It ran like ass on the ps3
Yeah iirc that was the worst platform for it unfortunately. Even now the special/aniv version on PS5 has fucked up 5.1 audio with dialogue coming from the wrong channels. On console XSX with auto HDR is the best place to play and no audio problems. Also has greater mod flexibility too. PC is great of course.

I was waiting in line for a midnight launch Asda in the UK were having for it, of all places. Played a metric fuckton of it on the 360, and come back to it every so often. It's probably my most played game ever.

Getting all excited to take part in the Skyrim civil war, only to find out it that the final battle involved like 10 guys. And after it was over nothing changed and absolutely no one cared.

On the positive side, the first time I picked a fight with a giant and got launched into the sky by his club is still one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in a game.

Memories of Skyrim are that I was so keen to own it I accidentally pre-ordered it twice from different stores so had a spare to give to a friend. It was never quite as interesting or worth going back to as the previous game for me. Bought it again for VR and spent a few more weeks with it for novelty value but bounced well before getting anywhere really.

I got it for free through Bethesda Insiders as a Best Buy employee, but I hadn't worked there for a few months when it released.

I had just moved in with my gf (now wife), and my post-college internship had just ended. So I was freshly unemployed and had all the time in the world to play it.

I remember playing it for about an hour at midnight on 11/11/11, then waking up with my gf as she got ready to go to work. As soon as she left around 7:30 a.m., I immediately fired it up and became totally immersed in the game world. Suddenly, I heard a key in our front door and looked at the clock. It was 5:30 p.m. and she was home from work. I was still sitting in the same spot I was in when she left and it felt like maybe 2 hours had passed instead of the entire day.

It was a glorious day of gaming, but I felt pretty shitty: unemployed and spent all day playing a video game while my gf went to work, lol. I spent the next few weeks alternating between playing it for marathon sessions and applying for jobs, and ultimately landed a good position that I started in Jan. 2012. But that fall/winter of Skyrim and no other real responsibilities was pretty magical.

One of my all time faves. That music when you first leave the cave, just awesome.

So much to do and fun ways to totally break the game.

I’ve bought this more times than I’d care to admit!

Thanks for the laughs. Guess stating facts like that PS5 Pro is better than Ps5 is "Pro master race" warring too.
Glad you found it funny. I didn't. There's no justification for you to act in the way you have. You wrongly attacked my innocent post responding to a guy talking about his PS3 issues. Then further insulted me unfairly by saying it was my fault for not being able to write well. So to keep things civil. Kindly drop it and jog the fuck on.

Probably the most memorable moment for me was on Skyrim VR and getting that funny quirk which sends you flying up into the sky at hyperspeed when a giant whacks you. Wasn't quite so funny in VR tho :messenger_grinning_sweat:

My memories is trying three times, three different platforms, and never getting very far before bouncing off.
Gonna give it a shot again one of these days.
Funny enough I really enjoyed Starfield and didn't bounce of that. Which probably means i'm a sick fuck according to many folks here.
I also very much enjoyed Oblivion.
Maybe Skyrim is the one who got away, or maybe we'll make it work in the end.

Maybe it's just to much sky and not quite enough rim.

I had more fun messing around with mods than actually playing it.

It'll probably be 20 years old before we get another elder scrolls. It's a shame they wasted so much on that lame duck starfield

One of my most anticipated games of all time. I built a brand new PC during the summer of 2011 to get ready. To be honest, I can't remember the last time I was as hyped for a game release, maybe Cyberpunk.

Loved it at launch, but ran into some really weird texture glitches, especially with snow overlapping with other surfaces that I guess was unique to certain AMD GPUs at the time. Driver updates a couple weeks later cleared it up, but other than that, I played this game at least 3-4 hours a day for about a month straight. Definitely an all time great.

I remember coming straight home from school at 11:11:11 (or a few days after, don't remember), playing it on my bulky, widescreen Sony TV in the basement.

It was snowing outside so it matched the ambience of Skyrim. It was a beautiful time, indeed.

I remember when I first played it. It was on the PS3. Had an amazing time until I hit around 80-100 hours. The game had a weird save bug where the longer you play the game on your save the lower your fps gets.

As someone who played Arena, Dagerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion before it, Skyrim never appealed to me as much as others due to how dumbed down its game mechanics are. That said, it's a pretty darn good VR game.

I remember being super hyped for the game and doing some VPN thing or whatever so that I could play the game earlier.
Then I realised it was the same game as Oblivion, but dumbed down, which was the same game as Morrowind, but dumbed down, and quit playing after maybe 20 hours and never touched it again.

I was shocked with how much I liked playing it for a 4th or 5th time in VR. I played it on PSVR1 and it was just really immersive, and the melee combat felt better too.

The base game is endlessly moddable which really helps extend its life.
Never forget the best mod (sound on):

Skyrim is my second favorite The Elder Scrolls game and also second in my top 5 greatest RPGs of all time. Oblivion is at the top, forever.

I love everything about Skyrim. I love the feeling of being lost in a huge world, the harsh climate beautifully expressed through dynamic weather system, the story, fluid combat, the grittiness and dirt of textures, grand scale of the natural environments, the design and execution of every single model (mesh) and how open to experimentation the RPG systems are. I especially love how darker the overall tone of the game is, compared to its predecessor.
Even with all the praise and awards, I still don't think the game got enough recognition and respect from the players. It deserves way, way more.
Skyrim is not just an RPG, it's a simulation of life.

I don't care about the mods, I've never tried them and I never will. It's quite simple: The game is, in its original state, one of the greatest video games of all time. But the best thing about it --- Skyrim arrived at the perfect time. It has plenty of technological complexities and dynamics in it to captivate the attention of all fans, both new and old, for decades.

Can't wait for The Elder Scrolls VI but at the same time I want Bethesda to take all the time they need to make the game as epic as Skyrim and Oblivion are.

I remember being on some cart in the beginning. I walked up the road, looted a few things from a house and never played it until a few years later when I did the same thing and never played it again.

I feel like this is what 90% of people go through with these games.

I specifically remember starting the game, and after a bit, was walking towards some mountains. Came across a giant, who proceeded to twat me, and with that, I went flying very high, and fast. I finished laughing then turned it off. Never touched it since. 😅

I remember being disappointed with how rough it looked when I first stepped out into the open world, but when I entered a building and saw a crackling firepit I was entranced (Bit weird I know, but I've got a thing about cosy stuff lol)
I can't unlock my front door without thinking about the lockpicking.
Never platted it because it's buggy as fuck.
Gamerpoop machinima of Skyrim is absolutely hilarious.
Bows are fucking awesome.
Stealing shit is fun.
Damn, I want to play it now.

There's almost something philosophical about this game for me, don't know how to put it into words. It feels like home. BethJank has never bothered me. ES6 is THE game I'm waiting for.

I played it originally on the Xbox 360 and never finished it. Playing it in VR is what I'll remember most. Completed it on psvr1 and now I'm playing it in pcvr modded.

The biggest one comes to my mind is the College of Winterhold missions. I always play as mage in games whenever its possible and Skyrim's CoW missons was really good for me. Also I love cold weathers and Winterhold's chilly weather was the cherry on the top.

My memories...

Install
Install a truckload of mods,
see if it's working
Install a bunch more mods.
Play for 10-20 hours
Install a bunch more mods
install a bunch of new areas and not visit any of them
performance went to shit, break the save.

rinse and repeat in a year or so.
Yep, that’s my yearly Skyrim and Fallout NV / 4 ritual. I spent more time modding and testing mods than playing the game.

Worth it! 😉
