Indiana Jones PS5 Physical Edition requires Internet to Install

I don't have access to internet right now(only limited mobile data) and got the disc expecting to play it on my PS5 despite it not being patched, as I have done with plenty of other games at times. Quite disappointed at the moment. It only having one disc with 20GB for a 125 GB and the discs being able to hold up to 100GB is some of the stingies shit I've seen in quite a while.

Do you have a library or some other place to get cheap/free WiFi? I used to do that back in the day with my laptop to get Windows updates when I had a metered connection.

I've been thinking about getting one of those tiny HDMI screens for times like this. Unfortunately there isn't any displays to hook up it too there. We take internet for granted nowadays. It isn't really a big problem as my lack of it is just temporary, but it must suck for gamers in poorer countries where internet isn't as available.

"Just play your ps4 or something" - Man in suit

What's the point of disc drive consoles, why are people afraid of digital only next gen when shit like this is more or less the norm on consoles?

I can't believe this is still a thing people get upset about. I get not wanting to deal with a game that requires an always-on connection. But a one time download is a pretty minor issue.
slow like a panda indeed

If they make physical media useless a digital only future will make game prices rise by letting them charge for them what they want without any kind of release discount

Then why did the opposite happen on Steam?

Most devs are trying to fit their games on disc, Microsoft is one of the bigger exceptions. And I think they've seen the negative feedback from this and the new Doom, because the PS5 copy of Gears of War apparently has the entire campaign content on disc.

And there's still a point in getting disc releases, you can sell or borrow your copy, even if it works more or less like an activation key.

Having played more of it last-night, and getting past the ancient Egypt part (which was fascinating in of itself as we'll probably never get to see what's under the Sphinx in real-life..) Who in the development team thought it was a good idea, in the part where you are literally stuck in sand up to your shoulders, low on health, can't access ANYTHING, and yet you have a bunch of Scorpions coming by to sting you, depleting your health slowly until the truck comes along to save you...how does that add to the experience? The minute it came about I was like WTF?

Can't wait to play this game at <15€. Meanwhile they can take all the time to shove those empty discs up their asses.

You haven't read a single post have you? The entire issue is the disc isn't empty quite the opposite.

20 GB on the disc out of 125 GB of the full size of the game is basically nothing, just uncompressed key check data and some shit. It's basically an empty disc that let you download the full game.

I haven't played it. But that sounds like Indiana Jones to me.

Disc isn't expensive - they could include 2 Blu Rays if they wanted to, no?

Yes, but doing it this way means they can have the discs printed before the game is finished. Sure they could put a beta (or Pre-Beta) like most games do but it's not much of a difference really. People have been conditioned to expect a Day 1 patch, doesn't mean much if it's 30 GB versus 100.

Except Collector Whores are mad about it.

You don't have to be a "collector whore" to prefer physical, want physical, etc.. in your media.

And you still get that. You can sell the disc if you wanna once you finish it.

I haven't really looked into if there's any reason to think that someone who buys the game at launch, completes it, and sells it to like Gamestop once done would be hurt by this. But I don't see any reason to think so.

No - they aren't stopped from reselling or purchasing used. But people who want physical, such as myself, typically want the game to function out of the box without requirements to networks, etc. This is akin to a "Game Keycard Cart" on Switch 2. Therein lies the issue, for me at least.

No buy. I wont support any game that has DRM policies. If I cant play the game as soon as I insert the disc, then I dont want it. This isnt the same as a day one patch fixing any game breaking bugs. Its basically still a download only game.

This idea that people would play games without the Day 1 patch is silly.

Hell, look at Borderlands 4. Might need a little bit more lovin in the oven.

It's okay for me to insert a game, install it, and let it mature over time and receive one patch or another.
But when I spend so much money on a medium, I also want to be able to insert the disc offline and play without the internet or server dependencies.
For this, the game must a) be available in its entirety on disc(s) and b) be in at least a presentable condition.
That's why I won't be buying Indiana Jones or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 for the PS5, even though I was really looking forward to these games.
If I'm going to spend money and still be dependent on servers and the goodwill of the respective service providers, then I'll just go for the cheapest key I can find.

Most games, you're not going to play it without the Day 1 patch. Too buggy. Even Day 1 is often still buggy.
I know, but they're still making the effort and often you don't have to redownload the entire thing. Downloading a 20-30 gig day1 patch is still a better scenario than downloading a 120gig game.

When a game goes gold it means the game's development is complete, it is stable, fully playable, and approved for manufacturing and distribution.
Does having a day one patch sound like it's gone gold to you?

You can go offline once you get the patches. That's what I do. Even with digital games (on the primary console)

But yes, Sony will turn the servers off some day. It won't be today, it won't be tomorrow... but some day.

That really hasn't been the case for 10-15 years at least.

For most games yes, but I do have a lot of games that have received zero patches and work flawlessly.
And sure some do get patches but actually add stuff, not fixing it to be actually playable.
But yes the problem has been around for as long as other problems outside the gaming world.

Exactly.
It is the moment were the nazi villain shows how nazi and stupid he is by not killing Jones when he has the chance because he'd rather torture him for a while instead of outright killing him.
A few story beats and set pieces were really aping the indy movies, for better or worse (mostly for the better i found).

I never cared to learn how this kind of stuff works in consoles that I don't have, but looks like have the game in the cart, is not something that affect only the Switch family. Dang. Physical games are really in the last sprint.

I don't get it - it was one of the most "Indy-moments" for me in this game. To have to blow the scorpions away the moment they want to sting me. Was very funny to me... 🤷

Can't say I enjoyed it much, one thing that did surprise me in Egypt was the wild dogs roaming about, I thought the only dogs were the ones that accompanied the German soldiers so the minute it was apparent that there alert was all too apparent for me I thought ok...it's not just the scorpions that have come to play as well!
