Titanfall has maximum player count of 12 (alongside AI) [Respawn comments post #558]

most online games I have seen don't even have 6 vs 6 players in most matches. people making a big deal out of this have ulterior motives i believe.

The gameplay shows that, but nothing is explained by someone who is talking over the gameplay like a walkthrough with a developer.

So everyone is suppose to watch the video and count every player?

A

Bigger question is why everyone assumed it would be 12v12 or something, when Call of Duty is really 6v6, Killzone is 7v7, Halo is traditionally 4v4 etc. Why did everyone assume it would be 'our version of Battlefield'.

If anything, the fast movement, tight gameplay, on map drops, choke points, meant it would be smaller team sizes. If it plays as good as it looks, this is a game that will appeal to competitive players and teams as well.

Nope. Everyone gets a titan, no waiting your turn or being blocked by other people. No shenanigans.

Can't wait to see matches full of 12 Titans duke it out, with players jumping in and out to throw rockets at enemy Titans.

Will be insanity

Yeah, I did, because I'm excited about the game and I wanted to learn as much I could gather from what they've shown us.

I suppose lazier people can wait for a simple tweet from Zampella, but then if you pre-ordered the game without really knowing anything about it, you only have yourself to blame.

Well I'm talking the masses, not everyone just on this forum, not everyone is you. Published information is published information. I mean this by promotional material that get's sent out to Best Buy's, Gamestops for preorders stuff like that.

The people who casually walk in, or casually play a online shooter are not counting players, from a youtube video.

You are in the minority. Plus who is to say those videos were for promotional only, player count could have been larger, but for conventional purposes, they used 6v6.

6v6 is a somewhat meaningless number until I get my hands on the game. That said, I can understand if you have more then 6 friends you regularly play with(I do) that it is a little disappointing in that aspect. As long as the gameplay does well with 6v6 though that is all I care about. Some of the things people are asking for make me wonder why they are not playing Tribes, that game is amazing.

Maybe a bit too excited to expect people to know about player counts before the devs confirm it.

So, one twitter from a fan asked a more relevant question than all the gaming media together since the game was announced.

I never assumed that, assuming is not the way. Plus I'm also talking in a general sense about information on the game in general. From modes, to player count, on disc content, how many maps, custom matches.

There is nothing, and like I posted above, where are the screenshots, footage of actual Xbone, 360 VERSIONS.

What graphical options are there?

2 months away and we really know nothing. We should know almost everything, minus maybe DLC content.

We should know upgrade system.

No body is asking these questions, IGN did today because of the bitching this thread has made.

I am reserved and worried, no one in the history of release's waits this long to distribute information, unless there are problems and uncertainty going around.

I just don't see why it has to be 6v6 and then add AI, instead of whatever the AI total is, allowing those to all be players. That's the only thing that bothers me. So say 10v10 with no AI

I'm sure they know what they are doing though

Why should you know any of this stuff? They dont have to reveal anything (though they probably will). Most GTA games show a few screen shots and then a small trailer before they come out and they are no lesser for it.

AI soldiers can't wall-run, double-jump, or call down Titans. They serve a different purpose, that's why they're specifically not being called bots by the devs.

Wrong, they showed tons of footage slowly, revealing more, all the way up to release. The only thing that was very vague about GTA V was the online because it wasn't finished and came out at a later date.

So wait, counting players in a video is normal and people who don't are "lazy"?

WTF are you smoking?

If you're interested enough in the game to pre-order it, but easily disinterested enough to consider cancelling the pre-order over something as simple as a player count, I think you're being pretty lazy by not doing due diligence enough to carefully look over the easily accessible media material.

CoD has a higher maximum player count than 12.

It's also a different game, but their most popular and base gameplay is team deathmatch which is 6v6 last I checked.

Its simple, they just didn't want more players. And so now they've designed their maps, spawn points, weapon drops, titan gameplay around only 6 people on each side maximum. Not every game needs to have options for 1-64 players at a time. More choice doesn't always mean a better experience.

Everyone's who has played the game, said it was amazing.

There was no way for for anyone to find out the maximum players in titanfall no matter how much they were interested though.

I agree, I'm fine with the number of players and if they designed it right as you said, it's not going to feel like a lesser game solely on player count. But I also think it's reasonable that people expected more.

Maybe i'm wrong but I only remember a massive trailer very close to release that actually revealed stuff and then huge hype articles by sites. And then Hype reviews.

Anyways im sure in the next month or so the marketing will kick in and everyone can find a billion other things to bitch about.

I gotcha. I don't necesarrily like that idea, but it must work if they are going with it in their final product. I'll save my judgement until I play it obviously.

But seriously watching a video and counting how many people are on screen is inaccurate for the reason I stated previously, could be custom match just for Promotional purposed at conventions.

