True brother. But whatever they're doing it's working. Im a huge gears fan and by next year I would have been waiting 6 years; for a franchise that's churned out 4 games on the 360..
I think that's just the nature of gaming now unfortunately, with dev times and costs increasing.

On the up side at least a new Gears is announced now.

I don’t see how they could make your entire library play anywhere. Some games, NCAA and MLB come to mind, don’t have any level of PC support. So unless they somehow turn the Xbox app into some kind emulator, you won’t have access to your full library. Right?

Not that long ago Freegunners were screaming about physical media, single player games, market consolidation and first-party.

Now they're all about streaming, PC launchers, third-party exclusivity and acquisitions.

Microsoft was always operating in areas the market wasn't ready for. Sony just waited for the dust to settle before doing the exact same things.
That's unhealthy, you see what I'm saying?

Players can buy PlayStation games from the PlayStation App on both Android and iOS.

How is a temporary administrative stay only preventing Xbox from doing that? Sounds like a bullshit statement to me, especially when we see in the context of Google's response.

Most of Xbox leadership is intellectually bankrupt and also insanely dishonest. Some of them are just borderline retarded (Greenberg). They want to offload their failures to the MS legal department. When MS loses the case, they gonna go to Papa Nutella and say we were gonna make it but the legal team lost and so we will always be in 3rd place. Honestly even if they win the case, they will still be in 3rd place but with a new excuse. They really need to clean house at Xbox and bring in a new leadership team instead of the current crop of pity party loving losers.

Yep. The $3 trillion mega corporation is always the "victim" of smaller corporations. Crocodile's tears and all.

Yeah. MS is probably just crying about having to give Google/Apple a 30% cut.

IDK what they thought being a 3rd party publisher would mean 🤣

This must be the "infamous marching orders"

"It's not our fault we suck, the reason we can't give our customers what they want is <insert rotating villain>"

SMFH I can't believe these clowns are allowed to run anything at a multitrillion dollar corporation

Honestly, I don’t care anymore. Once Xbox decided it wanted out of consoles and to be everywhere and on everything, spreading themselves real thin, they completely lost me. I don’t care what an Xbox is anymore. I lost interest years ago.

So whatever they decide to do, I hope some little fucking millennial loves never owning what he plays just so it’s convenient that he can continue playing on the bus cause he’s a fucking loser who doesn’t want to interact in the real world and instead decides to continue playing his latest game on his iPhone/xbox/whatever.

I think he's just missing one important point - ""This is an Xbox" slogan will make more sense soon". For whom will this be obvious? For the company and investors or for the players? These are two slightly different things, and yes, I suppose that expanding the market and moving Xbox brand to more platforms and devices will certainly please investors (More money is always good), but these are not the steps that the players expect from them.

Even then there are significant licensing issues. Those games were not licensed to sell on PC. Even if you can get them to work without needing additional development from the owners, you still have to get them to agree to license it for free, which they won't do unless they're getting a cut and if there is no cut to be had, where is the incentive for them?

They are too early. Gamers still expect that games are bound to a piece of plastic with a label. In a few years people expect that they can play their ‘bought’ games anywhere. Now we all feel it’s like they are giving up and going third party all the way.

Exactly! Perhaps they are used to giving 0% cut on the Xbox store that they own. But if they are gonna use someone else's platform and traffic, they'll have to offer them their cut as well.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. The world isn't gonna hand them any freebies. The same rule applies to every other publisher. IDK why they want special treatment, when they themselves keep that cut when 3rd party publishers publish their shit on the Xbox store lol.

Honestly do you guys have a rational thought before you lean into bizarre warring?

Instead of just calling a spade a spade, you have to rationalise stupidity with insane arguments.

Apparently Xbox has been making these crazy, mad moves, but the people just aren't ready! So since Xbox one in 2013 launched the world wasn't ready or too stupid to understand. But then the dust settles and Sony just magically copies and reaps the rewards

Son I hate to tell you this but sonys the one making the right moves. Meanwhile, the honourable gentleman sir Phil Spencer has been throwing as much mad moves (shit) at a wall hoping something will stick. Instead of simply releasing great games; while simultaneously crying about how hard it is to make great games.

We are 4 years into this gen and we haven't got a single gears or halo exclusive for next gen. Halo was cross gen and gears 5 released in 2019. Let that sink in.
Strap yourself in for a 10 page response.

Xbox has defin- oh look, corn!

I used Gamepass cloudgaming, or whatever it's called, a few years ago and was mightily impressed by how well it worked on my potato Android phone. I remember playing Jedi Survivor and being completely immersed despite the small 6,67" screen. I also couldn't believe how the input barely had any lag at all. Very cool service. It's a very good substitute for those who don't want to invest in a console, though I think local gaming is always better. One shitty thing though was that there was no native app on iPadOS so I had to use a browser and it never felt as stable. Don't know if it's a Apple or MS problem. Another problem is that very few will be able to use it on the go unless they have a very good service provider and unlimited data on their phone.

So should Google just give a separate deal to Microsoft compared to other companies? I don't know about US law, but that wouldn't fly in the EU.

