It's because of Fortnite that Unreal Engine went free.Fortnite will die sooner that's the future
Aren't you...
"Anti-anti woke"? So just, "woke" then.Aren't you anti-antiwoke?
2/3 of his statement is about issues around game dev (including political stuff). But our boy men in boxes thinks he found a gotcha.
Also, he is not describing the future, he is describing the present. Nothing insightful about it.

But it's not free though unless some recent news just happened within the week. It's because of Fortnite that Unreal Engine went free.
Sounds like he is saying the future is the death of single player games.
the voice of gamers has spoken.

Tim goes into that a little bit here. (Time stamped)Why don't journalists ever try to find out how much it costs to keep a game like Fortnite running every year?
With "thousands" of devs, it sounds like it costs them over $150 million annually! How many companies on Earth have that kind of money to invest in a Live Service game per year?
Might be time to switch to PC.Well what if we don't have many friends mate?
Sacrilege imo. Single player for life or get banned for teabagging and lose your entire library. Multiplayer is too risky now that my multi thousand dollar gaming library is tied to my behavior in specific games. What if I'm just good and get mass reported? Would Sony even tell me why I was banned?
Not necessarily."Anti-anti woke"? So just, "woke" then.![]()
My joke was that using anti twice in a row cancels the word out. So "anti anti" woke simply means woke. Same as how in mathematics, using a plus two times or a minus two times together cancels the first one out.Not necessarily.
Both Woke and anti-Woke are complete morons.![]()

As someone who's trying to make an indie game, all this AI stuff feels weird. On one hand it's cool to think I'm able to generate assets like whole music tracks in a matter of seconds but fuck me if it doesn't feel dirty to use them. Like at that point, could you even say that game you've "made" is really yours? I think not.
So I really hope Tim shuts up and Valve keeps including that AI tag in the store. I want to play games made by people with passion, not slop.
I disagree with that being all that matters. When creating things there's nuance, there's the little details we include in there that reflect the soul and creativity of the person that made them. Be it when making music, 3D assets or coding gameplay mechanics you'll always come to conclusions during the creative process that will make you change what you are making based on those decisions, which could result in adding little details, chaging the pitch of an instrument or making a small adjustment on a gameplay mechanic. It's all about your taste and direction. It's your decision to pick music X instead of Y. That is what really matters at the end
Fortnite is the best example of how to make a f2p game. All other f2p games should follow it.If the future is more Fortnite experiences, I'd rather drink dirty gas station bathroom mop water.
This tells the difference between people who are there for the money, and those for which it is a passion and a learning process. Sure, you can use AI everywhere and generate all your assets. This simply means you have no interest in challenging yourself at getting better and learning how to make visuals, musics, sound effects etc... Not saying this is easy, it is already extremely challenging for me to do all of this myself on an 8 bits system... but well, at some point, why are you making a game ? There should be a physics tag as well. Game devs should animate hair and clothes by themselves instead of relying on the engine. This tells the difference between people who are there for the money, and those for which it is a passion and a learning process. The world is going to get flooded by AI generated content anyway, because it will make $$$. Doesn't mean everyone has to follow.
Good point. Also a specific tag when they are using a shitty engine. There should be a physics tag as well. Game devs should animate hair and clothes by themselves instead of relying on the engine.
Not a tag....it has an "AI generated content disclosure". I dont see whats wrong with it. Just keep it and if people are interested they can ask what exactly has been AI generated. Also it makes games being done without AI maybe more interesting to some folks. Just taking it away seems to be very narrow minded and negligent. But I clearly understand why Sweeney is saying such things.Does Arc Raiders have an AI tag?
Tim's an hypocrite. He want's to normalize AI use so he can save a few million dollars but at the same time, he doesn't want for anyone to find out.Not a tag....it has an "AI generated content disclosure". Always was. This guy is changing his stance/opinions like others their underwear. Zero respect for such people.Tim's an hypocrite.
AI should be normalized, it's a tool like any other. Complaining about AI in games is the new complaining about CG in movies.Tim's an hypocrite. He want's to normalize AI use so he can save a few million dollars but at the same time, he doesn't want for anyone to find out.
I already lost any respect for him when they delisted Unreal from all stores. This just cementes my opinion on him being a total hack.
No big deal, gaming stores are already filled with sholveware, especially Steam. The future of gaming is AI churning out endless slop trinkets to sell dopamine hits to the retards who play live games. Insanely grim, at least we have old games.
So, complaining about something that makes the final product worse? Glad to see we agree for once.AI should be normalized, it's a tool like any other.

No, skilled artists use it to make things better. So, complaining about something that makes the final product worse? Glad to see we agree for once.
Normalizing AI will open the floodgates to tons of poorly made low effort crap filling the digital stores. That's not good for you nor me.
Oh yeah and I'm fine with that. But both you and me know that they aren't using it as a tool but as a complete replacement. Just look at the last Call of Duty game and all the slop assets with 0 effort put into them, or at how much Windows 11 sucks because of all the "vibe-coded" features. No, skilled artists use it to make things better.
And it will only get much, much worse unless they keep tagging them as AI content and people are able to filter them out."Normalizing AI will open the floodgates to tons of poorly made low effort crap filling the digital stores."
It's already like this, Steam have dozens of thousands of shovelware.
Naw, he can always play on EGS with Tim's personally curated amazing games only catalogue, same way he solved this problem with gaming he will solve every other one too so we should totally follow all he spews as the one truth.Oh yeah and I'm fine with that. The tag just gives you more information about the product you are buying. There is absolutely no incentive for anyone to take it away again...unless you want to actively hide the use of it.No, skilled artists use it to make things better.

They better play them fast, you never know when uncle Tim might unlist another one of his games!Naw, he can always play on EGS with Tim's personally curated amazing games only catalogue, same way he solved this problem with gaming he will solve every other one too so we should totally follow all he spews as the one truth.
He thinks nothing about art, it's all about money for those people.I love how he says it has a place in art exhibits, guess we know what he thinks about games as art at this moment too.
And to no one's surprise, hand-drawn movies still look absolutely wonderful and stunning this day. CG movies are soulless compared to masterpieces such as the old Disney movies or Ponyo, to name only one movie from Miyazaki.Complaining about AI in games is the new complaining about CG in movies.
