1. I doubt it would be possible for everyone to file their way out of a plane to parachute in an orderly fashion in the event of an emergency. Everyone would be freaking out.joedan said:Why don't they put parachutes in commercial airliners rather than floating seat cushions? Makes more sense to me.
2. Jumping using a parachute is dangerous without training, how are airlines supposed to train passengers? Plus, equipping every seat with a parachute is surely much more expensive than providing floating seat cushions.
3. In the event of a crash, you're probably gonna die anyway. The flotation devices, seat cushions, and oxygen masks are likely there to make people feel safer, even if they're not.
4. Also, most crashes IRL are not the kind you see in movies--there isn't a ton of time before the pilots realize a crash is imminent to prepare everyone to evacuate. Usually kind of an "Everything seems to be OK..." *10 seconds of utter panic/realization* BOOM. Not enough time to parachute to safety.
