NO! MY OS!

Wait--This isn't about 10.4, carry on being outraged about the animal.

apart from the obvious sarcasm i'm amazed that there's a number of posters here who are totally nonchalant and/or supportive of tiger extinction.

Yeah, fuck Earth. Jungles and forests and shit, we could use that for farm land, just napalm the fucking Amazon, man. Tigers are better dead and skinned and used as rugs, so fuck them too. Shit, I got mine, who gives a fuck about anything else.
:lol

Seriously. This kind of apathy will be our downfall. I'm sure of it. We are nothing more than usurpers, poachers and polluters if we can't preserve one species of beings other than ourselves.
And aliens will be fully justified to colonize us and harvest our bodies.

I understand that Midwest jerk's statement that the extinction of Tigers would very likely have little effect on our modern ecosystem and environment, based on how few their numbers currently stand.

That said, the desire to protect and preserve Earth's species is not one always borne from need, but sometimes, as in this case, human morality. You should care when any species disappears from the universe entirely, if you have emotion and empathy...which you clearly don't, so fuck off, Midwest asshole.

QFT.

Hey, lets dump toxic sludge into the amazon and club baby seals while we're at it. I mean, I live in the midwest too and those things don't affect me at all.

Yes, it does.

The Tiger is the apex predator in its eco-system. Remove it and there is nothing to keep the other animals population under control.

Ecosystems are balanced, through that balance off and everything goes to shit.

Unfortunately this isn't really true anymore because WE are the apex predator in any eco-system. :D The balance has been fucked up and getting worse since we developed the wood-chipper. lol

None of those species ever had a chance in the first place, because we are slowly killing the natural habitats anyway. The tigers and other such animals were just a smaller proportion in the first place. That is why we are seeing them go first.

the joke is one us when the Honey Bee will go extinct... like fucked royally

self entitled mid-westerners who are oblivious to the ecosystem are just that: ignorant and oblivious

I am not an asshole. Never did I say I support this extinction. How about we use some reading comprehension instead of knee-jerk criticism of anyone who's comment isn't some variation of "NNNNOOOO FUCK HUMANITY TIGERS RULE".

Someone said the extinction of tigers would affect me. ME. I explained how I believe it wouldn't affect ME. That doesn't mean I hate tigers, or see them as useless. I don't think it's "okay" from a moral standpoint to eliminate a species just because it wouldn't destroy the ecosystem. That the extinction of tigers wouldn't affect ME personally is (as far as I can tell) a GODDAMNED FACT. It is NOT some sort of anti-animal propaganda, I promise.

I never thought those huge and awesome striped cats I saw in the Zoo as a young child would ever be nearing extinction :(

No it's not. Animals go extinct. They have since the beginning. Who cares?

True. Extinction is a sad thing to be sure but its only because it's a really recognizable animal that people are reacting with shock. If this thread were about bobcats going extinct there would be a lot less tears.

I don't know how big an impact ecologically it would be to lose predators in their natural habitats. I'd be more worried about stuff like bees. :s

Most of the people living in these countries are barely making ends meet to survive themselves, the last thing on their minds is the survival of the tiger. Not to mention, tigers wander into villages for food and are often killed by humans trying to defend themselves. It really is a tough situation but depressing indeed when any animal is on the verge of extinction. I'd hate to think of a world where animals like tigers could only be seen in picture books or on video.

Of course, but who gives a goddamn fuck about whether it affects you? Do you go in every thread reporting bad news and say 'this doesn't affect me?'?

Really? You're a real jerk. The tigers wouldn't like you if they met you.
I have rarely seen you write something so childish.

good point. I wonder what it's like over there. I mean there has to be some way they can keep hundreds in a "zoo" like area and just keep producing them. It would be sad to see 10 years from now that we will never see a wild Tiger ever again. But I can totally see where these locals are coming from.

I'd say the problem is disappearing habitat more than poachers in the long run. Poachers are just accelerating the decline. I mean, you cannot repopulate where there is no where to repopulate. SE Asia is just incredibly dense population wise and there really aren't many places big enough to support a large enough population to ensure genetic diversity and optimal survival behavior.

Reading stuff like this just makes me appreciate the US national park system and the outdoors industry that allows private landowners to leave their property wild and undeveloped for hunting through licenses and fees.

As beautiful as these things are, and as sad as it is that this is being done to them. Like all predators, I won't miss them. Not for one single moment.

Are you guys doing something to help Tigers? Maybe doing something about the poor in Siberia/Kazakstan where they poach these animals?

Nah...

Personally I think they are beautiful animals, but they have no chances against human greed and indifference.

Useless things that give us food and material for clothes? All tigers do for humanity is kill us. That's not useful. I mean we can do it better.

There's roughly one tiger for every 200 million people on the planet. This is sad, yes, but the whole "disruption of the ecology" argument is silly. Tigers are too low in numbers to be keeping any other species in check. Whatever they were responsible for is either being handled by another species or is running rampant all ready. While I love tigers (they're my favorite animal) and would hate for them to go extinct, you're kidding yourself to pretend that anything drastic will happen if they go the way of the dodo. And if anyone decides to respond to this as if I'm some animal-hater who can't wait to see tigers go extinct then I hope one eats you. I'm simply stating that tigers are lovely and majestic, but almost entirely unnecessary. I really hope that these efforts are successful. I wrote a letter to the president when I was about ten years old about making efforts to preserve tigers, actually.

I mean people are complaining about the fact that tigers are predators who wouldn't hesitate to kill humans? I know there are people out there who wouldn't hesitate to kill people. Lots of people. For the most silliest if reasons, and not for food..

Yeah... some people's reasoning is kind of bizarre. I don't see how the fact that tigers are carnivores somehow deems them as 1st degree sinners that should be subjected to a swift genocide or something.

Tigers are amazing creatures. To have a world without would be a horrible shame. Fucking Humans. :(

Like all predators, I won't miss them. Not for one single moment.

So you want all of humanity to die. Because we are the single most destructive predator known to us.

Really sad, I wish there was an anti poaching sniper team that went around the world hunting poachers down. If I had billions of dollars I would probably pay some mercs to do it.

Hey, evolution made us this way. It's the way things are supposed to go. If you can't compete/survive, you get left behind. And you are replaced with something better than you.

We are the most advanced, intelligent creatures on the planet. We should be protecting and helping other animals, not killing them off one by one.
