How do railroad companies feel about grafitti? It's on almost every traincar I see so I was wondering if it's something they expect to happen and do nothing to prevent, or if they try to stop it?

I don't think they care, and would rather not spend money on something like that. The graffiti doesn't damage the train cars and it's not like they're beautiful pieces of engineering in the first place. If anything the graffiti makes them look better lol. I like looking at the tags and designs and thinking "cool, that piece of graffiti means something to someone"

So no other comments on Something Awful's community?

I've been told a while ago that it's similar to GAF.

Some sections have really great communities like GAF (such as Automotive Insanity and the hobby sections) while others are based on humor and others you want to completely stay out of.

I lurked for a year or two before getting an account.
In my opinion, it's worth the ten bucks. Lurk for a while though, and make sure you really want to spend money on it.

Alright this is a dumb question but I need some help with this. How do you calculate a school mark if there are certain things that I have not taken yet? For example, say that I am getting a 60 percent average on assignments that are worth 30 percent, 90 percent on something that is worth 10 percent and 75 percent on something that is out of 25 percent. That is 65 percent of the total for all the marks in the class but the remaining 35 percent have yet to be taken. How do I calculate my mark? At one point I knew how to do this but I have been away from school for a bit and can't understand how I can't think of this.

(60*.3)+(90*.10)+(75*.25) = 45.75%

45.75/(100-35) = 70.38%

Currently, you have a 70.38% in the class.

Why do Americans hate paying with payments? I mean, it's very common over here, but when I look at most online stores from the US, none of them has any option to pay with multiple payments.

Is there a way to block a thread as you can block a poster? I don't want to see the Black Swan thread popping up because I'm weak and I don't want it spoiled.

There used to be a Firefox add-on that did this. Can't find it, though. >:

Lol, for fun I threw it into Wolfram Alpha:

(I added "location" to the query, otherwise it drew paths between the cities.)

No names, but locations listed. I am amazed.
Whoa, this is great, thanks!!

If I have to die, doing so watching Portman and Kunis fucking to the music of Clint Mansell is about as fine a way to go as I can think of.

No problem, thanks for the info, I'll try and hunt it down.

You'd probably break your legs as well from all the recoil. You might get lift I guess, but if your legs can't tolerate the beating, you won't get very far :)

Where does the wax go when candles burn down? Is the wax just becoming more compacted or is there moisture in there that is evaporating?
When it's burned, it turns into water vapor, carbon dioxide, heat and visible light.

I remember a few years ago I used to go on this site called fantasy teevee where you picked characters for TV shows and got points based on how long they were on screen. For some reason I can no longer find that site. Does anyone know what happened to it or where it went?

If it no longer exist is there anything else like it?

My girlfriend has a 2 year old son from her previous marriage and his father gets him every two weeks. It's like she doesn't know how to function when her son is gone. She doesn't really have any activities or hobbies. Shopping and Facebooking aren't hobbies in my eyes. Scrapbooking is, but she rarely partakes in that. She was offered to go to the movies by a friend but the friend had to bail out at the last second but nonetheless, I was like, why don't you go to the movies by yourself and she views that as lame. She doesn't do any individual activities. She does suffer from depression. Also, she has what I'd consider to be a super over protective nature about her in regards to her son even though he can be super bad. She has gotten better at it but she is still a creampuff in the grand scheme of things. However, is there some time of technical term for her behavior? Some suggestions to get her out of her lethargic behavior in thinking that her world stops when he is gone. They have been at this since April of last year, she should have been able to move on, but she can't. Shit is weird to me.

Sounds like emotional dependency of some variety.

Probably something like separation anxiety. If she's already going to therapy for depression, it should be brought up there. If she's not going to therapy, maybe she should be.

I think a lot of people feel that way about going to the theatre by themselves.

My comcast went down and it was giving me the error that it couldn't reach DNS servers so I changed it to OpenDNS servers or w/e, is it okay to just keep it like that?

You be her hobby ;)

Nah, on a real note, I can somewhat relate to that. I used to spend summers doing nothing.. absolutely nothing asides from sitting around the house, taking the occasional walk and the occasional trip to a nearby basketball court to shoot a few hoops. Asides from that, it was really nothing. Come to think of it... if she really isn't strapped for time, tell her to join a yoga class or something. I hear those are always fun and enjoyable. Maybe take her out to do some random crap like laser tag. Or tell her to just try something new once in a while. But yeah... not having something to do or feeling like there's nothing to do is really not the greatest feeling. It's mad boring and it sucks the life out of you.

Would someone please tell me how to label a youtube link I post as a name of what I am linking, rather than a url? I think I recall asking the same question in this thread a long time ago but couldn't figure it out from the answer and forgot about it.

This is for general links:

[ url=linkhere]Hello this is an example

remove the space from the first and you get: Hello this is an example

Comcast should be working now. Chicago area I'm guessing?

I got finals this week too but thankfully today's was fairly easy.

you sure it wasn't a service outage? That's the error I got last time comcast went down in my area.

How good is The Shield (TV show)? Is it up there with The Sopranos, The Wire and Mad Men? Is it must see stuff?

Not a must see show but it's decent television. A little over the top at times, you can see FX was trying to flex their cable muscle a little bit with this and Nip/Tuck as far as censorship.

The shows you listed are some of my favorites as well, and The Shield trumps them all at least as far I am concerned. Honestly, I sometimes wish I could erase my memories and see it all over again. What started out as an alright police show soon turned into one of the most enjoyable things I have ever seen. It is truly an amazing show that I am proud to have seen from beginning to end. Watch it!

Interesting. Either way it seems like it's worth checking out. I'll have to watch it.

Question:
Is it ok to make a thread about the game site I manage requesting both criticism/input and potential writing applications, or is that not really kosher?

Probably depends on how its presented, but similar things have been frowned on/gotten major backlash in the past.

One single thread that isn't presented as an ad, but as a "help me learn and get better" type thing might be ok. Probably best not to ask for writing applications, since I assume you're not paying anyone.

I'm paying people. Still, I don't want to look like an ad, at all. I want honest input and see if anyone's interested in writing for us. But I'll probably wait on making a thread.
