Xbox always made sense, right?

If its some cloud app , it would suck
Cloud is a good add-on for If I'm on vacation and work and can't access my console.
Cloud gaming as a premium product or some of a push just doesn't make sense to me

The next Xbox "console" will boot Steam I believe.

Doesn't make any sense as people would go for the cheaper option (Steam) and Microsoft will would out on their 30% revenue and potential online subscription which Steam doesn't require. It also won't make any sense regarding their slogan. It's more like "This is a Steam machine".

We already know that we will be able to stream all out Xbox games to all our devices. (Couldn't care less about cloud gaming, and I'm not going to support it).

So unless it's something major like the rumored "Microsoft is buying Steam", I don't get the surprise.

What do you think he is alluding to?
New console announcement?
Xbox mode for windows devices?
More focus on cloud gaming?

This is all about the cloud push initiative. Any device you’re using to read this can be considered an Xbox with Xbox Cloud Gaming. I actually like the ad, and once more details leak, people will understand it. They’ll realize that Xbox isn’t just a console; it’s all about gaming. That’s their goal.

If you don’t like cloud, don’t worry; they have a console and a handheld coming. This is just their way of cornering the gaming market. If you game, you can do it on Xbox anywhere!

Pretty obvious...they are just going to release their cloud streaming app on a bunch of new devices, it's already on my Samsung TV. So I guess THAT IS AN XBOX now too.

Oh yeah. So maybe cloud streaming is coming out of beta or something?

Didn't I see the quality had improved or is that incorrect?

Yep, pretty much. Actually as long as you purchase games from the XBOX/MS store you should be able to play them anywhere (on supported devices) such as your Samsung TV.

Also there was a rumor of the XBOX app for LG tvs not too long ago

Ms marketing scraping the barrel, where do they come up with this shit 😂 can I call my dick a Xbox now, my wife would love that, darling can I play with ur xbox.

Guys like Warren should just shut the fuck up and fuck off instead of running embarrassing interference for Microsoft. Wasting electricity posting this nonsense.

It won't "make sense" in the way of actually boosting the platform. If everything's an Xbox, nothing is.

Despite the avalanche of jokes, I think the new marketing has been a success. It gets the message across. Sounds like its timed to lead into an announcement. All pretty logical.

What message did it get across exactly?

What is the message? Explain.

What's that messaging?

That there is no need to buy Xbox and having a PlayStation will give you access to both Xbox and Playstation games?

It's a s move until Sony decides to do the same thing.
Not that long ago Freegunners were screaming about physical media, single player games, market consolidation and first-party.

Now they're all about streaming, PC launchers, third-party exclusivity and acquisitions.

Microsoft was always operating in areas the market wasn't ready for. Sony just waited for the dust to settle before doing the exact same things.

Gee I sure hope I can wrap my mind around Xbox finally taking a distribution method similar to any streaming service under the fucking sun. Thankfully I have some atom splitter like Tom to help me.

On a more serious note: Xbox should have did this 5 years ago with Game Pass AT LEAST. It’s the only service akin to Netflix where you can’t continue your progress from one platform to another seamlessly(with the exception of a few games).

Phil Spencer has had a negative effect on my mental health, what a cunt, he was like a father to me and now hes mugging me off like this, I got a framed photo of him but think that will be replaced soon with some other prick who will inevitably crush me again down the line.

Probably Microsoft embracing GaaS fully through a recurring paid subscription service on multiple devices, either with games processed locally or remotely via streaming.
Always remember that Microsoft only makes hardware to promote it's software, the whole Xbox thing is an anomaly in their ecosystem, and not a very successful one too.

Maybe he knows that the next step of their multiplatform plans are about to be announced. Xbox hardware is bound to become an optional product licensed to OEMs?

Of course you'd say that, lol. No one outside of the gaming community seems to be talking about this; you know, the people it is trying to reach. I guess you'd say Jaguar's marketing has been a success too (if the car has a screen it is an Xbox, right? :D).

The OEM Xbox idea makes sense for Microsoft because they can run the Xbox OS business the same way they run the Windows OS business: Sell the OEM OS keys to MSI/Lenovo/Asus/etc while keeping their hands out of the R&D, manufacturing and distribution game. These guys have a potentially lucrative new business segment that just popped up: PC Handhelds and they want it to grow, but Windows 11 as it currently stands is absolutely hampering their efforts to do so, they need MS to come up with a OS (or at least a new UI) that cuts the bloat and can be navigated easily with a controller/touch screen.

That way Microsoft would finally be able to focus on growing the gaming variant of what they do best: Software and Services.

I think the shift towards who's reacting happened already.

Recently, I bought the 4k Firestick that plugs into any tvs HDMI port for 20$ or so. You can download the Xbox app and play any games on gamepass from it using Cloud. I just used my PS5 controller, works fine. Quality isn't the greatest, but definitely sufficient enough for me. As a first time Xbox player, kind of dissapointed with their exclusives, though. Hopefully that changes soon.

It's a good plan.
Stop Xbox production, buy PS5s, add the Xbox logo to the box and resell them with the Playstation 5 Xbox name, shareholders will go crazy with massive increase in sales and Sony won't mind because their sales of games/consoles go up!
Phil is a genius!

Microsofts marketing and higher up management is full of brain dead idiots.
I mean they have literally killed the Xbox hardware themselves and now pushing this bs which Im 110 percent sure is cloud gaming on any device.
I've said it before cloud is a good alternative when Ur not home.
Cloud fucking sucks dick if Ur only subbed for it , it just doesn't make sense

Before the iPhone, Apple partnered with motorola and ported iTunes to a model of the ROKR dumbphone. Here's a photo of it:
Motorola-ROKR.jpg

It was a dismal failure, but got their feet wet when it came mobile phones. My point being, what's actually stopping MS from partnering with an OEM and launching a handheld quickly to get their foot in the door? There are so many companies that would probably bite their hand off to partner with them.

ASUS, AYANEO, Lenovo, Anbernic, GPD, OneXPlayer...

Put together a launcher designed for handhelds, maybe make it part of their existing Xbox app, like Steam's BIG mode, instead we have Xbox handheld mode... combined with Xbox Smart Delivery, bob's your uncle... an Xbox handheld. Seems like it should be easy for them.
Behind the scenes, they can develop their own in-house handheld. MS + XBox already have all the elements to get into this nascent industry... it's genuinely suprising that they are planning on waiting for another couple of years before jumping in.

Anyone who buys a MS handheld is a fool. If they will ever release one it will be abandoned in 18 months. My evidence, the multiple times they have tried to break into that space with music players, phones, etc.

They will put stupid restrictions on it that will ruin the experience.

I would assume The Game Awards is where it will be addressed unless someone lets the cat out of the bag early

Get ready to hear the term ecosystem brought up again.
