Tom Clancy's The Division - Ubisoft + Massive, MMO Open World TPS RPG

I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it an MMO. They said an online open world game, but I don't see it being a full fledged MMO.

Looks fantastic.

Design, fidelity, UI, animation, environments, mood, pacing. Nothing short of gobsmacking incredible.

Was that actual gameplay running on something or just a clever target render? Because it was fucking amazing.

It is blending a bit with Watch Dogs, and quite a few games now seem to end their videos zooming out on a map with playernames and icons showing a whole persistent online world. They've got to watch out not to oversaturate the wonder of the concept.

If the trend is MMO without the massive-at-once then its about time. Been hoping for exactly that transition for some time. Give me a huge persistent world, a connected economy and the ability to take part in actions that change the landscape and stakes of that world. But you DON'T have to put me in the exact same gamespace with thousands of other players to accomplish this.

This game looked really cool. Seems like what I thought "Watch Dogs" was going to be like last year. I definitely want to see more.

Fuck me.... UBI steals it again... I've never played an MMO, but wow.... game of show has been stolen under Titanfall.

Looked really cool and graphically, it looked superior to anything shown at the Xbone conference. Unless there was some trickery going on (which is very possible), that could bode well for Sony if a multiplatform game (seemingly) running on PS4 looks better than any of Microsoft's Xbox One exclusives.

It looks really nice but I'm going to skip it because it's an MMO/online integrated. I'll get my MMO-like fill with Destiny anyway and BF 4 online gaming, the rest I just want traditional single player experiences. If I can play this solo and it has some sort of story, I'm in though.

Good job though Ubisoft Massive, visuals look stellar and gameplay looks fun. Definite contender for game of show :)

Edit: Yeah it sounds like I can't play this solo vvvvvvv Oh well.

Company Bringing Pioneering Online Open-World Action Role Playing Game to Tom Clancy’s Universe

LOS ANGELES – June 10, 2013 – Today at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Ubisoft announced the development of Tom Clancy’s The Division, a groundbreaking online, open-world Action RPG for Xbox One®, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation® 4 computer entertainment system. The Division will arrive in 2014.

Tom Clancy’s The Division is developed by Massive™ Entertainment, the Sweden-based Ubisoft studio renowned for the World in Conflict® series.

The Division takes place in New York three weeks after a lethal virus, released on Black Friday, has swept through the city. One by one, basic services have failed. Society has collapsed into chaos. The President invokes Presidential Directive 51, and The Division, a top-secret unit of self-supporting tactical agents, is activated. Leading seemingly ordinary lives, Division agents are trained to operate independently of command in this type of emergency situation. When the lights go out, their mission begins.

In a Tom Clancy’s universe dedicated to realism, players can explore the once-familiar streets and landmarks of the Big Apple, now decimated by looting and overrun by clans that will do anything to survive. From Central Park to the subway to the Statue of Liberty, nowhere is safe. Discover a persistent, online, open-world New York where exploration, combat, and RPG player-progression are essential.

“Our goal with Tom Clancy’s The Division is nothing short of completely changing the way people play online RPGs,” said Fredrik Rundqvist, executive producer, Ubisoft. “With the power of next-gen consoles behind it, The Division puts players in the middle of breathtaking, persistent multiplayer thriller in which they will explore, fight and work together as modern society collapses around them, all with the authenticity for which Tom Clancy’s games are renowned.”

The game is the latest title set in the Tom Clancy’s™ universe, which has sold more than 76 million games worldwide across its different franchises. Other forthcoming Tom Clancy’s-branded experiences from Ubisoft include Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® Blacklist™ developed by Ubisoft Toronto, which delivers a gripping modern-day special-ops storyline with a new level of technical innovation and quality. This looked cool.

If it's a full-on MMO then I have no interest, but if it's something in between a single-player and multi-player game, then I might be interested, depending on how it works.

Basically, If I have to join guilds, and "make friends" and all that nonsense, then I'm not gonna play this. If I can just pop in and play as a lone wolf, and run around and fuck with people, or play with random people occasionally for the "team" experience, then I might want it.

or.... they will look similar .... different devs, different focus etc... apples and oranges blah blah blah

Looks ok...I'm not sure Tom Clancy is what I think of watching this. Sad no Wii U or pc announcement.

I kept imaging the women in that video as being slippy when she talked. Annoying.

Ubisoft really makes games that appeal to me. I was always into third person action/adventure games with exploration, melee combat, rpg elements etc etc... So between AC4, Watch_Dogs and now the Division, Ubi is going to get a lot of my money.

Probably the best graphics I have ever seen. My God.

However, Im already sick of this trend of MP and SP being "merged" together... Yuck. I want to play games by myself sometimes.

Anyone notice he closed the police car door as he moved along it?

(sorry if already posted, Gaf is on the fritz)

EDIT: Yep, beaten.

The UI makes me wet. I love how slick it looks. lol, I kinda hope this is a game you can play solo. A lot of MMOs support solo play.

Extremely good graphically. Best graphics shown at E3 so far. Bodes well that it was running on the PS4. Thought some of the stuff at the XO conference looked a bit ropey, though Ryse takes the second place spot. Also beautiful. Strangely, I didn't think BF4 looked that great. Massive downgrade since the Baku 17 min gameplay demo or what?

Really liked the look of this, graphics were great for something I assume is far from release, the ui was perfect, it looked good was clean add didn't take up much space. the tablet integration could be quite interesting, wonder if the Vita could be used in the same way.
