Titanfall Review Thread

It was hyped up before it was even revealed because the studio itself had lots of hype coming off the lawsuit and exodus from Infinity Ward.

It was getting real hype however, from actual people playing the game at various shows. People who played it said stuff like "it's the real deal" etc. I don't know what type of hype there is for this game at all though. As long as I've been gaming I don't think I've seen such strange opinions about a game before launch. The usual groups are there, fanatics, platform warriors, shooter fans, and the interested. Then there is the rise of the "Fake hype" accusers. Ie, "I don't see why this game is any good." There has been so much of that all over the web lately, I'm thinking now that the dominate type of "hype" for this game.

The vast majority of sales are in the first two weeks. Reviews are supposed to reflect the state of the game during that time when people are considering a purchase. The condition of the game before that doesn't matter, and the condition of the game six months or so later doesn't really matter that much either. What matters is "What is this going to be like when I play $60 to go and play it" cause that's how 90% of the audience will experience it.

Server issues can be fixed within a few weeks of launch though. Big leap from my 'few weeks' to '6 months' there bud.

For those that experienced frame rate drops, I wonder how often they occurred. I hardly noticed them in the beta. Then again, I don't think I ever played in a match with more than 5 titans out.

I think I liked playing as the pilot more than inside a titan.

At this point I bet the 360 version will run better because they won't have yo jack the resolution just to say its above 720.

A game like this at 60 fps bad textures sub hd is better than a wavering to single digit frame rates with 790p and mediocre textures.

I've got some bad news for you.

Geez, I wonder how it got a 10/10 from them!

Because, I want people to understand that shooters aren't everything.

There's nothing more you can do with the shooter genre other than make it totally realistic meaning that your injuries don't fully heal. You have to spend a load of time reloading. If you die then you start from the beginning.

I am tired of shooting games and I hate last generation because it was the birth of the dude bros.

I am tired of all of this online aspect stuff. I want games to return to story and gameplay first.

We give developers so much leeway now but I don't. If your game doesn't do anything for the genre then it does nothing for me.

GIVE ME SOMETHING NEW! PROVE ME WRONG.

7-8 ia average in my opinion then again, I am a hard judge anyway.

Your preference must be story over multiplayer, then, since the gameplay is wonderfully refined in Titanfall. I'm sorry you don't like playing shooters with others, but there are people that do. Would you expect someone to wish for the death of story focused games since they would rather watch a movie instead?

Right now only giving clicks to reviews in progress. What can you asses right now other than maps, gameplay, audiovisuals, and mission debrief cutscenes?

Scores so far seem better than I certainly anticipated.

Nah, good scores were expected, we all knew the game was fun from the beta player reviews. The big question will be answered tomorrow: will the launch servers hold up? Seeing as it's multi only and no offline nor single player game at all, Titanfall really depends on a smooth launch and reliable servers.

My judgement and wallet is waiting until the end of the week to see how it all rides out. I'm hoping it goes super smooth and that EA catches a break with Titanfall, personally.

Did you never play last titan standing? Played that quite often and suffered no frame rate issues

Oh they were definitely there in the beta when lots of crazy shit was happening on screen.

Then why don't they watch a movie.

Destructoid and IGN are also choosing not to post reviews yet. I believe both are choosing to spend time on the retail servers, with both the Xbox One and PC versions (IGN stated that the press event was XBO only).

Reviews are what I expected in terms of scores. But how can they rate a multiplayer-only game went it hasn't even released yet?

There is never been so much variety in games as it is today, The fact there is a genre that is massively popular doesn't demise the great amount of different games you can play from indie developers, publishers, kickstarter, downloadables, steam, gog, etc. etc..

either you are oblivious to what it is to play or you just hate things people like because... reasons I guess...

Editor's note: Starting with Titanfall, we have decided to delay the full review of online-only games until we have been able to play them extensively on fully populated public servers, where the experience may be different to the controlled conditions available before a game is released.

YES! Damn fine, EG damn fine :D

Even then scores are impressive, and I can't wait for Friday ^_^

Wasn't expecting this many 10s and 9+s to be honest, I didn't think it was that good.

Still, can't wait to jump in myself

And now what, good scores for Titanfall? Or framerate issues?

I'm assuming he means the single digit frame drops and screen tearing present during the beta still exist. Might be a bit disheartening for anyone that was looking forward to a smooth experience from the FPS is king guys at respawn.
