I'm going to be on the road for the next 12 weeks doing some promotional work, touring Texas, Oklahoma, Tennesee, and Louisiana. My current digital camera is little more than garbage. It sucks up 4 AA's in about a half hour, it sucks, and it was a gift from my dad about 3 years ago (I believe he bought it at CostCo for $100 at the time). I hate the damn thing.

Anyone have suggestions for kick-ass digital cams for under/around $300?

hmmm, that price range isnt my forte. but i'd suggest going w/ either a sony or a canon around that range. w/ canons you usually get the best image quality and good controls. sonys might auto focus faster and you also get great image quality.
check out the canon A series, like A70/75/80.

Thanks for that listing.. Damn, I hate camera shopping... There are waaaaaay too many options. I think I'll most likely get a Canon per suggestion. I just need something small.

You really can't go wrong with Canon - A series looks to fit your requirements.
If you wanna go supercompact, you can try finding a previous version's (still good) Digital Elph.

Of course, other companies make great cameras too, namely Nikon, Pentax, Casio, Sony, Fuji, Olympus, and Konica-Minolta.