You want official news, offcial from Developers in the form of an Interview Video, or an article in a game magizine. Promotional facts from preorder shops.

Not counting players in a video that doesn't show the server hud with teams, No they show players in a match, where it's hard to distinguish bot from actual player.

Yea your right people are so lazy.

Well, it's definitely "lazier". :P

But yea, that's not to be expected. I didn't expect Titanfall to be a large-scale Battlefield-esque game, but despite seeing a decent amount of footage from it, I also didn't know 6v6 was the limit. The thing is though, I haven't got a pre-order for Titanfall, even though I'll probably pick it up. If someone is going to drop money on a game before it's released, they should probably learn at least a bit about what they're buying. You couldn't say for certain what the player limit was from what had been shown, but you'd sure as hell know it isn't Battlefield. You'd also know about the inclusion of AI units.

Then Multiplayer Tease:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wSrjYdEgQg

This was second week of August, with gaming arriving on store shelved September 21 I think.

GTA V is mostly Single player game from an established franchise, we know there will be car jacking, blowing crap up, a long story, side missions.

We know nothing about actual Multiplayer in Titanfall and we are 2 months away from release. The game is an unproven IP, and is multiplayer only so, shouldn;t that infor already be out in the wild?

The fuck? How about the devs let on some more info about what modes there will be and how the actual games play. Did you just tell people to order off of what is presented in a trailer? I can't name you maps beyond Angel City. I can't name you Titans past the three that have been revealed. I can tell you the names of some of the weapons, but only because I saw a recording of the video they were showing at the demo booth.

For a game roughly two months away, they haven't shown all that much.

Counting players or not from game footage, no one in his right mind would have ever thought this game was going to be 64 players battlefield-style.

This was IGN's brief for the game for the longest time:

Titanfall's Multiplayer has been confirmed with new gameplay footage at Microsoft's E3 press conference. It will support 64 players on Xbox One and PC. No details have been announced for the Xbox 360 version, but it most likely will not support 64 players.

They changed it as of the tweet. Not nearly enough of the game was shown to guess at the number of players it would support.

Yeah, I did, because I'm excited about the game and I wanted to learn as much I could gather from what they've shown us.

Nope, I sure didn't.

You're right. Just claimed they were lazy and not doing their due diligence if they weren't scouring over trailers, counting players. Gotcha.

A big thing in this topic are the defenders ignorantly saying how bad bigger maps and more players are and that only the cool kids will "get" 6v6 like some sort of douchebag elitist club or something.

Disgusting.

Thanks for chiming in, on what I was trying to prove to Antitrope.

Read the replies to my quote.

Fair points everyone. I guess we'll have to see if the 6v6 actually makes any sense. I still feel it's too low.

This game needs way more players to be a day 1 buy. Right now, I'm waiting. I'm not feeling this 6v6.

I feel that 6v6 is a cop out - I wish it was 12 v 12. That would be awesome. This just seems lame.

I'm a no buy at the moment.

I wanna see a 24 player game designed around teams of two.

"That the best you've got?"...

I gave reasons for why I believe lower player count multiplayer games are better, especially for shooters. Nothing douchey or ignorant about it. Larger maps means less map control, less emphasis on specific encounter areas and choke points, less players means greater emphasis on each individual player and for the team together. It allows for better team play and coordination, better player feedback and engagement etc. With larger maps and more players, it's also harder to create meaningful spawn points since at any given time you could have 12 enemy players over the map, as opposed to 5.

Smaller player counts also lead to more competitive matches and play. Its why 1v1, 2v2, 4v4 was so watched in Halo. And why why MLG Halo was 4v4.

Now some are saying why isn't the option for larger matches there. I say because they didn't want them. Why give an option for something you don't want? They said it best, if you want the numbers game, go play a game that has it, ie. Battlefield. With less focus on a ton of playlists and player counts, Respawn can focus their efforts without worrying about supporting playlists and maps to fit 1-32/64 players.

You know

The more I think about it the more I realize the bots are probably just cannon fodder for people that are probably doing bad or want that instant gratification of feeling like they are "on a roll" or "unstoppable". I guess it was kind of known that was the point of it, but it just hit me that they are the makers of CoD after all. They know what people want psychologically, MW2 and it's "here is everything, go nuts" style shows it.

EDIT:I literally butchered this entire post.

Fucking mobile man....

Well I prefer a minimum of 8v8 since I have 7 buddies that play shooters too. So unfortunately we probably won't be grabbing this one on Origin when it's released. Maybe the 2nd one will have more players.

Why would they show a lot during the launch madness and the holidays? Bad marketing; you get lost in the noise. The blitz is coming.

... You and your friends who love shooters, would rather skip the game because you ALL cannot play together at the same time, rather than play it and take turns switching up teams or having a few people sit out at times? Do all 8 of you play at the same time every day, and always 8 together?
