It works!
Until it doesn't.
She's annoying
Edit: the avclub redesign sucks
Holy fuck. Netflix's Death Note is a failure as an adaptation and only remotely enjoyable if you look at it as its own thing.
I had to force myself to finish it.
Only Ryuk (no surprise) and L (big surprise) were mostly fun to watch.
I'm still waiting to see what live action One Piece ends up looking like
I fully understand wanting to watch a series in its language of origin, but for people to act like dubs are still bad like it's from the '80s or early '90s makes no sense (unless it's Sentai).
If anything, I feel like you're missing out if you only accept one or the other. Jojo made for a really fun rewatch thanks to its dub, even if the sub still has its moments.
Most likely a giant pile of garbage.
I have yet to see live-action stretching that looked good. Somehow there's four Fantastic Four movies and Reed looked terrible in all of them. Granted the first one was made on a budget of string but the ones that actually had (attempted) effort... yeesh.
first look at live-action one piece's luffy
L was fine at first, but after Watari died he somehow became a different character. Especially the part where he was tempted to write in the page. NIiiice sequel baiting by the way
Light acts like a moron through the whole movie, and then suddenly "I'm fucking Xanatos!" None of the impact of the chess maneuvers of the manga/anime. No "I won, exactly as planned" moments.
I was watching a random jojoke and people were complaining about how it was dubbed, even though Diskin has the best "peeving on your coach" voice ever.
EDIT: I just had a thought that Diskin in that clip gives me a Bayonetta impression, somehow.
While watching the Japanese version of Battle Tendency (while no one else can quite pull it off like Tomokazu Sugita), I and some others thought Joseph's voice was a bit too deep >_>
And Ben Diskin was probably like the only guy they were able to hire who could pull off a believable English accent.
Plus - Diskin does already voice a younger version of an Epcar character, so it checks out in a way
Dubbing JoJo into English is one tough job
Yup, Part 4 is when the name changes are going to happen much more often. I think we've still got a few more weeks until the first major name change for Part 3, & most of them aren't really until the 2nd half.Josuke's not really going to have a catchphrase when DiU gets dubbed.
Not to mention all the name changes.
<3
...I also liked that Bruce-guy music in DBZ.
Please please please don't spoil upcoming moments in the next HxH arcs. I really want to see fresh reactions to those.
I think part of the issue was that for the longest time, Araki was not pleased with the name changes that Viz/Capcom made for the Part 3 manga & video game, so when All-Star Battle & the rise of streaming came about, Namco went straight to Araki to make sure he was okay with any name changes to ensure they keep in tone to their original reference & what not, which then lead to Crunchyroll using most of those names for consistency.Dubbing JoJo isn't that tough. It's just that there was at least 20 years of no official English dub outside of the SDC OVA and a majority of the fan base is accustomed to hearing it in one language.
Erica Mendes has to put in some work and they have to pick the right VA's for some very specific characters.HxH has some of the best performances I've seen in anime later on. While I have no doubt that the English VAs could pull it off, they still have a lot to live up to.
I legit took a break from HxH after a certain ep. It's that emotionally taxing.I am really curious how future scenes will be handled in HxH as there are some god damned emotionally draining scenes. I won't say anymore but the voice actors are gonna have to bring their A game to do some later scenes Justice

But who becomes Wizard King?
Probably Ging and he'll be the laziest king. But who becomes Wizard King?

Eh, I don't think that's an issue. You don't have to make it Engrish to make it work.Josuke's not really going to have a catchphrase when DiU gets dubbed.
Hisoka's penis
Another issue is that they wanted to release the Part 5 video game, but Prince's lawyers got upset overI think part of the issue was that for the longest time, Araki was not pleased with the name changes that Viz/Capcom made for the Part 3 manga & video game, so when All-Star Battle & the rise of streaming came about, Namco went straight to Araki to make sure he was okay with any name changes to ensure they keep in tone to their original reference & what not, which then lead to Crunchyroll using most of those names for consistency.

And there's the general issue of there being no popular Jojo anime until David Pro somehow managed to pull it off. The OVAs had a mixed reaction in Japan, and the Phantom Blood movie had such a bad reaction that no full copy of it exists.
What's the first?Death Note is only the second most misogynistic work by the author!

Honestly Death Note didn't besides Ryuk(who is the best part) and the other shinigami You don't need much of a better and it still sucksMan, they just need to stop with these live action adaptations. Or like, do something that doesn't require a ludicrous budget or special effects.
...then again, all the big series pretty much do.
/a/ shitposters when the Black Clover anime starts airing.
That's actually great castingLive Action Mob Psycho 100. Ryan Gosling is Reigen. It'll be a hit.
The issue with series like Death Note is that they're also too anime to really pull off. They got around it this time by Americanizing everything, but you still get ridiculous nonsense like with Kira's name. Imagine how much worse it would've been if they tried to maintain, say, the hairstyles?
You need a mundane or grounded series to pull off a live action manga adaptation, whether it's from Japan or from the US. Or a really good sense of how to adapt things, which uh, doesn't seem to be a thing.
As long as the protagonist is a foreignerWasn't there a Monster adaptation (with Del Toro working on it) floating around HBO that got canned.
That may have worked.
