Tony Hawk 4 wont have career mode

I can see why the devs would choose to do this, the structure of THPS4 is way different but also the game is alot more tedious, and while it may appeal for nostalgia, I can see audiences now sort of being perplexed by it.

So you just wandered around an area accepting 2 minute challenges from random NPCs, I'm not sure this is the catastrophic loss some are making it out as…
I loved 4, and this isn't phasing me personally. I understand there are purists and all that, but I agree. There are many that also welcome the change.

Not sure exactly what this means, if we do get to start missions by talking to NPCs or not, but we see stuff different than the 2 minutes regular goals here. When we see a timer in the video, it actually increases instead of decreasing, so it's not a 2 minutes classic goal.

Should've just made THPS3 a half-price standalone. Then work on and release a proper THPS4 remake in a year or two, would make more sense anyway given the different structure.

THPS 1+2 / 2020 / $49.99
THPS 3 / 2025 / $24.99
THPS 4 / 2026-2027 / $29.99
THU 1+2 / ~2032 / $49.99-59.99

The career mode from 4 is fully cut. Fuck these developers and fuck all the gaming outlets not reporting in this, in an effort to make you purchase the game and obfuscate information

Its just a two minute timer with some shit ass goals like collect SKATE.

Fuck these retarded developers in the anal cavity

Tech just isn't there

It's been 20 years since I played a Tony Hawk game but wasn't the career mode the main part of the game?lol....

what's with devs resuscitating dormant franchises and then straight up ignoring what made them loved in the first place?
I get the disappointment with 3+4 Remake not having 4's career mode, but I find this statement cute. 4's career mode is not even remotely close to what made the franchise loved.

THPS4 was the first game to not be "classic mode" based.
Depending on who you ask the "free mode" of THPS4 was either the best thing ever or really detracting from what made THPS great.
All prior games used the 2 minute classic mode, where you did as many challenges as you could in that 2 minutes.
It made each run matter cuz you had to learn the level, learn the gaps, learn where all the challenges are, and by the time you feel you are ready to move on to the next level, you are acing highscores for free and showing off to all your friends waiting their turn

Personally 2 minute classic career was always what I thought of when I think THPS.

It's a mix of incompetence and laziness. And probably a bit of being cheapskates too.

You really think free mode is what made THPS loved in the first place over classic mode?
Mate its literally called Classic mode?

The timer is what made each run in THPS great.

Dude, this was known day 1 when the game was announced. No one was purposely not reporting that in an effort to make you purchase the game. "Make you purchase the game"??? What does that even mean anyway? No one is making you do shit.

Right. I played 1 and 4 the most but again it's been 20 years so I've basically forgotten details like the time limit.

This would not really be a problem for me...title makes it sound like the career mode was removed all together.

I've read somewhere they're planning to offer an increased time limit as part of accessbility options.

Edit: Here it is - https://press-start.com.au/previews...-hands-on-preview-not-bad-for-an-old-birdman/ - you can extend that up to an hour.
To be honest this feels even more lazy lol Like, they didn't even want to bother adding a new option to turn off the timer, instead they just modified the existing blueprint they had to make a branch with a multiplied timer.
This also isn't a fix at all, because the structure, the challenges, will remain the same, if anything, this feels more like a cheat now, if they created the challenges with 2 minutes in mind... We still won't have the long challenges that wouldn't fit into the 2 minutes, the NPC quests etc.

meh,, no career no play. I never liked tony hawk games anyway. I tried the remake of 1 and 2 when it launched and its just a tricks and score fest for twitchy gamers. I wasn't that type of gamer in my 20s when it came out and I am not now.
I loved skate 1-3 though. The edgyness, the intros, the awesome music, and the open world. It was skateboard the city. It's like what Skate or Die could of been if the series moved on from the nes.
I liked underground.

Thats why its one of the highest rated Tony Hawk games Im sure 💀🤦🏼‍♂️💀🤦🏼‍♂️💀🤦🏼‍♂️💀🤦🏼‍♂️

If you're going to remake THPS4 then remake THPS4.

Of course this basically totally rules out future remakes since they all expanded on THPS4's concepts.

I wouldn't be this disappointed had they not called it 3+4 and instead just called it 3 and said "includes levels from 4"

I don't understand the rationale for dropping the career in THPS4. Surely it's taken them just as much work to design and implement a new career mode into it?

I wonder how long it will take until someone makes a mod that restores the original THPS4 campaign.

It wasnt known, they never gave any concrete info about it. And they kept it vague and never responded to questions about it.

I wouldn't consider myself "in the know", but somehow I knew on March 4th that they weren't including the original THPS 4 career mode and were instead using the traditional 2 minute levels. YOU may not have known, but that doesn't mean there wasn't concrete info on it. It was widely known and debated when the title was announced on 3/4 that this was the case. We're all literally having the same conversation in this thread that we had back in March.

I'm not denying that it's one of the highest rated THPS games, behind 3, 2 and most likely 1 even. There's a shit-ton of terrible THPS games. So just because it's one of the highest rated in the series, again behind 2 and 3 for sure, maybe even 1, it's not what made the franchise loved. I'd say there's 3 games ahead of it that are what made people fall in love with the franchise. 4 wouldn't even have existed otherwise.

4 is my personal least favorite because its my least played one. Didnt bother with the games that came afterwards even.

But to remove what makes it great is retarded

People were done with the limited two minute timer after the first three thps games

Well I posted this topic so... They were being coy and sly about it, and in tweets etc and interviews never fully confirmed they removed the npc's and free roaming nature of thps4.

Is this you on 3/4????

Lmaooo so there isnt the open world aspects to the lvls of 4 anymore, its just the levels in 2 minute runs

The parks from THPS3 and THPS4 have been authentically remade in jaw dropping 4K resolution* with streamlined goals in a two minute format

Oh snap... reading through that older thread about this very topic it turns out you were quite active and actually did know. So basically you just wanted to bring up and old topic and rehash it again. Got it

Yeah, it's clear he knew since March, and has already vented about it back then.

Coming here to screech again months later like he's just finding out. Yikes.

Yeah in no way I'm saying it's the ultimate solution to the problem, but at least it's something. I know I'd definitely consider using it if I was trying to get familiar with the map for the first time, not to make the challenges easier.

Yeah I'm just saying at this point they could have added an option to turn it off completely. It still wouldn't bring back the type of challenges that wouldn't fit in the 2 minutes timer, but it's better than a weird 1 hour timer.
