You can easily see who didn't watched the Video in this Thread. Almost every movie mentioned in this Thread was mentioned in the Video.

People are upset that Akira is not in the List, we'll they talked about the movie just before they revealed the No.1. Same with all the Ghibli and Disney flicks. They didn't forgot about those, they just took the one they thought was the most impressive AND explained why.

They probably shouldn't have framed it as a top 10. They clearly lumped a lot of types together and then picked one or two of each style, which goes counter to a top 10 most beautiful individual animated movies. I understand that this is probably to create a bit of diversity in styles or to avoid having one studio or type of animation to dominate the list, but it feels like a cop-out. They also seemed a bit inconsistent in their reasoning concerning the quality of the movie itself.

To end on a more positive note, the list does show a decent range of bespoke art styles for the most part. The only exceptions to me are ironically enough the exception of the top 2 entries. Both seemed to be more expensive, and technologically advanced versions of stuff I've seen before. The rest you could unmistakeably recognise from any given shot due to their strong art direction, and that's always a plus in my book.

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole (2010)
Though most people missed it in the theaters, this film is a masterpiece of CG animation.
The most beautiful animation (ya, it was pretty good) cannot cover up a shallow plot about Nazi owls. Boy, was that movie awful.

And not enough love for Japanese animation on that list.

A distinct lack of "The Man Who Planted Trees," "Hedgehog in the Fog," "Tulips Shall Grow," "Composition in Blue," "Pinnochio," and tons of other things that I think could easily bump these selections.

Well, at least it might help expose more people to Achmed.

edit: It irritates to me to no end that Shinkai's stuff pops up under animation lists all of the time. Yeah, I get it. He makes pretty images, but the animation is so forgettable.

visually Rango >>>> any pixar or 3D disney film ever made.

you could say fantastic mr. fox looks like the average stop-motion movie but wes anderson's style really makes it pop. the way he frames things is included in that movie and it's awesome. he was the perfect guy to adapt roald dahl

Interesting list I must say. Though I don't know how anyone can put Lion King over Sleeping Beauty if we are just talking about animation in general.

List is absolute garbage.

No Sleeping Beauty is the most obviously glaring omission - I don't see how any list could ever not have it. Other disney golden age like Pinocchio, some of Miyazaki's stuff...And although it's not a very good movie, the night bike sequence in Akira is magnificent.

I really expected Sleeping Beauty to be somewhere near the top, and consider the finger prick and final battle scenes to be the prettiest things produced by western animators ever.

For everybody's reference.

My number one would be Akira. That owl movie looked pretty cool, though.

Awesome they got Prince Achmed, that still blows me away. The Thief and the Cobbler might have been GOAT if they ever finished it. As it is Pinocchio is probably the best.

As far as Anime goes Steamboy was absolutely fucking nuts, same with Redline. Memories is still impressive even to this day too.

Garden of words is lovely but uses rotoscoping and digitally enhancing photographs, plus doesn't have that much actual animation.

That's not how it works. A different character or just a small moving part of the environment would be a unique cel. :p

As far as my eyes can see, some of Akira is animated at 24fps and some of it isn't.

Then how does it work? If you have 24 different cells in a second (even if it is just a tiny difference) it is 24 frames per second right?

Jesus, what a terrible list. Lion King actually looks bad -- very dated, screams 90s with its gross airbrushed color.

No Song of the Sea or Book of Kells, no Spirited Away or Mononoke, no Arabian Nights, no Snow White or Fantasia.

There's some nice looking movies in that list, not that I totally agree with it. It's not garbage though, lol. It's their opinions. Will get me to watch these again and some of your guys' suggestions.

That's what great about these lists, they spark discussion and suggestions.

They pick 1 movie to represent a style, studio or country which feels a bit dumb. They even mislabeled Prince of Egypt as Disney. And if you read through the thread there are a lot that weren't mentioned. Iron Giant and Thief and the Cobbler etc

It's a top ten list. Saying "and now we're going to mention some beautiful foreign movies like triplets of Belleville just to let you know I didn't forget them but rather intentionally snubbed them in favor of this crappy looking Flash animated movie," doesn't make it any better.

A cel is different from a frame. A single frame may contain several cels composited together.

I only meant to say you can't calculate the framerate by the amount of cels used in a movie.

Here's a real cel :p

So many quality animated films snubbed. Akira and Mononoke has already been mentioned by many, but I think Fire and Ice should've been on this list.

Yeah, mislabeling a movie is a pretty heavy mistake to make if you have channel being only about movies. But picking one movie per style/studio is okay for me, the only issue with that it is presented like a Ranking Wich is pretty misleading.
Also, I never said all movies, I said most movies that where "snubbed" were mentioned in the clip. And this is isn't wrong.

Top 10 Lists are always subjective, if the Guy making the Movie was heavily impressed by a Movie because it was made in Flash, then so be it. If we were to put in every movie someone consideres most beautiful we would end up having a Top50+ List, wich I would have loved to see, but I understand that they didn't wanted to make the Video too long. In the response to the quote above yours I talked about my issues with that Video, so I hope I made my point clear

Garden of words is lovely but uses rotoscoping and digitally enhancing photographs.

Is that supposed to be a minus? The final result is great. All that matters.

In the other hand if we are going to judge animation by itself, it's weird to put CG films and traditional animation in the same basket. I like both, but they are way too different, in both the process and the final result.

You know, they really should've just done a "Top 10 Most Beautiful Animated Movies of All Time That Aren't Disney, Pixar or Ghibli" instead of this version. Also, putting Lion King above Sleeping Beauty? I love LK but no.

Not having a single reference to Thief and the Cobbler is the most glaring thing about this video. Didn't even get an honorable mention.
