When you have home delivery (like pizza or chinese food) is it customary to tip them? If so, how much? Also, do they normally carry around change if you only have a $20? I've never had home delivery before, and I don't wanna fuck up....

God I feel dumb for not knowing how this works

Yeah, it's customary to tip. In fact, I'm pretty sure that delivery drivers deal with the same crap that waiters and waitresses do where their pay is set at below minimum wage under the assumption that they'll make up for it in tips.

You'll find different opinions on whether you should tip at all here, as I'm sure you know, but if you tip in restaurants you ought to tip delivery drivers. I never pay attention to the 15 to 20% rule. I just give them a few bucks. Usually three. Five or six if the weather is bad or its late.

Pretty much this. Also, you can ask for the driver to have change for a $20. I always ask as a precaution.

So does anyone know what appropriate dress attire is acceptable at a ballet?

I'm assuming you're male? Going with your better half? In that case I'd just say your dress should be appropriate to what she's wearing. And she's likely to be wearing the most glitzy thing she owns. :p

Generally I'd say smart without being too formal.

Why amI getting neoGAF circa 1993 on my mac using Firefox 8.

I thought it had something to do with my school network, but it looks like this at home also.

Thanks!

QualityPixel, the CSS isn't being loaded for some reason. Maybe it's an issue with a write-protected folder or something. Although you don't have that problem on other sites, right?

Thank you very much good sir!

Is there a term for this: When I sleep at night I have to have my head propped up with two pillows because if its not up enough I get really bad bed spins .. to the point if I don't wake up and adjust myself I get intense nausea and my eyes are involuntarily moving in circles (like if you spin in circles fast and stop your eyes keep going and try to adjust).

Don't know, but sounds like an inner ear problem.

Long ago I heard a tip that if you get bed spins from imbibing too much you should let one of your legs dangle off the side of the bed so you can leave your foot flat on the floor...it helps give you a reference and you feel steady. I know you don't drink much now, but that technique might help.

So, I was watching Cheers on TV and it was about Frasier getting married to his future wife, Lilith.
I had some vague memory about Lilith being some kind of demon or something, so I did a Google search.
I found this...
http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Lilith
Does anyone else suspect the Cheers writers named their character "Lilith", in direct reference to the demon, because the character in the show seems so cold and generally unlikable, or is this name common enough for it to be a coincidence?
Ive never heard of anyone named Lilith, here in Australia.

Lilith is the hebrew name for Eve I think

i have 5 people and 5 tickets numbered 1-5

i throw those 5 tickets in a hat and let everyone pick one.

what's the chance that the last person who picks a ticket gets the number 1.

i'd say 20% what does smart GAF say.

If the number 1 is still in the hat it would be 50%. I just realized that isn't what you're asking. It's early, forgive me.

I don't drink so I never frequent bars. I do eat out a lot and sometimes the greeter will as if I'd like to sit at the bar rather than wait for a table. I never do because, frankly, sitting at a bar seems totally awkward to me.

Why exactly would someone WANT to sit at the bar? Most of the time, I see people sitting there and it's just random strangers. I might understand if someone was doing it in order to maybe meet a girl but most of the time I see just random dudes sitting there.

Maybe I'm too introverted to understand but sitting beside absolute strangers and having awkward smalltalk just seems weird and uncomfortable to me. Why would people elect to do it?

My shitty computer wont load wikipedia (cant display the text properly for some reason). From what I've read, Lilith came before Eve, but Adam pissed her off, so she ran away, then God brought in Eve as a replacement.
It seems weird to give a "normal" character a name that is so heavily associated with evil. Considering the Lilith in Cheers and Fraisier is such a ball-breaker, I suspect there may be some misogony involved, on the writers part.

That was my first thought when I heard her character's name. I don't know anyone in America named Lilith.

So, I'm involved in secret Santa. Problem has been that my person is not in the USA. So, I'm trying to send this item through PayPal. Problem is that it's set to my country. Besides calling PayPal is there an easier way to change the country?

The 'FAIL' outcome is when someone else apart from the last person picks the number 1.

20%. This is obvious intuitively (5 tickets, equal likelihood the last person gets any one of them), or you can actually do the math and you'll get 20%.

