Tigers nearing extinction

I don't see why I should care. Tigers are awesome to look at yes, when they aren't mauling you to death. Other than that I don't see how this effects me.

Sigh....more fake outrage. To all of the people calling for the death of poachers and saying fuck humanity, have you ever done anything to help tigers? Are you going to do something to help them now?

So many arm chair militants on the Internet nowadays.

Yeah but you can use that argument on pretty much anything. What can average internet age Joe do exactly? not like II can say "cmon everybody lets help the tigers!" and fly my ass to India to catch poachers and destroy the deforesters camp-sites is it?

Donating money, making a huge fuss about it in the media and people with relevant experiencing going to help the cause directly are about the limit of it..

You do that. Let me know how it works out.

This can actually "work" (obviously depends on the situation) against most predators as long as they have a way to retreat and are not too hungry.
Though honestly you should not move towards it, slowly walk backwards maybe. It's basically just important that you don't flee and act loud&strange so that the tigers thinks "WTF!?":p

On the other hand, I doubt you will even have much time to react if a tiger actually has the intention to hunt you (which means he will sneak up and jump you).

Oh and I know many will think this is crazy talk, but I would really prefer to get killed by a tiger than a human (crime, car accident etc.). Aside from that you can avoid tigers and the chance a tiger decides to hunt you is smalish: at least I was killed by the fucking king of the jungle and not by some incapable idiot, asshole who wants to see me dead or a pussy with a gun in his hand. The tiger also just wants me to kill for food, I can respect that. I would even go so far to say it's kinda fair because humans as a species are weak.
Note for the stupid: that doesn't mean I want to die.

btw I just saw in the news that Putin wants to protect tigers, including hard sentences for poachers etc. Tigers might have a chance after all :lol

They only kill people if they arnt capable of hunting their natural prey, due to being old or injured as people are dumb slow and weak so easy pickings.

If tigers are too underdeveloped to survive, than nature will terminate this experiment, and make a new species that will do just that. Perhaps even more exotic!
Tigers are not underdeveloped. They're not dying because of starvation or lack of survival skills. They're actually some of the most highly developed predators in the stealth department.

They are dying because of this

and this

Destruction of forests also plays a substantial role. So don't blame Tigers for their own extinction and shift the blame from external factors. They're not fuckin dodos.

Jesus christ, I don't know what's more depressing: the fact that such a majestic species is going extinct or the many many amounts of complete utter selfish idiots in this thread. Here's something I hope some of you morons realize when you grow up: just because it doesn't affect you doesn't mean it won't affect somebody else. It's selfish nihilism of some you people that makes this world such a bad place. "It doesn't affect me so who care." So hardcore. Such rebels. Some of you don't even understand basic ecology and natural selection. God. What is happening to Neogaf...

Pretty much, They dont fuck around

Champawat Tiger

One notorious man-eating tigress, known as the Champawat Tigress, killed some 200 men and women before being driven out of Nepal. She moved to another location, this time in India, and continued to kill, bringing her total up to 436 before she was tracked down and killed in 1911.[4] She was known to enter villages, even during daylight, roaring and causing people to flee in panic to their huts.[5]

The Champawat Tigress was extremely cunning, as man-eaters usually are. She was found by Jim Corbett because he followed the trail of blood the tigress left behind after killing her last victim, a 16-year-old girl.[5] Later examination of the tigress showed the upper and lower canine teeth on the right side of her mouth were broken—the upper one in half, the lower one right down to the bone. This permanent injury, Corbett claimed, "had prevented her from killing her natural prey, and had been the cause of her becoming a man-eater."[1]

You have people in this thread saying kill the poachers, and kill the people who say they don't give a fuck about the tigers. Judging by the hyperbole yes, if they cared as much as they're pretending to, they'd jump their ass on a plane or at the very least give ten bucks a month to greenpeace. But theyll never do that because in reality they really don't care. It's no different than people crying over pollution and who won't recycle, or people botching about global warming and won't ride their bike to work, car pool, or take public transportation.

It's this fake outrage of "OMG how dare you not care about these animals as much as I do" as you sit behind a computer doing absolutely nothing, and having zero intentions of doing absolutely nothing to help. Shit i can guarantee most won't even take 15 seconds to put it on their Facebook page to raise awareness.

Why isn't poaching punishable by death for internationally recognized endangered species? Ideally with a cash reward from the WHO if you can provide evidence that they were poaching (ie. photographs, turn over their equipment) to encourage a healthy poacher hunting industry.

That sucks. I wonder if there's anything we can do to stop this, other than donate to WWF and such. Although...

Does anyone else ever think, that for humanity to start taking the preservation of endangered species seriously, we might need a martyr? Imagine if it was announced tomorrow that there are no more pandas living in the wild. The only pandas left would be the ones we've preserved by sort of deep freezing them, in zoos. The uproar would be pretty immense, I'd imagine. The extinction of a cuddly, lovable species would make it a posterboy for the effect humans are having on ecosystems. No one cares about dodos or some other species they've never heard of. I'm just wondering if that would do any help, since the way it's looking now, that situation seems pretty imminent(Not necessarily for pandas).

Hopefully, conservation attempts will prove successful, without it having to come to that. Tigers are awesome creatures, and I don't want them to go extinct, however useless and dangerous they may be.

Then why the fuck are you in this thread? If you really don't care, leave. If you want them to die out, then please offer a substantial argument.

I think it is for the Panda (or maybe lifetime imprisonment).

Is it ironic that apex predators are always the first to go when humanity starts fucking with their environment?

Untouchable kings of all they survey, until man arrives. Damn, we bad as hell.

It's too bad tigers are all in India and Asia. I have a feeling conservation efforts in either territory will be lax, at best.

Because in the countries it is happening it, they just don't care or enforce the protection in any meaningful way.

Just curious, what have you done?

I have donate money to the WWF on a constant basis. I wish I could do more at the moment but I'm been busy to do studies.

I've been studies and taking care of animals since I been a kid. Even gonna volunteer for them next year due to some connections. My main goal is to actually make it to my career and those places and help the animals in any way I can.

would it be your "favorite animal" face to face? :p
Yes. I have a fantasy of battling a tiger with my bare hands at my physical apex before my body starts to degenerate. Since I'm only 23, that won't happen.

I think the best thing for anyone to do to save the environment and endangered species is to get sterilized and refuse to propagate humanity. That's what I did.

Nonsense! Can't you feel your telomeres shortening as we speak? snip. snip. snip. That's the sound of your inevitable death nearing. you'd better fly over there right now and go fight a tiger before your body gives out on you completely.

Sadly, I think 95% of the world will not give 2 shits about tigers going extinct. Unless somehow tigers going extinct would cause the human race to go extinct, or get them fired from their job.

What, exactly, do you think happened to the dodo?
Protip: It was destruction of habitat, hunting, and introduction of other species. All by humans.

The problem was that the dodo was also too stupid and had no fear of humans, making it even easier prey. Plus they were all stuck on one island.

Damnit I hate when you post because I think I posted in my sleep or drunk or something. :lol

Sad news about the tigers.

*listens to Eye of the Tiger*

Also I just remembered my brother has an old pic of when he was little standing next to a tiger cage or something and it looks like the tiger was gonna pounce him. Scary but a cool picture nonetheless. :D
