to actually research the differences between ethnicities when it comes body shapes. Some ethnicities tend to have particular physical characteristics, but why do some latin and most black women develop such curves, especially in the buttocks area, irrespective of their actual weight?

I came across the story of Sarah Baartman (above pic) and hope to research more of it. I was going to make a thread but it would have just derailed into a discussion about asses in general and not the question itself.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steatopygia
Evolutionary hypotheses

Steatopygia is believed to be an adaptive physiological feature for female humans living in hot environments, as it maximizes their bodies' surface-area/volume ratio but keeps enough fat to produce hormones needed for menstruation.

With fat deposited heavily in only certain areas in the middle on the trunk of the body, the limbs are left slim enough to expel heat more efficiently.

But more likely, being able to store large fat amounts is important in very seasonal environments like those in African savanna, where during the dry season, a food shortage ensues, and people live largely off of their stored fat.

Interesting. I'm not sure we can claim though every girl with a large ass has a form of Steatopygia. Having seen photos of women with Steatopygia, the difference between that and modern day 'big asses' is too extreme IMO. If a modern day black women for example eats as much needed to be a Sarah Baartman figure, you would see her gain weight throughout her entire body. She would look like any other obese women. I've read an alternative theory that suggests some of these women actually have a different bone structure in their lower body e.g femur bone, allowing them to develop rounds buttocks even if they are thin.

Having said that, most of the black girls I know say that any fat gain goes straight to their thighs and ass, rarely their stomach or arms or legs etc. But at the same time, none of them would be a Sarah Baartman if they gained weight - their body would spread out the fat as opposed to restricting it to the buttock. So is this something similar to Steatopygia or just a milder form?

It also doesn't address why women from South Asia e.g. India, Indonesia, Philipines, Thailand etc, don't demonstrate Steatopygia even though they are along the equator whereas you do it see it more common in Latin/South America countries although not that many nor to such a degree. This seems like a race-specific trait.

perhaps levels of humidity are important here?

Help me name my cat.
We've had him for two weeks now but we haven't found the right name yet. He's a hyperactive, fluffy orange tabby who loves pizza. We tried names like Max, Rizza, Vincent and Cheeto but nothing has stuck. I've been calling him Dingus but that isn't a very nice name.

I'm tired of calling him "The Kitten".