Lilith is actually a bit of an icon in feminist circles, because she refused to let Adam control her and chose to leave the garden instead. Not only that, but she was created from the Earth just like Adam, making them equals. Naming her Eve would be more misogynist, in my opinion, considering the character is created from Adam's rib (and thus considered his property) and then tempts him, often taking the entirety of blame for the Fall.

I was going to say that it is because the restaurant makes a far greater mark up on alcohol than they do on food but then I realised that that wasn't actually your question :/. That does explain why they suggest it though. Perhaps people go along with it because it is easier to do so and they don't want to stand around feeling awkward by refusing the invitation? *shrugs*

Re Lilith; my friend has a theory that the relationships in Frasier are a parody of gay relationships. So in that context Lilith would be Frasier's ex wife that he only married for respectability, his career, social standing etc and she was conveniently a butch dyke who wouldn't be making too many demands on his body; his father is actually his ex lover and his brother is actually his current lover. That might be a bit too surreal for some of you but from watching episodes again with that mindset I can certainly see where he is coming from.

My question: what is the word for when people peel off and eat the skin from their feet and/or toe nails. I heard it once but never again and that would satisfy my curiosity if anyone could oblige :).

My next question: what is the word for someone who hates everyone? I think it sounds similar to misogynist but they have a broader spectrum of hate! I heard Peter Greenaway refer to himself as *this word* once in an interview and it's made me curious ever since.

Misanthropy?

I do not believe so as I am familiar with that word so it would not have made me prick up my ears as I did when casually listening to this interview on the radio.

Your suggestion has led me to Google for synonyms of misanthrope however so you may indirectly lead me to my prize! :)

There are a few possible reasons.

1) The person is friends with the bartender, or at least talks to him/her often
2) Doesn't want to be bothered/doesn't want to dance/etc
3) Is just in there for a drink, although I guess that could also fall under #2

It's not really the same thing, but if I go to a restaurant and I just want to eat and get out, I'll sit at the bar. I've done it before, and it felt weird for some reason, like everyone was watching me, but then I stopped thinking about it and just ate my food. It's a state of mind thing, I guess.

Are there windshields on new cars these days that make other headlights less glaring at night?

I don't know about the windshield itself but I know they definitely have that for rear view mirrors now. My Focus has it. Its actually kind of annoying because if a car is behind me at night it darkens my mirror so much I have a hard time making out whats behind me but the headlights themselves. I have to put my thumb over the light sensor to actually see anything. Took awhile to adjust to that.

I'm 24, currently working full time and renting an apartment with my girlfriend.

I don't really have any extra money, and i'm not really good at anything.

Should I go to college?

Edit: Never been to college before, never attempted to go, don't have a clue where to start.

Just depends on what you want to do with your life. You can make tons of money without ever going to college.

I'm just feeling really torn. None of my family ever went to college and I want to make my Grandpa proud, but at the same time I hear these horror stories from my coworkers and friends about student loans haunting them for years.

"Defer dat shit, defer dat shit, these loans are a bitch, *looks at me* but don't let me scare you, go ahead and go to college!"

I just want to make enough to support the small family i'm trying to start. I hit a glass ceiling when applying within my company and I don't think $13 an hour will cut it for the rest of my life.

I have boxes and boxes of books. Around 20 boxes or so. Each box has around 30-40 books.

I can't keep them in storage anymore and it's a hassle. I've been buying ebooks of books I already own and getting rid of the physical copies but some books aren't uploaded/probably never will be uploaded that I have in my possession.

Is there places where I can scan these books so I have a e-version of them and I can finally get rid of my physical copies?

Or do I have to manually hand scan each book?

Thanks.

if your girlfriend is making similar money, I'd say try to find a new job before thinking about university. you need money to pay for school and $13/h isn't enough

I'm trying to find a Korean album called Locksmith Compilation 1: Blessing You, but I'm having trouble getting a hold of it. Anybody from detective/Korea-GAF willing to lend a hand or something? My google-fu has not aided me.

Are these rare books? Are they even hard to find? Do you reread books frequently?

If your answer is no to all three, just get rid of them.

I can't figure out how to sign up for Netflix in Canada. I went to Netflix.ca, and the only option seems to be "sign up using Facebook", but I don't have a Facebook account. So I need to make a Facebook account to make a Netflix account?
