Did anything become of this? I can't remember he was half Hollow/Reaper but seemed like the hollow process was special to him that went completly fucking no where.
It turned out Hollow Ichigo was Ichigo's real zanpakuto spirit, and the guy we thought was Zangetsu was actually his Quincy powers. He now wields two swords, having accepted Hollow Ichigo. Not that it did him much good, due to final boss hax.
There was also a flashback about Ichigo's parents where Ichigo's mother (who was a Quincy) fights a hollow created by Aizen that looks just like "H2 Ichigo", the connection never really being explained.

The only things guns release are bullets.
He actually does get to use his combined power against Yhwach. He combines Getsuga Tensho (his shinigami ability) with Gran Ray Cero (a high level hollow ability) into a single attack that even Yhwach didn't see coming.
And then he gets owned. And here we are.

Funnily enough Hollow Ichigo uses this in an anime zanpakuto anime filler that was kinda canon in that showed all the capiains zan spirits long before they appeared in the manga. Was a pretty cool moment choregraphy wise as well.

His mom was a quincy, technically Ishida is more useful in fighting the big bad in this arc than Ichigo is, but we all know that's not how it'll finally end up.

Ishida is currently being hyped up as the perfect counter to the final boss, Yhwach, but who knows if he'll actually help.
He gained an ability called Antithesis, which allows him to transfer damage done to him to someone else. Hilariously enough, the same chapter he revealed this ability, his opponent revealed his ability, Balance, which allowed him to transfer the damage right back to Ishida. Bleach in a nutshell.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kubo randomly brought Bounts into canon just to say Ichigo was one. (Those vampires with Stands from the first filler arc, if you don't recall.)

Ahh, that makes sense. It seems I've already purged half of that awful war arc from my mind.
Ichigo is like a Bethesda protagonist.
Also reinforces how stupidly f'd up the soul society and world balance is, which was Aizen's point to begin with.
If they do animate this last arc they really do need to change things. There is a LOT of stupid that was put out. Not stupid in the sense that the manga is directed at kids but just storytelling and logic problems. Justifications for things or the lack of them. The whole thing should be redone. There is a lot of filler stuff in the Bleach anime that is better done compared to a good chunk of stuff that he did here and a lot of that filler was not that good.

Man I own the first 20 or so volumes of Bleach and I was rereading it. The Soul Society Invasion arc is still great, you forget how awesome this manga used to be.
Yeah it's still filled with the Kubo tropes of Ichigo gaining a new power to get out of a situation, and introducing an array of new characters when he's out of ideas, but damn if the Thirteen Company Captains and Bankais aren't still awesome. Guess back then we weren't so burned out on it, seemed more novel then.
I still enjoyed it up until Aizen's Defeat but there's a pretty clear decline in quality after the Soul society arcs conclude.

The saddest thing is you can tell there was a lot more to this manga before the rushed ending. The Royal Guards still hadn't shown all their powers, and were most likely going to side with Juda (since he "became" the soul king, and anyone who is the SK is who they follow). There was probably going to be more Quincies to fight. Even Ichigo would probably have a new powerset, and the side characters would get one last hurrah.
The theory of Juda wanting to correct SS and this is way of doing it is holding truer and truer, and while that ending wouldn't be so bad, all the leftover plot points should have been corrected.
How said it'll be when One Piece (which has terrible pacing as of late) and Boku (which is good but can get kinda slice-of-lifey far too often) are the only things I get to wake up to on a Thursday morning. HxH is on hiatus again for probably forever, and Toriko is ending soon too. At least Bleach, in all its horrific splendor, provided entertainment and some hype.

it still fucks with me that Aizen didn't even try to use his shikai on Ichigo. Unless he couldn't when he fused with his sword but then the whole thing when he trolled Yhwach implies that he does still have some hypnosis power.
Owned by some girl with a heart collecting hobby? That'd be kind of ironic given the deal with Hollows.
Though if we want REAL spoilers I could see Delta seeing Yhwach's futures and just making him off himself.

Yep, he is pretty much everything and everyone. Kubo has created an all-powerful jobber. Of course the final boss would have to have one of the most broken abilities in existence to be able to do shit against him.
He can change the future. I.e. he can do anything.
And I dont think he will be used any more in the remaining chapters. Seems Uryu is the one to do the final boss debuff. But would be interesting if it is a multi party fight with everyone against Ywach. Just get Aizen in there trolling everyone - its all I need for a satisfying end.

Having followed the manga since the Hueco Mundo arc, I'm feeling so disappointed... It's one thing to rush the ending of the Tsukishima arc, but to rush the ending of the whole series? He built up so many plot threads that will undoubtedly lead nowhere... What a waste. I'm prepared for an ending even worse than Hitman Reborn's.

It was before Ywach showed up. The manga set up this mystery of thousands of footprints in soul society all marching somewhere and then disappearing. Then like two chapters later it's revealed Kurotsuchi just sacrificed them for energy or something and it's never talked about again.

The problem with Tsukishima showing up was that it was not really explained all that well and thus rushed to all hell in which you have to come to your own conclusion, which I have done below.
The way I picture it is that Tsukishima has the power to rewrite the past to include himself and the person he stabbed. Okay, now bach is the almighty who can see every type of future and choice all at once and described it as sand, once a grain is chosen that future is locked. Bach broke the sword and said all futures show this sword is broken you can't fix it because I'm op and your destiny is now firmly set. She tried to fix it, but she can't reject it because that future is locked.
So, Tsukishima shows up and is all, well, your future is set, but your past on the other hand is not. So instead of the sword being broken he changed his past, by bach not destroy it, but just beating the shit out of itchigo. Thus she was able to repair it because his future was no longer set as his past was changed.
To make this longer and longer. Itchigo was on a path designed for him from his choice(attacking with his bankai) and bach locked it in. Tsukishima removed that locked future and instead of itchigo turning right,he made him turn left.(not attacking with his bankai)Because as well all know, once a sword is destroyed in bankai it can never be fixed.

I mean, technically they know that when they die in SS they return to earth so avoiding needless death is useful in so far as to maintain a semblance of order (something Quincies and hollows disrupt). The actual value of individual life is probably very low.
If you are talking about Mayuri and those souls, he didn't kill them to send them back to Earth. I think he erased their souls destroying them forever to keep balance for the souls destroyed by the Quincy.
