Titanfall has maximum player count of 12 (alongside AI) [Respawn comments post #558]

Meh, I guess

I mean it could all be a vast Doritos conspiracy. Perhaps Ballmer is sitting somewhere in Microsoft HQ like Emperor Palpatine waiting for their insidious plan to sell Titanfall to reach fruition. I just haven't heard from anyone who got to play the game suggesting that the game is anything less than excellent.

I honestly still can't tell if you're trolling but assuming you're not: Nothing other than the bolded is a verifiable fact.

Everything else you mentioned is pure speculation and conspiracy theory on your part and really doesn't merit a response. Also, you are aware this game isn't coming to PS4 right?

Now who's speculating?

You can't call me out for my "facts" and then post your "facts". That's not how this works.

So show me proof, like I did.

It is amazing how negative people on GAF can be at times. I mean, I understand how people love large scale battle but it only works when everything is designed around that concept. If they have a specific size in mind, obviously they are going to design the stages around that size and play test it alot.

This is one of those things where it is just silly to complain about a studio filled with established designers making a choice that they feel will work.

Guys, I have the best idea for a game here it is (patent pending, don't take pls.)

Best Game Ever Feature List:
- Infinite stuff.
- Infinite things.
- All of the players.
- Endless graphics.

Why hasn't anyone thought of this? More = better. Everyone knows this. Gameplay designers must be sitting there just drooling into their keyboards all day trying to come up with peasant concepts like "gun play" and "balance".

And that's why so many games struggle, why so many games have trouble with budgets or keeping players entertained, they try a jack of all trades, master of none mentality. People want every kind of shooter experience in this game, rather than a singular tight and focused style of gameplay.

Many of these folks wanting 12v12 or higher, they haven't even really thought about map sizes, map control, team play, player engagement or player spawns.

I might have to double check but i think that we were 48 People in the room per session. At first i thought it was gonna be 24 v 24 but they had 2 matches set up, so it was 12 v 12 plus a few AI.

Explain what the mechs have to do with anything. I don't play much BF but i do see people using tanks and copters in MP. Mechs are basically walking tanks so yeah my point still stands.

My bad, I thought it was obvious.

Hint: There is a sliiiight size difference between a soldier and a mech. Or 6 soldiers and a mech even. That's a lot to render when you add up to 12 of them, plus level AI.

This is fucking ridiculous, why is it continuing to be such a shitstorm? Clearly the player count hasn't affected the game in either of it's showings based on the reaction from those who have played it, so why is it such a big deal now?

i don't really understand what is going on in this topic. I'm not even looking forward to TF much and 6 vs 6 isn't a big deal. If anything, it's more likely to be more balanced and have better map design

People have different preferences. Some people like a really hectic, cramped game. You don't have to design the entire game for these people, but how would having 12v12 as a server option be a really bad thing?

This design/experience isn't hardly a new concept to gamers. Nor are bots. Which is why some are weary. Are you getting this?

The opinion is there that is a let down, for the type of game it is. You might not enjoy large number matches, I might not, but some gamers do, for a myriad of their own reasons. You and I aside, Its a let down to people that feel they've got a grasp of what type of game Titan Fall is.

I can understand where people are coming from. They aren't doing some new-to-us gameplay dynamic, again, its more of the same shit with less players that can actually join a game. If this was some sort of more intimate gameplay i'd say its clear that its what the devs...People have been playing these type of FPS's, with these game sizes balanced perfectly fine for decades. We aren't talking about some amazing innovation that is going over peoples heads. Its just what it is.

I get what you are saying, but I think part of the misunderstanding here is people are approaching what they've seen of the game through the lens of past experiences or traditional competitive MP that we've seen before.

To me it sounds like they are trying to craft of kind of traditional single player FPS setpieces into a purely mp game. Whether or not they succeed with that depends on how the game ends up being.

I'm envisioning something like Killzone's warzone game type but instead of a generic mix and match of various mp modes that rotate during a round, Titanfall will frame it within something that you might expect to see in say in a SP campaign level.

I'm probably completely wrong, but I'm imagining something like a short cutscene playing out while a match is waiting to load explaining your objectives framed around actual story elements followed by the match itself. Maybe it's something like you have to rescue a VIP or something, but in order to do that you have approach an enemy's base or compound, weaken its defenses and capture it before trying to rescue the VIP and getting to an extraction point.
Right there you have traditional TDM, king of the hill and capture the flag-style objectives
All the while it sounds like you are going to have this AI on the battlefield that feeds into the gameplay loop. I'm probably blowing smoke out my ass and the game may actually turn out to be completely different or suck, but I think a lot of us are just approaching this with preconceived notions of what a 6 vs. 6/12 vs.12 mp experience is or is supposed to be.

