Tom Cruise goes off on filming crew over not following COVID precautions

I can see where he's coming from; it wouldn't take much for a power-hungry governor to swoop in and shut you down over nothing.

At the same time, I would be lying like a motherfucker to the state.

"No, we NEVER broke any of your arbitrary, impossible to follow rules that change every 15 minutes! That noise in the background? No, there's no party! It's just a video call! Ay, stop sucking a second, girl; I'm on the phone."

He and the director literally rented out a private island to get this film finished.

There's impacting the bottom line and then there is trying to save the industry and making sure people have jobs so they can support their families.

His anger here is absolutely justified.

No, it isn’t. Let’s be honest, cruise is still getting more money out of the production of this film than the majority of the folks working on it out together. If he was truly so worried about keeping the industry going and people having jobs, he would take massive pay cuts - but he isn’t. He doesn’t actually care. It’s all an act.

Even if you knew he's yelling at you because it's your fault you put the entire project at risk?

If you're not in the wrong, by all means push back, but if you fucked up, take the L and don't make that mistake again.
We don't even know what they did. Were they standing closer than six feet? Did they have the mask down below their nose? But none of that matters. It's not that Tom was wrong. It was that Tom was talking to them like he was their father instead of an employer. Now maybe your boss talks to you like that and you are ok with it. I'd rather just be fired than let my boss know he can do that and I just take it.

edit and if you are wondering I have told my boss to dial it back a notch.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
Actually respect him for this. He didn't make up the Covid regulations, he's not the one stopping things from happening. He just doesn't want the entire fucking production shut down like has happened to so many others.

The future of the entire movie industry is riding on a few big names this upcoming year... I think the COVID rules are bullshit but if it’s the difference between being employed and your entire industry being destroyed then everybody needs to be at their A-game.

See I don't buy that the Cruise missile it at the mercy of the governor or whoever shuts him down either. If anything he would be cheering along all this great reset commie crap.

lol i thought he was a nice guy. there is no reason to go off like this. just fire the folks and be calm. no need to throw a hissy fit.

Lame.

Not everybody responds to calm; sometimes you gotta drop the ban hammer. Also it sounds like this production has already been shut down before due to COVID cases/exposure.

I had a boss that talked like this and the crew allowed it cause he made us money and sheltered us from getting fired from our own stupidity but we also despised him. One of the guys tried to fight him over it(wanted to throw down in the office and told him to go outside so they could fight and locked him out lol) but yet got to keep his job. It is a weird position to be in but covid is just weirder.

So is Mission Impossible 7 going to be a theatre only release? By then vaccinations will be available for everyone right? Or will we see this movie as a stream and theatre release?

His temper is even funnier when you realize he's like 5'4. He says and tells people 5'7 but if you watch films and compare him to actresses, he's definitely shorter than that. He also always wears heels.

This shortguy getting all pepping yelling at adults.

"If I can't deal with you with reason, if you can't be reasonable." says the guy who thinks aliens nuked the volcanos with b52 bombers millions of years ago.

What everyone here is missing:

Right or wrong, we don't know. We lack essentially all context.

But that tone is Tom Cruise fully embracing bitch mode. He's a tool of the highest order. He sounds like a spoiled, ragey 12 year old boy on Dr. Phil.

He's not acting like a prima donna, he's trying to keep the movie going so EVERYONE can get paid
One thing we've learned during this pandemic is that not everyone is reasonable and listens to sound arguments when it comes to mask wearing
Nope, dude had to lay the law down and I bet he gets results

Don't understand what prompted his tirade but I can't imagine how tenuous filming is with so many people involved, so many locations and variables. No matter if you agree with the masks and social distancing or whatever it's clear they're only able to film and produce because they're doing what the company and country they're at expects. I would imagine the pressure of keeping all that shit tied up would be pretty immense, even for a guy with a nearly endless supply of cash like Cruise.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
Nah he's right. One slip up and thousands of dollars are lost
His reasoning is correct, but there is never an excuse to berate people like that. You can earn respect through admiration or fear. It seems Thom uses fear.

He's not wrong. No matter what political side you are on with COVID, if there were to be an outbreak on the movie set they would have the shut the movie down for a period of time costing thousands.

He just a passionate man. He is tumescent with rage. I think is so far gone that he just lives in that zone 24/7. We are just living in his brilliant slip stream, trying to paddle out of his wake. Only problem is He is so tightly wound. When he snaps. The cruise missile will go off big time. I fear only Keanu can save us.

For all we know it was the third time this happened or something, hard to say, but when safety is concerned I've never had a problem with zero tolerance for bullshittery. And if for whatever reason the whole project could get shut down over lapses in protocol, a little verbal ass whooping isn't uncalled for.

I wasn't there and don't know the context but Cruise puts his money where his mouth is, if I had to bet I'd say they deserved a verbal lashing and he gave them another chance to make good on their commitment to the project.

"Guys I'm gonna jump off this building without a parachute but if one of you motherfuckers isn't wearing a mask you're endangering me, fucko!"
No it’s more like in his mind , he has gone into saviour mode for the movie industry and he personally feels he is responsible for it all.

It’s admirable in a way but

This is the level he holds himself too. Yeah it must take a lot out of you.

He has saved lives before, so I gotta respect him for that.

Nahh dude, there is never an excuse. I understand Tom is a producer and he knows what works on his space, but this was a diva episode. I lead people at my job too, and I know that there are multiple ways to address the negative behavior of teammates without completely demoralizing them in front of others. Tom sees these people as expendable, hence the firing threats, but if he really cared about them as teammates, he would treat them differently.

Also, I love the hypocrisy on Twitter. There are tons of NPC’s cheering on Tom for this, but I bet that the moment their boss calls them out on their own mistakes at their job, they’d go cry on social media.

Nah you don’t yell at people like that

he’s a control freak and a complete nut. Crazy guy divorced all of his 3 wives when they turned 33. It’s all a game to him

anyway how do they enforce social distancing in the whole film? What will happen to all the close ranged combat actions? Guess no kissing/hugging/romance either?

Hes right, my boss had a similar if less heated rant in the Summer: I work at a restaurant and for a few months we were takeout only. Once we were open fully my boss informed us 27 of our stores went back to takeout only because so many people needed quarantine because they stopped caring.

A lot of jobs are on the line, and even in just my restaurant I could cost hundreds of coworkers their income for weeks because I went to a house party.

We are in this together and too many dont accept that severity.

Tom Cruise is a covidiot? Edit: Hmm maybe not, I see he makes no mention of people getting sick, spreading the plandemic, etc. He only mentions the movie getting shut down and nothing else!

Is he aware the restrictions are retarded and inconsistent as fuck?

One thing though, you can’t be some pussy doing this. You better be ready to throw if you’re talking to grown men this way. I suspect Tom is, he’s pretty fearless in general.

Tom Cruise makes every movie he is in better simply by being in it

Not a single bad Tom Cruise performance I can think of. GOAT living actor, alongside Matt Damon, for me

He is definitely legit. He steals every movie he's in; super focussed, doesn't half ass anything. That he would get so pissed like this isn't the least bit surprising.

Why do people give Tom Cruise the benefit of the doubt here? The guy has lived 80 percent of his entire life in, not one but two bizarre bubbles (Hollywood since his early 20s + golden child in a cult religion) that produces narcissistic, out of touch, brats.

I'll side with the blue collar working class crew here...if we're judging without context.

General Patton he is not.
