what the... what was the answer to 1.8? I was just making random guesses and checking back to see what people had said here and all of a sudden I'm on 1.09?? whatd I type? O_o

oh.. I realize what the answer to 8 is.

Its just like 1.02 (except in english this time) where some letters are messed up.

bigger spoiler:

whats somethign that could be done to a book to make it more valuable

1.03:

Okay, so I understand the concept of what I'm supposed to do. I just don't know what colors I'm supposed to mix, and if I'm even doing it right. Is it supposed to be magenta, red and green because of the clothes the characters are wearing? And if so, I'm mixing them (don't know if I"m doing it properly, though) in MS Photodraw and coming up withs some weird version of orange.

WTF?

1.03:

the picture has nothing to do with, the names of the colors have nothing to do with it. You have a nice box with just enouch pixels to show a letter. Imagine 'turning down' a color and seeing something different in the same box.

That carrot book one is bad, but doable.

think of the fire comment, and think of an adjective of something that's been burned, and think of something that's spelled similarly that would be a good kind of altered condition for the book.

There are AMPLE five-letter words beginning with AM that fit. I'm quite AMPED up over how many of them I managed to find. So much so that I'm going to AMBLE over to the fridge and get me a beer.

dictionary.com denies you in saying that amped is a word ;P

but now that kills my use of the LE for APPLE >_<

Okay, I fucking give up. Plus, if that's how you're supposed to get the answer, that's pretty fucking lame. And is it supposed to be "a letter" or three letters like someone said a couple pages back?

if one were to look at only the pixels that contain red in them vs those that don't, one would see this:
xooox
oxxxo
ooooo
oxxxo
oxxxo

Going back to my notes for that one, I have another use for the AP.

AP-R-ON

Do you mean 'A'? Because I'm submitting that and getting nothing.

Demon,
if you had a set of 3D glasses you might be able to figure out most of 1.03, and what you have to do to solve it

Well, if you have enough knowledge about color channels, you could probably do it without the help of an outside program. Anyway, if you stick through it, get used to using multiple outside resources. Most people don't have the innate knowledge and ability needed to solve most of these puzzles by simply looking at them.

Edit:

1.09:
I think I have the string that fits

FI_ED
CH_ME
BA_ON
TA_ES
CH_IR
AP_ON
SW_RM
AM_LE
SP_ON

I've been able to find words for all of them in this setup, but of course, the problem is that there are multiple words. :) If this is correct, I should just have to figure out what words are actually correct.

demon-
A is one of the 3 letters. there exist 2 more letters to figure out in the same manner. what letter do you see if you compare blue pixels to non blue pixels as I did for red?

Any other hints for 1.8? I do not know any book conditions.

say a book were worth... oh... $50. What could one do to make it worth a lot more? Whats something, anything, that might suddenly make it worth like $80?

if you still can't get it:

what could one similarly do to say... a baseball card?

Destroy every other copy in existence? :P Put it in plastic? If that is it, then wth is the term?

I wish I could show you a sign, but you're just going to have to look for it yourself this time. ;)

Heh, I was looking over 1.04, and then I just about gave up and put in some crap answer, and alt-tabbed over here to look for hints (before the page refreshed), but I then tabbed back over for a moment, and it was on 1.05.

for 9 the tubes are supposed to line up right?

in other words:

as soon as I commit to apron, since AP is directly across from ON, all other words must match up from those direction across from them as well right? So I haven't yet thought about combining SW and ES, but if indeed apron is correct, SW and ES must connect?

OMFG Finally I have 1.03!!!

Demon,
start up paint and play around with the three base colors, you'll see it then.

I'm pretty sure that's how it works, but I wouldn't qualify it with that combination, considering there are three ONs. Try something less likely. Like, as far as I can tell, FI can only be reasonably combined with ES or ED. Therefore, I would try the two strings where FI lines up with ES and ED. I can't blame you for being confused, though. I'm having a lot of trouble visualizing this puzzle, myself.

Belfast:
Yes, you have the right arrangement. The really tricky one to get is TA_ES, IMO - too many possibilities.

Bah, I will quit on 8. Funny, 1.8 is where i stopped on PD3.

Why quit? You people have no sense of dedication! Just rest for awhile then come back to it later. No reason to stumble on one puzzle then not give the rest a shot just because you couldn't get it the first time you looked at it.

Still, I practically gave you the answer. :)

this is what I have so far for 9, is it at least close?

FINED
CHIME
BACON
TALES
CHAIR
APRON
SWARM
AMPLE
SPOON

edit: I'm beginning to fear the 9 letter words are outside of my vocabulary =\

Quit as in stop for now. I totally forgot about PD3. I never even tried PD1 or PD2, might try them in the mean time.

Edit:
why the hell would anyone think of a signed cookbook?

some people take their cooking seriously? I dunno.. I'm sure there are famous cooks out there who sign their books.

lol. oh, ok. :)

Well, at least you are completely giving up.

slayn:
seems about right, but there are multiple letters that can fit in the center space for some of those words. I'm wondering, though, once you have that sorted, are the letters in correct order? Or is it a scrambled word that you have to figure out? In other words, will the answer be perfectly clear once the five-letter words are correctly figured out?

my understand (if they aren't gay and actually make this so the whole tube thing would work, is any letter could be the first letter fo the long word, but once you pick a start letter you have to follow the rest of the letters linearly. However, I keep toying witht he middle letters and I can't get anythign that even remotely comes close to looking like a word.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be scrambled, but I was kind of thinking along the same lines - in the sense that I was wondering if it would start at the top or some other point on the tube and then continue from there. Now that I can finally visualize the puzzle (I was thinking it was cut long-ways), it makes a lot more sense.

is iapetus the only thats gotten 9? this 9 letter word is like... a normal word right? not some weird ass word nor some british word?
