Tom Henderson: Next God of War is 2.5D/metroidvania - Smaller scale than Initially thought

I prefer that to Santa Monica wasting time on a full blown AAA sequel. I'd much prefer a new IP instead, they have been doing GoW since PS2 days, come on we need new ideas at some points.
Sony Santa Monica is roughly 400 employees. The vast majority are surely working on Cory Barlog's new AAA IP. They are not a big enough studio yet to work on two AAA projects simultaneously, like Naughty Dog or Insomniac. This game seems like a perfect AA side project for the studio

Santa Monica has been one of the few Sony studios that has grown in recent years, with no major layoffs

Man i truly like Playstation and have always been with them since PSOne but...how is it that they give everyone everything EXCEPT what their audience actually wants?

Who in their right mind was at a meeting and thought "hey you know what kind of God of War game everyone wants?" and thinks about this...

Where's Bloodborne remake? Where's the next Uncharted? Where's the countless dormant IPs that never flopped that could be having new games?

I look at stuff like this and whatever the new Bungie studio is doing (the one that was just formed) and i wonder how did we get to this point.

Like...i am a huge fan of smaller scaled games but don't they do any market research for these things?

I seriously hope whatever Mediamolecule is doing is good. And Team Asobi even if it's a new Astrobot.

Is it seriously a big deal if we already got a major GOW game this gen and this is just a small budget spin-off?
It's not even the first 2D action GOW game, lol.

Also, I'm one of the types who thinks that Sony shouldn't overfocus on the loud minority hardcore PlayStation fanbase, but that's besides the matter.

Wow. When you've lost Tiago, you've lost the last fan of your userbase.

This reminds me of Nintendo released Metroid Dread when everyone had been waiting almost 12 years for an AAA metroid game. The execs over at Sony are completely out of touch with their fanbase.

Meanwhile, in the real world:
The worst part is that this point of comparison makes no sense when we're definitely having AAA God of War games. Hardcore fanbase types are the most annoying group out there.
 
Fans for months: we want remasters of the trilogy
PlayStation: You want a side scroller?
I'd honestly support something like this over the slew of remasters and remakes to send a clear and sound message. I'm so done with this recycled content culture that's been ecnouraged among AAA developers for the past decade or so.

Imagine going from GOW18 to a side scroller 2.5D game, and I thought Naughty Doge output was disappointing 🤦‍♂️
 
First people were begging for Sony to develop smaller scale games. Now people will complain because these smaller scale games are not what they wanted. lol

It can be a incredible game if doing right, Price of Persia the Lost Crown and Metroid Dread are amazing games.

Plus I remember how awesome GOW Betrayal was on the phone when I was in High School. It definitely can work very well and we've already had so many examples of incredible 2.5D metroidvanias.

I'd take a new remastered GOW with all 6 games (from 1 to Ascencion + the 2 PSP ones) than this tbh lmao.
 
I love my side scrollers and I think they could do something neat with GOW, I've always dreamt of a game like this, can't wait.
 
So it's just the java game with better resolution?

I guess it's better than hearing a pain in the ass teenager with his nordic vegan diversity feminist friend telling everything I should do
 
Developers of god of war aren't paying attention, people are returning to older PS2/3 era god of war games, looking back at god of war 2018, to Ragnarok what a waste…
