Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Technical Test Impressions (XB1/PS4)

Another complaint that I haven't seen mentioned but they need to give you a head start on your titan meter if you get thrown into a match already in progress. TF1 did this.
 
Did this actually ever happen in other games before? For sequel to have maps from previous games. I never really played multiplayer shooters other than Titanfall.

Plenty of times, especially as DLC. Call of Duty and Battlefield both do it--usually with some overhauls to visuals or small design changes to better fit the new game.

The bigger issue is spawning me into the middle of a fucking field with two enemy titans right there.

I'd rather they fix their spawn system to not have me killed right when I spawn first. But yes, they need to give you some Titan credit in these cases as well.
 
I think I'm warming up to the game. It's not the pure fun of Titanfall, but there are great moments, like swinging around with your grappling hook.
I'm still annoyed by the very scripted Bounty Hunter mode, dont like the outlining of characters (instead of looking for their jetpack flames), and am not too fond of the maps (I guess I'm not familiar with them, but I keep getting lost and bumping into dead ends).

But give me an attrition mode and I may consider buying it. :)

That's a good point. The spawns are pretty bad right now. I haven't played a ton of matches and several times I've been killed within seconds of spawning. That almost never happened in TF1. The maps are big enough and it's only 6 vs 6. You shouldn't be spawned right next to the enemy.
 
Btw we had a strange bug today, during the first wave of Bounty Hunt one grunt seemed to have disappeared from the map but was still counted as alive. So the wave wouldn't end and we were just shooting at each other waiting for the timer to end...
 
I'm garbage at this game (original and 2), but have somehow been scrapping together first or second place on my teams, so, some thoughts:

1) Increased Titan presence definitely helps. The fact that they were so seldom seen pre-patch seemed ridiculous, given how present they are in T1.

2) The maps are still junk? I'm actually OK with Kodai, though the huge area up top for campers is a bummer. Homestead is infuriatingly bad, but what can you do.

3) Hook should absolutely be a thing for all characters, and not just a perk. As hard as it is to keep a line going with wallruns on these maps, the hook is absolutely essential.

4) To their credit, movement feels a bit better, and that slide is super satisfying.

5) That said, the dumbing down of rodeos is a huge disappointment. The battery system is OK, and makes more sense now than there are more Titans on the field, but fuck, it doesn't begin to compare to the excitement of the original system. And ejections are still not nearly as cool as OG T1.

All that said, I'm back on the fence, after thoroughly being on the "off" side after week one. It's definitely no Titanfall, but for what it is, it's sorta OK? Sorta fun? Just, goddamn. I wish it were more like Titanfall proper.
 
So I spent a good hour playing this.

RENOVE THE FUCKING BATTERY SHIT. THIS IS DUMB AS FUCK. LET ME SHOOT THEM LIKE THE FIRST ONE.
 
I say let people shoot or steal the battery.

There's something satisfying about hopping on a Titan, pulling out at weapon and destroying something.

But right now stealing batteries is effortless and not fun. Make the battery stealing process more involved and give players the option to shoot the battery, to destroy a Titan's shield.
 
The batteries are fine, but they could replace the grenade tossing with the old shooting at the innards.
 
The battery system is more interesting in my opinion.

It's interesting if your writing your thesis paper on how to move batteries from one place to another in the most asinine way.


You should be able to sacrifice your rappel line, and hook Titans to other objects, making them immobile until the break it.
 
Yeah the UI is still rather bad here. Half the time I don't know a lot of what is coming up or going on compared to 1.

Yeah, UI is definitely to messy. They did say it's being tweaked though it's not part of the improvements to this weekend's test.

Managed to unlock the hover ability, second SMG and the cloak.

Not used to the hover yet but managed to get a double kill while in midair. I gather, enemies must have been caught by surprise. Hahaha! Used the cloak class and had two Titans chasing around trying to find me while I was shooting at them and tossing flashbangs. It was a funny sight sinceI kept hiding in trees and they couldn't find me. Still miss the grappling hook though.
 
