They hunt other hunters and bad guys.

They are more like mercenaries than actual hunters. Kinda like how Samus Aran is a bounty hunter who never hunts bounties.

Hunter X Hunter basically changes genres each arc (and multiple times in longer arcs). There is training and some one-on-one fights, but less than normal shonen.

Perhaps production issues. At the time I don't think Madhouse knew if it could adapt the whole series so the first 2 cours are roughly the Hunter exam.

They didn't have any confidence in this show lasting more than 26 episodes. Hence the first 26 episodes have two recaps, censoring and skips backstory.

The show gets a lot better after that. They realized it was going to last and stopped appealing to such a young age.

I think it's because of the time slot change, though with 150 episodes, I don't see why they should have it run for 150 fucking weeks.
