This isn't "What's the best film?", it's about animation/artistry.

And Garden of Words is a fucking incredible example of animation.

Where's Spirited Away? Princess Mononoke? Howl's Moving Castle? Akira? Paprika? So many great Japanese films absent.

Surprised they only picked one Ghibli film.

Utena movie should be on the list for it's blatant architecture porn.

uhm guys. the commentator said that they're just focusing on the visual aspect of animated films. so some of what you guys have said may be beautiful story-wise but that wasn't the focus of the video. lols

did you guys even watch the video

wishes it were bannable to say mean things about Marvel
LOL. Ok.

My general point STILL stands. I apologize for sharing my opinion...I am out.

Opinions are fine but you are throwing around incorrect facts and claiming that they are true, that's why everyone is jumping on you.

Mononoke and Akira missing are glaring omissions to the list, they should both be in there over other stuff.

Good list, but like many others are suggesting, I'd add Akira and Redline to the list. I think I'd also add Robot Carnival; there's some pretty amazing looking stuff in that, especially the "Nightmare" short film near the end. As for non-anime suggestions, very surprised that The Thief and the Cobbler isn't on the list. The animation in that is probably the best I've seen in any movie, period. It's too bad about what happened to it.

I'll add that my personal opinion is right and the personal opinion of the video is wrong.

I'll then not understand what the video was about and make a list of my personal favorites.

Maybe I will also say that the personal opinion of other GAF posters are wrong because my personal opinion is right.

As someone already pointed out, these threads never go well because they ALWAYS devolve into the above.

This is obviously a list of "movies I actually saw and though looked nice". Most choices are going to be pretty subjective but whatever your tastes, Akira has got to be on the list. The animation in that film remains mind blowing, and that's when you assume parts of it are CG, then you realize it's all done by hand and you fall on the floor and begin to twitch.

Yeah Sleeping Beauty should be on there. I remember going to my grandma's house one day and my baby cousin was watching it on Blu Ray. It looked so incredible I just had to borrow it.

Its an okay list. Some glaring omissions and some confusing additions and they seemed to try and keep it to 1 a creator/studio.

Would have put Thief and the Cobbler on there. Maybe Ghost in the Shell Innocence and Redline too. Akira deserves a spot as well.

Wow. Like that list isn't biased towards western animation or anything.

KnK: Garden of Sinners should be on that list somewhere.

That was just the first movie. The sequels showed noticeable improvement over this.

But is it about animation technical quality or animation aesthetics? Because those could be two different things.

Again, Kaguya Hime is beautifully animated from an aesthetics point of view, but it's not a technical feat.

Doc Holliday

SPOILER: Columbus finds America
Also what constitutes "best animated"?

A few movies listed here have tons of eye candy, crazy camera movements and effects but the characters are basically talking heads.

I'd take the animation in the Jungle Book or the Illusionist over KnK any day. That's what makes Akira so good, it had everything animation wise.

I see that blinking green phone light a lot in threads like these. Not sure why it's used as an example, seems extremely simple. Same with the other examples from that movie. Is it more the mood it sets that people love?

I'ts rendered nicely therefore automatically better in most people's eyes.

Mr Fox and Boxtrolls?

pffffff...

Someone needs to really introduce this list to Studio Ghibli, Secret of the Kells, and Song of the Sea.

The thing about CineFix lists is that they're usually more like Top 50s than Top 10s (I think they even admitted this recently). The way it works is they basically give 10 different categories a slot and then mention their favourites from each category (leading to one being picked in the end).

Pretty much every film people feel are missing out are in the video as pinnacles of their genre. The reasons for their choices are pretty decent to, but it seems a lot of people didn't watch it haha

that's strange, it looks like they pasted San gif over a jpg

It's common for some to confuse "wow this extremely well done illustration is some great animation" when it comes to Japanese animated films, granted a good amount of their films do have lots of movement comparable to Disney films, but there are a ton of stills with a panning camera and a simple animation. That kinda thing kinda takes me out of the film when they do that.