Yeah, I'm 50/50 on the new rodeo system. I can see how the battery system adds a new dynamic to things, sure. But I fucking hate how automated it all is. Just give me the option to go out, guns a-blazing, shooting a titan's core.

I forgot to add that I cannot fathom for the life of me how they thought to go with 3rd person embarking/melee animations. Maybe the latter, OK, but the former is incredibly jarring, and such a tremendous downgrade from running between a titan's legs and being scooped up into it from the first person. Completely breaks the immersion (that was already sorta ruined by the lack of music/video feed from intel/etc. etc.)
 
the problem with the old rodeo is that a veteran player would just put the titan's back on a wall and activate the smoke. It is impossible for the pilot to escape
 
Why are my teammates so baddd.

Any good/competent gaffers want to send me their psn id? You dont have to be the best, just know what youre doing
 
This sucks. I'm depressed. Titanfall 1 was my favorite shooter ever. This feels nothing like it. I really hope they delay or do something drastic, otherwise this game isn't for me.
 
New rodeo problem solved one problem while creating more.

Of they removed the whole mechanic about healing/needing battery to get shields I'd be fine with it.
 
I find that the problem with map design is that they were designed around the grappling hook and not the actual movement system of the game.

Basically I'm saying unless they delay the game another year to make a whole new set of maps, we are totally screwed.
 
The battery mechanic just doesn't flow with the rest of the game. The game is suppose to be fast and flowing. The battery mechanic really impedes this, you have to find an enemy Titan, get up there, get the battery, the find a damaged Titan on your team, get up there and then pop it in. It's not quick, and it's time consuming. You focus less on the action and more on trying to aid someone.
The original rodeo was great.
 
So after using the Alternator it's clear it serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever. The CAR demolishes it in every situation. Whats it useful for Respawn? Am i using it wrong? ROF seems WAY too slow. The TTK seems much quicker with the CAR up close and the CAR has much better accuracy allowing it to dominate at range as well. Bummed. It's a cool looking little firearm.
 
I love the camp the bank mode so much :/. Play well, get camp killed, lose half of progress for 5 minutes in 4 seconds

This will actually make removing a pilot more fun. Right now it's so easy to get onto a Titan, that when you're in a Titan you just accept that they're going to steal the battery, do the nade and hope you can get them when they hop off.

It's not a fun game of cat and mouse this time bc electric smoke on the Titan doesn't work well and the grapple makes it too easy to get onto you. Also the rodeo is quick as hell and it automatically ejects you, making it easy for you to kill someone who actually gets out of a Titan.

Currently, there's just too much of an advantage for the Pilot
 
I'm not super impressed with the "beta" as it stands. Sadly, I don't think it will be a day one purchase. I'm not happy with the map design, even the map they added in weekend two is meh. Plus, I want Attrition back!

Played the new map just to see if it was any different from the other two. Nope. The drop in quality and change in direction in gameplay means I won't be getting this game. Being so disappointed, first by Bungie with Destiny; and now Respawn after loving Modern Warfare and Titanfall so much is really bumming me out. Hopefully DICE can give me something besides Halo 5 and Titanfall to shoot stuff in because every other multiplayer shooter has been a dud this gen.
 
I think there biggest problem in there right now is the absorb amount of aim assist which trivializes movement.

Reduce that and the game will be much more mobile, even on these maps.

I don't know why people even allow a pilot to do this. As soon as they come on the first time leave the Titan and kill them mid animation. And for a bonus you get a free battery and heal.

At times it's just like the issue they mentioned when doing the battery system instead of shield for TF1. Unless my team is already dominating the Titan game, I'm all fucked up going into the next fight. Then 2-3 Titans beat my ass and next thing you know the other team has a major Titan advantage.
 
Make the battery thing less terrible, bring back Attrition, and I might be in. The Titan cooldown adjustment made a huge difference. Turns out Titanfall is only fun when titans exist. Weird...

it was the least popular mode in titanfall 1 by far, mind boggling that they are pushing it it this time...
