I thought the point of his Bankai was that all his Spirit Energy or whatever was compressed, thus why it's not flashy like most everyone else.

It's basically this, which is supposed to grant him amazing speed and power.

Unfortunately for Ichigo, there has not been a single fight, even the one in which he went bankai in the first place, in which his bankai has been faster than just his regular ass opponent.
