Tomb Raider |OT| Lara's Misfortune

hehe true, variety is the key. But what I liked about HR were the interactive cut scenes, I know I may be in the minority on this but I prefer interactive / qte cutscenes to normal ones. Seeing characters jump through windows or off buildings CoD-style in a cutscene just doesnt cut it anymore, at the very least I want to have some sort of input. It maybe as simple as "pushing foward" but to me it's very important that the game shows me that I'm still part of the action.

Definitely agree with you there. It's all about getting the feeling of actually being part of the story, which most FPSs/Action games fail to deliver these days.

it is if you use her survivor instincts aka detective mode.

It's obvious for the most part, but you can reach some hidden areas via 'environmental exploration'. Yes there are a few moment that require you to think about how you are getting there, but outside of the tombs they are relatively sparse.

Thanks for the info

I can not stress enough just how atmospheric this game is. It's unreal! The amount of polish and detail is absolutely nuts! I find myself just walking around aimlessly just so I can enjoy soaking in the atmosphere....

And graphically the game is absolutely stunning and easily one of the best looking games of the gen. The art-style is drop-dead gorgeous! The combat is also surprisingly great. Be excited people, this one’s special!

Shut up you're making me excited! :)

Some of these set pieces... HOLY SHIT! I know people love to compare this to Uncharted, but WHEN WILL UNCHARTED?

is it just the setpiece or also what do you within? Uncharted impresses me the most with what you do right now and shit is happening left and right. Boat for example :)

I was going to get this on GMG last night, but I missed the 20% off deal, since I had to create a new account and stuff. But I got an email saying the voucher had been extended, so now it's preloading. This will be my first game to play on my recently built gaming rig. Well, I had built most of it 6 months ago, but I just got a graphics card last week.

I can't wait to see what kind of supernatural elements this game will have, I've always loved that aspect of things from previous games (even in Uncharted too). I know nothing about this or if there will be any so I can't wait to find out when I explore this game soon. No one dare respond or hint from this post.

3 more days...... :_(

Guess Camilla will have to keep us going.

Calm down Solo, you will only have to wait a few more days until you can put those head phones on and just visualize with the audio porn you so wanted from the voice of Camilla, you dirty plough son of a whoreson.

BTW: The German voice actress Nora Tschirner really does a good job here.

Karolina Gorczyca from Poland also did well.

I found a tomb that was really windy... and after ~20 minutes I still can't get inside. The puzzle is somewhat simple (I think), I just can't god damn get it.

There's a switch that covers the wind for a moment. And another switch which raises a platform. You're supposed to get on the platform after turning the switches off and when they reset, the wind pushes the platform over towards the wall and you jump off and grab the wood panel
. I just can't time it right or something.... It's reaaaaaaaaaally frustrating. I guess it doesn't help that I'm really tired, but ehhh

Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about and/or how to do it?

Go ahead and close the wind coming in. Go by lever, wait for part of the wind to start coming back in. Then pull switch, get on, and take a ride

The solution is simple.
Activate window and then wait a while before raising the platform. That way you will catch much more wind.

cover the windows first, then rise the platform and get on it but stay at far left of the platform and as soon as the wind pushes the platform over towards the wall run on the platform and jump toward the wall

How much of a timesink are the multiplayer achievements going to be?

I hope I can get Dust Elysian Tail finished off before this Tuesday!

Just finished the game, I would have liked to have stretched it out a little more over the course of a week but I was enjoying it so much I couldn't help but keep playing.

I loved it, and really enjoyed that final level, I was worried some of that combat at the end would be a drag, but it was all lots of fun. By the time the game was over I was really excited about the series' future. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where Crystal Dynamics take the series next gen, they did an excellent, excellent job.

Great game!

Thought so. For some reason I just couldn't get it though (maybe I was jumping too early?). Will try again tomorrow I thinks.

....

What's the deal with the multiplayer in this game? I bought for the singleplayer of course, but both times I tried searching for games today (once at around lunchtime for about 15 minutes and at about 9pm tonight for more than half an hour) I couldn't find any other players at all. Well, I take that back. I joined two games and both times I had a single other person in my game who was also on my team... but I have yet to play a proper game.

Is this a problem on my end?

It could be. Or it could also be because the game's release date hasn't even hit yet and anyone that's playing the game is playing single player. :p

God the mp is woeful. Took me half an hour to find a game (ps3) and when I did, a 2 vs 1 tdm, the guy on the other team was invincible!!!!!!!!

Is anyone even online playing this? Would love to see the numbers lol.

Nice to see the positive reactions so far. I remember watching that IGN 1 hour live stream awhile back and really liking what I saw only to see everyone on GAF taking one giant collective shit on it.

Formerly worldrevolution. The only reason I am nice to anyone else is to avoid being banned.
Are people really wondering why mp is empty when the game hasn't even released in all regions >.>

I'm probably just over half way through the game and I can't take this crap anymore. This game is more scripted than a call of duty game. There's way too much shooting and very little exploration. The puzzles, if you can call them that, are very simple. This game has nothing to do with Tomb Raider. Damn you Crystal Dynamics for taking the series in this direction. There are positives but Uncharted trumps this effort in all aspects.

RIP Tomb Raider.

Are you sure you didn't pick up a copy of some other game by accident?

It's actually nice to see this kind of comment because it illuminates the fact that some people did not accept the focus on scripted gameplay from this gen. Not to say the people who like the game in the thread are wrong for liking it, but it def shows how tastes have shifted.

Mulitplayer seems like it will be a drag, and it's not the most enjoyable experience. I've been playing for about an hour or so.

but you need to get to Prestige 3 - Levevl 59 or something. That's crazy.

But then how can you like Uncharted better?

Started playing this on my PS3. :)

Good first impression, but the framerate is wonky at times, there seems to be some input lag as well. Looks somewhat decent but I expect much more for the PC version.

I was gonna edit..

Though Uncharted is just as scripted as CoD, so..surely TR is less just from the inclusion of non-linear areas and backtracking. So I'm not sure about his comment either.

All games are scripted in many ways. The only difference is that developers hide it away more better with the illusion of freedom and game mechanic trickery. That's why game design is the core of making a game feel less scripted than other titles. When you all boil it down they tread the same stuff.

Got the Survival edition for Ps3 in the mail this morning. Good lord, these graphics are jaw dropping considering the hardware. It seems to run on the same engine as Hitman, same lighting effect and all. There seems to be no install and the load times are almost nonexistent.

Gameplay is no slouch either. I enjoy TR more than Uncharted so far. Its just the bigger areas, sidetracking, backtracking and other stuff you can do where Uncharted is strictly a shooting gallery with some simple puzzles for a break. TR 2013 is no TR Anniversary in terms of exploration, no, but its better than none at all.

I also like this particular Lara Croft character a lot.

Apparently it's an updated edition of whatever Deus Ex: Human Revolution was using, which in turn was developed from Legend/Underworld.

It's not Glacier2.
