Titanfall requires Origin.

What does that have to do with the Origin application? All of those games use a browser for MP, don't they? Seems like you're ignorant to what Origin really is.

Origin's implementation is still based on their god awful DRM which caused nothing but problems for those games for me. The browser is irrelevant (although another issue I hate about EA games now.) They still fall under the same archaic TOS that allows them to ban you from all your games if they ban you from the forums, and gives them the ability to kill the servers of said games, forever losing the games you purchased. Steam at least allows me to download local copies and play offline.

Just because I don't like how EA does things, doesn't make me ignorant. I'm still amazed there's actually an Origin Defense Force out there.

It's called competition and prevention of a monopoly. Seriously. It's not difficult. What do you lose by EA's competition, more incentive for Valve to do better and the odd game requiring the installation of Origin (The horror).

Monopoly is rarely a good thing for consumers it leads to stagnation and in the worst case a great ramp up in anti consumer practices. Is the slight convenience really worth that?

Competition for the sake of competition doesn't always mean things get better. What has Origin done to improve PC gaming other than unleash another horrific DRM ecosystem that has partially crippled two once great franchises?

I never quite thought about it but it was expected. Doesn't bother me much though.

I just won't buy it.
Who am I kidding maybe I will.

Expected.

This game won't require me to launch it from a web browser like BF4 will it? Man I hate that...

Its weird how marmite this is, I love it.

The website server browser isn't really an EA thing, its a Dice thing (hence why the only games so far to do it are Dice games or MP aspects that Dice have made).

I've always been a wait-and-see type of person, especially (x999) with multiplayer games.

I find buying Day 1 is an invitation to get burned, frustrated, and waste a bunch of time trying to connect when servers are getting toasted.

Its pretty rare I buy a game Day1 ever. So I usually don't have to exhibit self control in those situations because I'm usually just not in the mindspace to buy the game right then anyway. Personally I feel a lot of excitement about Titanfall because it feels like the first truly nextgen title. But IDK, I'll see where I'm at gaming-wise when it drops.

More and more i feel like this game is going to disappoint sales wise. Dont get me wrong, it will still sell lots. Just not as many as people think.

Don't.....get banned?
Easy to say, but we've been shown time and time again that EAs CSRs and Mods hold far too much power over that. I, myself, was temp banned for being in a long dead Platoon on BF3 which had the leader change all the clan info to racist info. Lost access to all Origin games for roughly a week while EA "did me a favor" and reversed my permaban. Their advice? Delete your profile whenever you quit the game.

EAs CS has far too much sway over players access to their Origin games.

Umm Origin DRM isn't all that much worse than steam. Not exactly sure why you think otherwise. Battlenet is piece of crap however. Anyway for Ea allows you to keep your games after a EuLa change and allows refunds for games, progress.

While you guys may be perfectly fine with putting an open systems digital climate the hands of one guy I'm not that's a game on a open system for you choice.

It's the only EA game I have on PC so I didn't know if it was an EA thing or just a Battlefield thing. Since TitanFall is multiplayer only I was kinda worried about it.

Damn. Expected this, but damn.

:(

What on earth is this? A publisher locking every single game under their corporate umbrella increases competition how? I need some of the drugs you are on.

EA never had a chance to learn from the mistakes of Steam because they didn't build Steam. The only way Steam has gotten to the point its at now is through a decade of iteration. Thats the only way to build an online marketplace of that caliber. EA just wasn't the company to build it. If they were, they would have.

EA is trying to provide a solution to a problem thats already been solved for most people. Why do they want to solve it? Because theres a lot of control that comes from being a steward of a platform like that. But a platform like that only becomes more than the sum of its parts under a very specific set of circumstances. Mostly its right place, right time followed by year after year of iteration. Origin will never be anything more than it is now. Maybe I'm cynical but I think it to be true. Its just another initiative that will eventually peter out over time. People forget just how far Steam has come. Its taken a decade of service to build up the amount of trust people have in their service. And the majority of that ultra-goodwill has only come about in the last 3 or 4 years. Thats why this sucks. Its a restrictive system that exists to allow EA to exert more control over its customers- but it offers no benefits while doing so.

To be honest I kind of doubt EA even considers Steam their competition. Digital Distribution is just the way things are now. And everyone from the smallest indie dev to the largest corporations are rolling their own solutions. Its just that some suck more than others.

Dropping those truth bombs.

Yes, in all seriousness, I will always pick Steam over Origin, given the chance. Not only for their more robust suite of functions and the existing install base, but also because they've earned my goodwill.

Expected.

But lets just give a round of applause to EA who are really doing a great job making sure this game isnt the next Call of Duty.

I guess I don't understand why being anti-Origin is a principle anyway? People in here wear it like a badge of honor

As far as i can tell the anti-Origin sentiment is Steam fanboyism. For many its Steam or bust.

Anyway, i doubt very seriously if this will impact numbers. The amount of people crazy like me to swear off a company eternally for a slight is miniscule at best.

Did people seriously not expect this?

Origin isn't even that bad anymore. It offers a full refund of any game within 24 of buying it for any reason.

Not surprising. I wish EA would consider a Steam release a few weeks after the Origin one though, it'd work out well and bring in late adopters. I'm not playing TitanFall though, so big fans won't care much. Hopefully by Battlefront (2015) they may reconsider a new strategy.

At the moment I'm more interested in Ubisoft dropping uPlay, that needs to go away fast.

i dont give a shit about Titanfall but am considering buying it on Origin just to spite Steam

edit: The fact that Valve brought fanboyism to the PC is something i cannot forgive.

Wonder what the patching cadence is going to be like. Still stuck side-by-side with the consoles? Hate to see a major advantage of digital games go to waste. Origin isn't terrible but Battlelog is a waste and neither adds value.

I don't get why Respawn shacked up with EA in the first place.

Lol, still fighting the good fight against Steam. Now we just Heavy to pop in wishing for a resurrection of GFWL with TitanFall and this thread would be complete.

Why would you guys even buy Titanfall through steam if you really hated EA that much?

This had to be expected right. I know it's an EA partners game but I doubt those contracts have a lot flexibility in terms of it being released on Steam.

I stopped using Origin because it didn't have a game backup feature like Steam. Since I'm in Canada and our download limits are still stuck in 1999, this was essential for me. But this was years ago. Can someone tell me if they've added a full blown game backup option like the one Steam offers?

We'll all complain but I'm sure most will still buy it, justifying EA's bullshit.
If XB1 kept its current plans it would've been a lesser of two evils situation, at least on PC it's more a matter of liking Steam more and at any rate it's not Uplay. Though even as things stand, well, with the XB1's performance it just seems smarter to invest in a card a fraction of the cost if you already have a decent enough PC and this is the only game you really want to play, and doubly so if you already got a PS4 for console titles.

Anyways, expected this, so not really upset or disappointed. I would've been pleasantly surprised if it were the other way around, but I kept my hopes in check there.
