Half-assed would imply they didn't work hard on it, and they didn't put in much effort. We know this isn't the case, so you are plain wrong in your accusation of it being a half-assed port. Maybe you should play some actual half-assed ports to refresh your memory of what they look/play like. People like you think it's as simple as pressing a 'make PS4 version' button.

And yeah, someone else brought up a good point: why don't we ever see any of these drive-by trolls and false concern trolls ever say anything about the screens that look GREAT? What about the comparisons that show the shadow close to identical on each FPS setting? Why do they go ignored by the very same trolls who complain about every single negative?

I'm a previous owner, 1080p 60fps is what most wanted, it's twice the pixels and twice the framerate, that's enough to make a BIG difference on a big screen, hell 60fps would be enough for most since framerate makes the biggest difference, more than any other setting. If someone expected a previous gen port to look completly different it's their own fault.

They give a simple option for better shadows at 30fps (I don't have a clue why people would sacrifice 30 frames for better shadows) and people start losing their shit? don't get the game and be done, this is such a sad thread.
Summed up my feelings on this. Coming off of a gen where (particularly towards the end) games struggled to even hit a solid 30fps and now we're getting one of the best games of last gen at 1080p and at 60fps. And yet I read about people canceling pre-orders or waiting for bargain bin prices before picking it up?

It's not on me to tell people how to spend their money but flipping out over some shadows?! A lot of us hope for more 60fps games yet when we do get them people nitpick to death.

I for one can't wait to play through this game for the first time with a version improved from last gen. Shadows be damned.....
 
While I agree some responses in this thread are a little over the top I do think there's some reason for concern. The 60 fps gameplay is a welcome addition. The issues shown in some of the pics in this thread are not. I just cancelled my preorder at Amazon as a result. I wanted to support naughty dog and get the definitive version of this game but at this point I'm not sure this is it. First post on the matter and not trying to troll anyone.

How on earth is the PS4 version not the definitive version? Are you even aware of what you just typed?
 
I love the sections of the game where even when you pause the game and there's a dark black layer over the image, you can actually see the image change when you alternate between the two settings. Awesome possum IMO.

Thats just the way it is man. Look at this thread right now where we are discussing shadow differences that may/may not be glitches. People are coming out of the woodwork to proclaim ND liars because of these minor things. In the fight for 30fps/60fps, whoever has the best graphics is going to win over the audience.
I think COD disproved this somewhat. I can't tell you how many times I've heard a person mention how they like COD more than other shooters because it "moves better" or something along those lines. I know exactly what they're getting at but they don't really know how to articulate it. It's the god damn framerate by the way.

This whole debate is like fullscreen vs widescreen or SD vs HD to me. Fullscreen and SD are acceptable, yes. But the alternatives are clearly superior and should always be the standard, and not the exception.

Just going to watch it on Youtube so I can justify my decision but I am on board with you. They really messed this up and should have just been honest about how they broke the GOTY. Naughty Dogs indeed... this game makes me want to stick their nose in it. Thank god for blurry GIFs and smudgy buffered internet videos. I almost played this!!! Dodged a bullet there. Now back to bitching about how enemy soldiers faces aren't good enough in combat in AC: Unity. My favorite part about videogames is how easy it is to avoid them!!
 

The Remaster looks great but I gotta say this screenshot here is somewhat worrying, I also read something about clothes not wrinkling appropriately? I'm getting the Remaster for sure because I've been excited for it sine it was announced but I hope ND addresses those issues.

it seems more like a post-processing effect than the game rendering parts of the frame at a lower res tbh.

It definitely looks like a post processing filter rather than an actual re-rendering (Which I imagine would be more taxing on the engine, so it wouldn't make sense anyway)

You keep saying you don't care how hard they worked.....but that is why it isn't a half-assed port. Half-assed implies something was rushed/made with a lazy attitude/low standard of quality, so you are fundamentally wrong in calling it half-assed, especially when a number of screenshots have shown it looking amazing. What you're doing is repeatedly calling the port "half-assed"...and then saying you don't care about the things that I'm using as rebuttal against those claims. That isn't a mature discussion, that's fucking immature. You might as well say "I'm right, and I don't care about any claims otherwise, lalala".

In terms of the part i bolded: it isn't as black and white as that, who are you trying to fool? Who are you to say that there are only two possible ways that these graphical misgivings came about? We have been told by ND themselves how hard it was to get the game running on PS4 after heavily adapting the code for the PS3's architecture. So your two biased conclusions are void.

Perhaps you'll see some of the screenshots of this game that paint this game in a very good light, or read some peoples comments about how steady the framerate is and realise that you're full of shit in your claim of it being half-assed.

Apparently if the game looked exactly the same at 30 fps he'd be happy? Idk, this really is a confusing thread. Shouldn't the game naturally look better at 30fps?

The game was coded for the PS3, a Cell based proccessor, which is based on completely different architecture than the PS4, which is x86. Naughty Dog optimized the hell out of the game, just to get it running for the PS3, had to completely redevelop the code for the game for the PS4, just to get it working.

A half ass port would be a simple uprez. Naughty Dog went far beyond what I thought that they would do. This is the most work ever put into a Remaster, so you might want to calm the hell down.

No matter what, compromises have to be made, especially on closed boxes. The PS4 is vastly weaker than what you think it is, too.
 
Seems like bounce lighting tech is a post-process shader thats running in very low res, so its causing heavy aliasing.
It's not a post process shader, most likely a variation of instant radiosity on lowres buffer.
It was used on ps3 for some scenes. (using a very low res buffer..)
 
Next requirement to be hired at ND will be "have guts and lot of patience". It's incredible how much everything they say/do/think is overanalyzed, looking for that one little and single detail that's not perfect just to prove some stupid point.
It looks to me that they are in a position where they are not allowed to make a single """mistake""".
It just kills my interest in discussing the game, jesus I think I forgot the last time I read something abut the game itself rather than its performance.

What part of me not caring about the development process is hard for you to grasp? In all seriousness. I keep telling you I don't care and you keep reiterating it. I do not care. I worked harder than developers for my money. But they shouldn't care. I either buy it or I don't. That's it.

And this is at twice the frame rate and res , i mean don't get me wrong look like the PS4 version got some issues .
Still anyone saying this is not massive upgrade over PS3 i don't know what to say .
