Does anyone know any places to get cheap Memory Stick Pro Duos? I was looking around at Amazon, saw a 4GB Sandisk branded one for $7 and was about to jump on that, but it turned out it was from one of their affiliates, which would charge $6 shipping with no possibility of FSSS. Need a 4GB or better for the supposedly free movie that came with my PSP that I can't even watch without getting a bigger Memory Stick.

Hey all! I was just wondering, why is it that when you test your internet speed on speedtest.net or shop around for ISPs, they usually measure their data in megabits, but when you download something with a browser or look at the size of a file on your computer, the data is normally measured in megabytes?
 
^^^That bugs the hell out of me. If I had to guess, it's probably to mislead consumers and make their numbers look better than they really are.

You don't choose what you get displayed under your name, the mods do it(whenever/if they choose) based on something. Say you were always helpful to other GAFFers, you'd get a tag saying: Helpful Member. If you did something stupid you'd get a tag reinforcing how stupid you did something, like a tag saying like a helpful of Members.(pun intended)

I also recommend you read the FAQ if you wish to stay while.

My brother is studying abroad (in Michigan state) and I miss the motherfucker. I want to play some NHL 11 with him occasionally over the coming semester. Money's tight so I don't know if he will be able to nab a television. He will have to get a cheap laptop eventually, and we happened to have a spare 360 (gift from a cousin) and he's got it with him in his dorm room.

This is my question: is it possible to use a laptop monitor as a TV screen for a 360 system? My brother's got a 360, an HDMI cable, and let's say he gets a laptop with an HDMI port on it. Can we use that laptop screen as a TV screen for the 360?
 
Sigh--I my PSP wont work. Orange lights up for 20 seconds and then dies. If I turn it on (green light) the battery meter is full (WTF). The cable is fine.

NCIX or Amazon. I too lost a pen and was so mad. They make those models where the pen can be held by the tablet itself. Less prone to lose it that way

Most likely not. The HDMI port on the laptop is probably video out only, to display the laptop on a bigger screen.
 
I need to buy a car soon and I don't know much. What's a good car to buy for a new driver? I'm looking through craigslist posts but I don't know what I should look at. My range is $2000-3500.
 
"New driver." Does that mean you're like 16-20? I would see if you have any friends or family members with junkers for under $1000 before using Craigslist. That way you can beat it up a little (and, oh, you will) without feeling too guilty about it.

As for what make/model or what to look for to make sure you're not getting ripped off (referring of course to Craiglist) I can't really say.

21 lol. I've checked and they don't have anything. I don't know what I'm looking for but I'd like a small car.
 
My "soundsystem" consists of two speakers and a subwoofer, hooked up to my computer. The subwoofer is at the bottom of my desk, sitting atop an inch-thick piece of wood with maybe an inch and a half between that and my floor. I'm on the top floor in an apartment building. Would putting, say, a cut out piece of that soundproofing foam stuff that they put on walls underneath my subwoofer on the floor do anything to dampen sound from my sub for the person below me?

I need a solderless bread board for class, and want to be cheap. The one the teacher showed off is brandless, and seems to be 2 breadboard bolted to a metal plate of sorts. Can Gaf figure out where I can find this online?

So GAF I have this Samsung TV.

My wife has informed me that she wants to watch 3D shit on this TV. What do I need to do in order to make that happen? Is it possible with the Television unit that I linked? It does say '3D ready' on the product description of the TV. What kind of glasses do I buy? Do I need a converter of sorts?

I know nothing of this 3D movement and am not very interested in it personally. School me GAF. Help me please my wife.

For me, the mouth has a white line through it, and the bottom and right side is cut off so it's not completely circular.

We had more, but they were taken away after abuse and misuse. Every other post would end with a :rolleyes or that smug looking yellow :). They got rid of :lol for a while, but we fought back to get it. It has since taken over as the preferred douchebag smiley. Don't have anything to strengthen your point? Quote someone you disagree with and post 50 :lol smilies.

I hope it doesn't go away, though. I love it when it's used for good. :(

I fixed it!!

Somehow my Internet Explorer settings had the screen ever so slightly zoomed in so things looked messed up.

Back to 100%, all good now.
 
Can someone explain to me the "magnets"(or something like: magnets how do they work?) thing?
I've seen it posted a few times now, what's that?

You might want to check Kmart. Ended up randomly finding a 8GB Pro Duo for 12 dollars there not too long ago. It was red tagged clearance, Sandisk (The best brand imo) at that.
 
Did Facebook change the compression rate for the picture you upload on the site lately ?

I upload 400 pictures in June with decent quality (for the size Facebook is offering: 480*720) but last week, I started upload more pictures but they all look like utter shit. I double checked my output parameter on Lightroom 3 but nothing as changed.

I'm having terrible jaggies, compression artifacts and hell, even aliasing on the same data pictures, uploaded 2 month later on Facebook !