It can be argued that the 30% cut (which also Apple and Steam do) is too much, but I don't see why one company should get preferential treatment. Even if everything is an Xbox.
He was taking the piss.

Phil Spencer has had a negative effect on my mental health, what a cunt, he was like a father to me and now hes mugging me off like this, I got a framed photo of him but think that will be replaced soon with some other prick who will inevitably crush me again down the line.
The customers are not at the center as Phil said, they're in a simulation with no f clue about what's really going on, this is hard-core Satanism here we're talking.

Yep, just redeemed some PS Stars points and will buy FF7 Rebirth on there shortly lol.

Remarkable how MS turned into the Karen company lately.

They're going to announce Xbox Game Pass cloud streaming for refrigerators, window ac units, PS5 and microwaves.

This burrito microwaved on an Xbox! Stream your entire Xbox library from the comfort of your kitchen tile floor!

My point being, what's actually stopping MS from partnering with an OEM and launching a handheld quickly to get their foot in the door?
Because everything at Microsoft or a company of this size requires months of studies and dozens of approvals from people that also require months of project study, etc. That's why start-ups in general are more agile than large corporations.

My guess is they will get nowhere the amount of data and analytics as having it officially on the App Store.
That, and also IMHO - while I think it's great that those who know how can do whatever with the hardware they own, without jailbreaking or whatnot, I don't think it's a good idea to teach Johnny Average how to install random APKs from the net. That's just a disaster waiting to happen.

Windows Phone was an epic self-own by MS. They had decent hardware from Nokia, and by all accounts Windows Phone was a nice enough mobile OS and surely could have been improved.

Then they tied every version of the OS to a particular chipset, which means no upgrades for older hardware. This caused third-party manufacturers to bail pretty much immediately, and even when it comes to their own phones - Apple fanatics may buy the latest model every year, but it's a hard sell to the general public.

Windows Mobile up to 6 was really powerful, and HTC made a great skin for it.

Nokia provided Microsoft with everything they needed, including two great OSes, one that didn’t even need more work to modernise.

Windows Phone 10 was actually really good.

They threw all of that away.

Oh no no no. That was decidedly not the case.

I took the mobile programming course at uni (we were a Nokia town at the time, not production but R&D) like at least three times. It was divided into two parts. First was the J2ME part (so basically Series 40 - there were no native apps outside Nokia). It was... fine. Depending on the level of the SDK, there were some limitations (like no floating point numbers if you were stuck with 1.0), but if you knew J2SE, no worries.

And then we moved onto Series 60, or rather Symbian. Now, Symbian had some things going for it, like the ability to run on a potato - because it was developed when the hardware was a potato. But that in turn meant that it lacked all the kinds of niceness you'd except from modern C++ - it was like a bastard child of C++-- with a ton of macros. A few weeks in, I'd always go "fuck it", and gave up. Never finished that course.

If you mean Qt, that came too late. If you mean Maemo... that's just too painful, don't talk about it. But MS would never have gone with a Linux-based OS.

Qt is everywhere now, and it did not come too late.

As for Maemo, it was far more capable than any mobile OS at the time and even now. Meego was better still. And it's still around in various forms to this day, including in Samsung smart TVs and until the pig that is WearOS was adopted, their watches too.

It did come too late, Nokia was already in the decline at the time. The Qt-enabled phones had still resistive touchscreens FFS. BTW, this message was brought to you by a laptop running KDE Plasma 6.2, so yes, I am quite well aware of Qt.

I don't think the inheritance of Maemo -> Tizen is so clear. Distantly related, perhaps. The notification that got me typing this was brought to me by Galaxy Watch 2.

As a proud owner of a Nokia N900 at the time and even now in a drawer. i can say while the freedom in Maemo was absolutely unbeatable the capabilities were lacking due to software support (unless I started building stuff myself). That's ultimately what killed both Maemo and WP.

N900 was the ultimate geek toy. I loved to SSH to my desktop, then run apps on my N900 with X11 forwarding. I mean, it was utterly pointless. But still, somehow, oh-so-cool. And the fact that you could get "gainroot" from the official repos.

I still have it somewhere here. The battery is probably dead by now, but it may otherwise be still functional. Maybe I should take her for a spin again, just for the sake of it. Good memories.

The fact that its built-in messaging app could amalgamate all messaging services at the time into one thread per contact... isn't even done now.

Android apps even ran with Alien Dalvik. It not having a capacitive touchscreen was the only real issue.

Isn’t it to do with using the same app to buy and play as any in app purchases with let you play the game need to give them 30 percent. , which is why PlayStation has a separate remote play app. Something stupid like that

So now it's the gamer's fault? Why would people expect to play a Super Mario game on PC or their PS6?

Microsoft wants Xbox to move into your TV, laptop, car, phone, router, tablet, fire stick, Roku, they want Xbox to take over the world like a siri, or alexa, remember the Xbox one being a tv machine? Awesome idea but it was one of Microsoft’s worse marketing moves along with the head scratcher Kinect a failed product.

Most genZ expect to play their games everywhere. On iPad, xbox, pc, playstation, switch. They don’t care. They just want to play Fortnite, Minecraft etc. and they do expect that it is possible to play their games everywhere.
