It would be a lot kinder to just put us out of our absolute misery one way or the other. I can cope with it being vapourware, I don't mind if it got scrapped, I'll deal with it somehow. What really hurts? The hope

The Last Guardian should've been first.

It is nobody's secret (at least here on Gaf) that gaming can be a truly magical experience. I remember the first time I booted Ocarina of Time. Listening the music, feeling the movement of Link and achieving my first goal. There's something special about it. No doubt about that. But in my case, it was until I played Shadow of the Colossus that something changed. Graphics? gameplay? I don't know and I'm not sure. But what I'm sure of is that this game was one of the most (if not THE most) aesthetically and spiritually beautiful experiences I've ever had with a videogame. The loneliness, yet the sense of companionship (I'm talking about Agro of course) of the game is just amazing. Riding with Agro across the infinite valleys of imagination touched something in my brain (mind?). Maybe a sense of infinite self. I don't now. Almost like a fractal of feelings going down my thoughts. Killing (freeing?) each colossi was a unique experience and brought my imagination somewhere else. It might sound hyperbole (as Gaf says), but in my case its not. This feeling was real and I can guarantee that this could've have been a written novel. Steven King maybe? You tell Me.

And then, The Last Guardian trailer was announced. I watched it maybe 20 times trying to figure out the relationship between the little kid and the creature. The music was perfect, colors, setting and that peculiar characteristic that all Ueda's games have: telling a story without the need of having a dialog. The dialog is you and the game; you and a story that was once told but remains buried somewhere for you to discover it. This is why this game deserves better. It should've been released earlier. It should've come first. Nowadays, video games tell magnificent stories (think of TLOU) and The Last Guardian has all the potential to do it.

I hereby, declare that I would like to become a member of the 'The Last Guardian Support Group' as my feelings towards this game is as real as each of all of the current members. If released, I can guarantee that countless hours of discussion will flourish about what it means or who The Guardian is. Is it the Creature? or is it the little kid who desperately is trying to be free? Maybe we will never know, but as far as I can tell, The Last Guardian is as real as it had been released already and we (the gamers and the community) will be part of that, always.

Believe.

Rewatched the trailer for this and it brought the feels. I too wonder how it would be received in this new generation of gaming. As long as it doesn't try to be something its not (besides what TeamIco games have been known for), I think it will succeed.

If this game does not come out for PS3 I will consider it a massive betrayal.

Really? Nows not that time! We're still complaining about making sure the game is actually coming out at all. :P

Count me in, I've been waiting ever since that first "Trico" trailer, and it gets harder and harder each year it doesn't show, but I truly believe this will be the year.

For less than 7 nights remain

GAF ponders in dark thoughts

Abandoned the Ueda and Sony they think

So they drink

We TLGSG waver not

Simply BELIEVE

The second that gameplay is shown for this game the meltdowns will be incredible. The hype has grown so out of control that once we see the player character doing 'videogamey things' the illusion people have that it will be like playing a liquid dream will be shattered, and rivers of tears will spring forth.

For that reason I think they should do a cut-scene only trailer at E3, with a single word at the end: 'Soon'. Then kill the project quietly and never speak of it again.

Japan Studios has Freedom Wars, Oreshika, Gravity Rush 2, Project Beast and a few projects like Deep Down with other studios going on, the SSM dude who went over there said the problems when he arrived there was that the studio took on too many projects and nothing was getting finished. Lots of projects were put on hold and staff put to work on fewer, more matured games. TLG is either put on hold too or it's a long term slow project currently maintained by few core staff that is stilll years away. I believe Japan Studios is working at full capacity now to get those ~6 games out
Other than Gravity Rush 2 (& Oreshika?), aren't those just games published by Sony? They might get some technical support, but the majority of work is done by the developer paid to do said work. And Deep Down & Project Beast are done by Capcom & From Software. Saying those have some huge effect on Sony Japan's internal work is as false as saying the development of Journey & Flower affected the development of SCEA Santa Monica's PS3 games. They get support & financing, but the work is still mostly done by the non-internal dev team hired for the job.

Imagine if they cold opened with a TLG gameplay trailer and release date.

Then Jack shows up (yeah I know he's not Sony anymore, who cares it's my dream) with his big beaming smile and says "Well I figured we'd get that out of the way first."

Still believing.

I'm in! There is no doubt in my mind that Sony will win E3 this year just by unleashing this upon us.

I remember years ago showing the trailer for this to my girlfriend, who I had only been with for a short while, as I wanted to show her that games could be so much more interesting than the mainstream shooter stereotypes. Literally a month ago she asked me what happened to "that game with that bird dog, that looked amazing". Tbh I found it incredible that four years down the line she remembered it completely out of the blue, says it all about how beautiful that trailer was.

Believe!

They will close the show with the dream like games.

FFXV on stage demo. Brings the gaming world to its knees.

Then just as we're about to pass out.

"Just one more thing"

Cue one of the most beautiful trailers of all time.

GAF down for 2 weeks minimum. Mass bannings from reaction threads. TLG avatars everywhere. Doubters in disbelief.

So much potential in this game, so much.

Seriously getting excited now, not only for this (cos I actually believe for the first time in years that we will see something) but e3 in general.

I have never been looking forward to an e3 this much ever.

That cartoon didn't include the third possibility.
The game dies.

But I so want it. And I really think there is a serious chance that TLG will come and be presented this E3. Sony, please. It's one of the few games I really care about.

Catbird will look like it dies, then it will save you at the end, but it's wings will be fully back with the golden sun rippling along them.

Guys the game won't be at E3, don't do this to yourselves.

I almost cried after re-watching the trailer above. Why do we believe, just to suffer? :-/

I'm agnostic. There may or may not be a higher power that will wash me with many emotions and a big as griffon. I used to be a believer but the struggle was too much. Life is much simpler this way.

in all honesty Sony should just come out and say whatever is going on with this game, the secrecy is only gonna harm the product if is indeed still in development, something i find unreasonable to be honest because the last game from that studio was 9 years ago and in the same spam of time ND dog released Uncharted 1 to 3 and the last of us, crazy indeed, they should just release whatever they have and cut their loses

Ueda was talking about it with Polygon last year, it's happening ... just slowly. I don't think he's a full-time employee with Sony so I assume Sony will provide him with staff/resources when they see fit.

Sigh. I'm here. Once again

If for no other reason that it would be perhaps the greatest conference moment of all time. In reality, I don't expect to see it.

But...

The music is outstanding. It could easily be a movie...

"Young boy bonds with a monster... and they grow up together. When they are faced with the biggest crisis of their life, they will have only one another... This is an epic adventure which will teach them both what friendship, loyalty and sacrifice mean."

With that music in the background, who the fuck isnt gonna cry? :D

I'm down for it. Bring it on.

Totally, a king kong set up maybe. The boy is forced to leave/kill the monster in the end...maybe secretly lets him live?
Oh man, I certainly hope not. The video makes me believe there is EVERY possibility I am going to get super invested in their relationship. Killing or leaving him would be... ugh. I hope its... uplifting.

Ueda is the only developer whom I trust to generate emotions through gameplay. (Maybe ThatGameCompany as well, but Ueda is a fucking master.) I was moved beyond belief by both SotC and ICO. They are incredible games, and this looks like it'll fit right in.

These are a few of my posts from the ORIGINAL REVEAL OF TRICO thread. Whether or not this qualifies me for this support group is your prerogative, but this game will always have a special place in my heart, and rumors and snide remarks notwithstanding, I will continue to support it till the end.

Please come out soon goddammit!
