Titanfall has maximum player count of 12 (alongside AI) [Respawn comments post #558]

You can't please everybody, but you can give them options. 12v12, 10v10, etc... at least having more options will please the majority of people. I don't see the maps being so small that they can't at least 4 more people in there.

I kind of wonder if Respawn is holding some things back.

Assuredly there will be other modes. Even such modes that turn off Titans of bots and just allow for 10v10 deathmath or something similar.

Totally awesome news 6vs6. I hate MPs like battlefield..just doesnt suit my taste.

Now all I want to know if there is split-screen or not..that is all.

I think that's reasonable. Having a 8 vs. 8 or 10 vs. 10 but with no Titans sounds fine.

Having 16 Titans around would almost certainly be too much. Clusterfuck City.

Does every human player have a titan to call down (global cool-down) and when its taken out a cool down. Also, I want to hear more of the weapons of each of the classes and how the synergy is suppose to work.

Apparently all the players can have their Titans on the map at one particular time frame. So it can turn into a 12 vs. 12 match of sorts, and that's not including the bots. I'm sure some of the matches can get crazy as fuck.

Few claim it, but the devs keep touting verticality as one of the key features of the game. That still does not excuse the small player count, if anything that means there should be more players as they can on multiple planes.

You don't know how its going to work because you aren't one of the developers, nor have you played the game. You still have to design the game around those player counts. Plus there's the fact Respawn is trying to integrate singleplayer and multiplayer elements together. They haven't confirmed any traditional multiplayer modes at all.

The last time the developers mentioned verticality in an article was last year on September 30th. This isn't like MW2 where it was thrown around like a buzzword. Characters can run along walls, climb them, and fly with jetpacks. The player characters need this mobility to be able to compete with the Titans. Yes, it was used poorly in MW2, but this is not that game so it shouldn't be treated like it.

Sounds fun. Then it comes down to interesting maps and balanced weapons to me. I'm just worried about the "need" for the mech. All the videos I've seen are of people taking them out pretty handily. I hope they play a tactical role. And I still don't know all the different play types for the matches. Could be a good mix of TDM, SDM, and Capture the flag, or Objective based.

And FYI, for amount of stuff happening at once in a map you'll be hard pressed to find a game that keeps the action higher. I literally have to stop playing every few rounds because my heart just can't take it some times.

did your hands shake as you held the controller? x)

10 years ago, if you told any gamer that an AAA multiplayer FPS would feature a ground shattering 6v6 complemented with bots, they would just laugh at you for the absurdity.

Now, I'm not sure whether I ought to laugh or cry.

Part of the issue I'm seeing is that the maps have to be able to have fun gameplay without any Titans on the map so a traditional map size oriented around 6 vs 6. However it also needs to be able to support all the players having their Titans in AI mode and the players running around, which can turn it into a 12 vs 12 fight. So the maps have to be larger than a traditional multiplayer map but also small enough to support only player vs player combat.

The problem I can see with anything above 6 vs 6 is that the maps would then become too large for just player combat or if they're on the smaller side, they just become one huge clusterfuck during the more hectic matches.

I don't know if I can trust Respawn(old IW) they said the same thing about IW.net on MW2 for PC. Gonna hold off till more info comes out.

Antitrop, what happened to the other creator of Call of Duty?

Jason West left Respawn in March of 2013, just a few months before the grand unveiling of the game at E3. He cited "family issues".

Jason has left Respawn to take care of some family issues. We have worked together on some amazing accomplishments over the years, starting with an early Segasoft project that never shipped. It is sad to see things come to an end, but there are times when change is best for growth, both personally and professionally. I wish Jason the best and send my best wishes to his family. Respawn continues to amaze me, the team here is resilient and talented. E3 will be therapeutic for us, as we finally get to start showing our work again. I know the team was excited about the response we got from just admitting we were going to attend.

A bit disappointed, but that's just because I gravitate towards large-scale online shooters.

I'm sure Titanfall will find a large target market for 6v6, but I wouldn't consider myself part of that market.

No point complaining until you give it a play. Maybe the maps aren't large enough to sustain a high rate of action without turning into a giant clusterfuck. I just think of how a map like Strike at Karkhan sometimes turned into a giant turkeyshoot, and think that sometimes you can have too many players on a map. PEACE.