ITT; A bunch of people who have not played any FPS games in their lives and if they have then they are more likely than not completely awful at them because things like map design, weapon balance, movement speed are all as difficult of concepts for them to grasp as the concept of player size being different for different games.

We should all just have free reign to go into any thread and start bitching about player counts just for the hell of it. This games only single player? Fuck are we still on the Ps1 with these limits? I should be able to play with 50 other people in this game, this is bullshit.

Not interested in this game. I just don't see why people are mad over this.

12 player is perfectly fine. I prefer that over 20+ player matches.

This is only the beginning, man. We still have two months of marketing and a review thread to get to.

The review thread is going to be fucking bonkers. Like Skrillex bass drop played through a subwoofer the size of a SETI satellite dish directly in to an echo chamber bonkers.

Again, BF last i checked had Choppers and Tanks in gameplay with 64 players and i don't know if you notice but there is a sliiiiiiight size difference between a soldier and a fucking Tank. Mechs are vehicles at the end of the day and nothing more.

Bravo!

Honestly though to the people that love high player counts, just stick to BF and Planetside. "Problem" solved.

Damn I made a post like on page 4 last night, this train just kept rolling. You know whats fun? 64 players on a CoD 4 map.... Especially that one on the ship, talk about a ship storm.

What really annoys me about Titanfall is that we're only two months from release, and the developers are just being so damn secretive. Hell, we don't know how the game plays at all other than a few pre-scripted gameplays and some trailer footage featuring the new Titans. We have no idea how the "AI" is supposed to work. I assume they're just supposed to run out and take objectives and die to human players (like in MOBAs), or I could be wrong. Maybe they're suppose to actually kill people. Hell if I know. We don't know any of the story at all, not even how it's supposed to play into the multiplayer aspect of the game.

Christ, we don't even know who's making the 360 version! We haven't even seen what it looks like on the Xbox One, let alone the 360! What if the current gen version ends up being poor in quality? No one knows the capabilities of these devs, or the extent of the quality control Respawn's doing.

We're getting all these promises of "Oh, we're going to re-define the FPS genre," and "We know what's best for our vision, just trust us." I'm not trying to rag on the game or anything, I want this game to succeed. We all want this game to succeed. I'm just getting very wary about all of the promises that Respawn is making. I don't want another Aliens: Colonial Marines on my hands. This game has been under tight wraps for so long, I'm starting to get sick of it, really.

Vehicles don't have feet! Lol!

EVERYONE know that

6 vs. 6 can be great. Its all about the team you're with/against and the map.

I've had some great long lasting and rewarding matches on socom back in the day with small teams.

While I am fine with the other stuff. The lack of info about the 360 version is bothering me at this point. I highly prefer playing with a controller. :(

Not sure why you care about the story in a MP shooter, you should assume there's nothing significant there story wise imo.

I do absolutely understand this sentiment, Titanfall is a game that we need to know more about as soon as human possibly. I'm assuming they're going to start the marketing blitz any week now.

I'm sure EA would like to do everything possible to take the heat off of Battlefield 4 still being in Beta 2 months after launch.

Yea. Drew from Respawn was in here talking to some of the people who were going off the deep end about the player count.

I still find it hilarious that people are freaking out about a game they haven't played and don't know how the balance works. 12 people running around potentially in a Titan or having their Titan follow them plus the group of AI militia sounds like it will be more than enough.

I mean it shouldn't even have to be explained. It's 6 v 6 and that's it. These guys clearly know how to make a fun multiplayer game. They've done it before and it seems like they're going to deliver again. Just cause BF4 is fun with 64 players it doesn't mean every other game needs to have a high player count.
The one part that is a question for me are the bots. I personally don't want to play against bots in a MP game. How they're incorporated Into the game I don't know so I'm not gonna say it's gonna suck just cause there's bots. I have heard from people who aren't really good at MP shooters who say that they felt empowered playing Titan Fall because they weren't constantly dying. So if the bots serve the purpose of making the game more accessible, then I think Respawn might end up alienating the hard core shooter crowd.

Feel a bit let down with 6 v 6 basically because of the Titan dynamic. If one team has 2 Titan's in play then that leaves only 4 player controlled humans to seek out.
