Tim Schafer doesn't think there will be a Psychonauts 2

Source: gamefront saying it's written in the new Game Informer

Double Fine Productions' Tim Schafer said in the current issue of Game Informer that it's unlikely there will be a sequel to Psychonauts. Although he would like to spend more time with the characters he doesn't like sequels and has lots more ideas he would like to realize.

so why the fuck did he hint a sequel in the end sequence of Psychonauts?

Ok, regardless of what Schafer says a sequel to Psychonauts was unlikely seeing how poor it sells, but there was still hope :(

Maybe he thought it'd be a blockbuster? Nah, can't be that.

Awesome. Now he can get to work on a real adventure game.

Heh, a PC adventure selling more than multiconsole platformer?

Not gonna happen.

Sounds like he's just playing off how bad Psychonauts did salewise. Nothing big/new.

Has anyone broke the news to him yet about the sales numbers?

I think typhonsentra should be the one to do it. If anyone knows the ins and outs of this business, it's him.

He embezzled nearly $12 million from Microsoft. I doubt he'll ever work in this business again.

You kind of have to cite a source when making accuastions like this or else nobody is going to believe you.

Uh, aside from Day of the Tentacle which was a pseudo sequel that he only worked on half of Tim has never done one. He HATES sequels. He has always said he doesn't want to do them.

As for the ending of psychonauts, it was an ending. While yea, you could have continued it what would the 'new' story be based around? It would have had to have been some large world wide epic thing. Tim does small character based stories, not action epics.

[morons]Every open-ended ending is a hint to a sequel![/morons]

in europe yes ....but majesco dont care about us, so i dont care about majesco. >:O

Hey, Majesco stuck with a winner. It's just that the consumer has shitty taste and didn't buy it. ):

I kept on telling you guys to buy it, but you had to rely on all those reviews. Sheep.

At least it butchered the competition.

I would have said that if it sold well, they should split into two teams - one for P2, another for a new game. But with mediocre sales, there's no reason to do a P2. Fans will understand. I know I do. I just hope he'll give consoles (or even handhelds) another chance. I'm not into that whole PC thing.

Way to stick with a winner, Majesco.

Still, better than MOOOORMMMOOONNNSS INNNNN SPPAAAAAAAACCCEEEEEEE!!!

Shit, they had to give away $1,000,000 to make people play that tripe.

I disagree - at least in this particular case. You forget that PC adventure games actually sell quite well in Europe. It's a bit different here in North America, where budget adventure titles do quite well. Why do you think Dreamcatcher - The Adventure Company is still around after all these years. But even high-quality adventures do okay in North America. The Longest Journey sold fairly well, both Syberia titles sold fairly well, the Nancy Drew series sells very well game after game, and the Myst series sells very well. Believe me, they all sold much better then the pathetic numbers that Psychonauts put up on X-Box/PS2, and at a fraction of the development cost of Psychonauts.

Hell, even Grim Fandango, which was considered to have poor sales, sold considerably better than Psychonauts on X-Box/PS2. I loved Psychonauts, but I would definitely love to see Tim Schaefer get back into a PC styled adventure. He has mastered that genre to a pure artform.

That's on hold, I think. They haven't given away anything.

Did they ever give away that $15k they were offering or so for Psychotripe?

Well, Metal Gear Ac!d is lame as fuck, and Konami's still putting out a sequel. That proves sales mean nothing when it comes to sequel decisions.

If the MGA example isn't good enough, then how about everything after the first Turok? :lol

Well who do you think funded the development of this bomb before Majesco picked it up? Magic money elves... well it was MGS, so yeah, magic money elves did I guess.

MGA is a great game. Goes to show what you know. :P

Oh and if you were referring to sales, its at about 250k worldwide or more now, and it didn't cost 12 million USD to make. Probably didn't even cost 5 million.

Thanks for the verbal contribution from your ass though.

It sold like hot cakes, and proved that the Xbox fanbase goes far beyond racing games and shooters.

Metal Gear Ac!d has sold literally about 10X the amount that Psychonauts has sold, and most likely cost a huge fraction less to develop. I'd say less than 1/4th of psychonats' budget.