The fact remains, CoD4 elevated console FPS gaming into the stratosphere. MW2 (while I disliked it) was another huge success. Respawn is built by guys who know how to make a popular multiplayer shooter, end of story.

Now, that isn't a guarantee Titanfall will rock, it's just more likely than not.

Did anyone catch ReviewTechUSA's video about this topic. NeoGAF got a mention......not a favorable one either(Even the thumbnail for the video was a roasting/burn of some sorts).

PS: I would have made a separate topic but I'm still a petty junior.

Skimmed through the thread. Can someone inform me on whether or not there'll be a Groundwar gametype that's 9v9 like in CoD?
Its a 6vs6 online shooter feature NPC AI and giant mechs, it will not be like your favorite CoD mode.

You cant judge anything without playing it. It can turn out to be good or bad. One thing is smaller number of players turns into a more competitive therefore enjoyable FPS game, which is what I want and what Titanfall reminds me of. Titanfall reminds me of the old school Tribes for PC, which was competitive. The most competitive FPS games from the original Rainbow 6 on PC which had ladders, Halo, Counter Strike, Tribes, had a small amount of players with a strong emphasis on tight teamwork and communication with strategies. It becomes harder to do this when it becomes larger in player size. I hope Titanfall is aiming for this

That's an odd quote, to say someone has left to take care of family issues then immediately go into how 'change is good for growth both personally and professionally'.

Anyways.. Drama.

6v6 sounds good to me. Most hardcore matches are rarely ever above 6v6, most are 4v4.

I do occasionally enjoy a big team match though. The best big team match experience i've ever had was on games of ShadowRun. God i love that game.

I think this guy does a really great job of explaining some specifics about Titanfall that many people don't know, yet. Even I learned a few things from this, and I've been obsessively poring over every detail in the gameplay demos that I can find. It's about 15 minutes and totally worth a watch.

Great video, some intriguing things i never knew such as cloaking, electric smoke and the hacking tool, cant to wait to see some more promo videos.

I had no idea about marvins :)

Yeah, will be interesting to se what role they play but being able to run around hacking the Marvins could shift the battle in your favour if you time it right.

Amazing vid. Did not know about what happens during the end of the match. Great idea. It turns into a different game there just for that segment. Can't wait for this game.

Yeah that was something I had no idea about. Seems pretty cool. Am also really interested to see what the campaign multiplayer is like.

Isn't it weird that we had to watch a video non affiliated to Respawn to find out more information about the game? Isn't that the job of, I don't know...the PR?

I think one of the main reasons this thread spiralled as it did is a general lack of understanding of how the game actually works. 6 x 6, how are we supposed to know how that fits into the overall battle? I'm not surprised at peoples reaction, it was coming from a place of confusion. I'd just presumed the other characters on screen where players, now finding out that they're AI, how does that work? Are they purely there to guide you from point to point and feed you story or do they actually help out?

It's released in 3 months and all I knew was from the trailers they'd shown and tidbits of news - everyone has their own mech to call in,'Titans', which are not killstreak based. Singleplayer Multiplayer. Wall Running and Jetpacks. That's it. Initial impressions looked cool but now we're kind've getting into the nitty gritty I feel they should release a trailer with more detailed info if indeed this is a new beast of its own. Don't blame people for getting the wrong end of the stick when you haven't even shown them the whole...stick.

I mean theres keeping some discoverability to the game and then theres just plain old being quiet. I feel like there hasn't been anything substantial from the official source since the initial reveal and then some other Titan variants at VGX.

Ok i actually didn't read the answers in the first few pages, holy shit this thread is one of the worst i've ever seen on gaf lol

10 years ago people were playing Halo 2 which other than BTB was mostly big on 4v4 slayer matches. Also weren't games like Quake an Unreal still fairly popular at that time, i do remember huge battles in any of those titles either. Honestly this is the first time i have even seen low player count come up as a complaint up till now.

We've known there would be AI on the battlefield with you since the very beginning. That is not new news.

You can sometimes blame the ignorance of consumers on the product developer, but the reactions in this thread go waaay beyond that. This thread has to be one of GAF's serious lowpoints in recent history.

We can build a nice blacklist and ignore list from this thread.
Everyone got out of their caves for this.

But yeah, so shameful it even got on other Gaming websites :/

I do hope they actually pull off this multiplayer campaign isn't just competitive games but with cut-scenes because telling me to hold A, B, and C and see a bar filling up will break the immersion.
