ya I used to go there too (PS3Insider) but it got invaded by a large amount of XBOTS! The forum sucks now

GAF is my main forum now. Really, it can't be beat.
GameFAQs is good too, but only on the game specific boards. There is no way in hell I am venturing into some of the console specific boards. :lol
Other than that, I don't really visit any other forums.

I use to like the Gone Gold boards, but that site went under when I wasn't looking, and I haven't really figured out where all the posters went (Octopus Overlords? Looks like some of them are there).

I did most of my game discussion (heck, online discussion in general) on Usenet up until around 1997 or so. A few months ago I tried looking into some newsgroups I used to read long ago and holy shit! Usenet is just a shambles now. Browsing Google's group archives for stuff you posted about ten years ago can be an amusing (and sometimes embarrassing) experience. That's one thing that is missing from most web-based forums: any kind of useful archive.

I agree with this, only I'll visit GameFaqs only for their...faqs.

The game specific boards can sometimes be quite useful. It's their general video game boards that are a disaster.

The Digital Press forums are pretty neat, but they're more for the collector/historian.

And for all of these nominations, can someone tell me which of these has the lowest amount of fanboy bullshit? I've heard good things about SA, but even though it very well might be worth it, I'm not paying for a messageboard.

Those boards are so utterly spammed by whining, idiotic, downright stupid crybabies that it's nigh-impossible to find any sort of discussion anywhere. Some of the class boards (Shaman, Druid) are decent, but overall the signal-to-noise ratio is totally insane.

these days I only really frequent GAF and the music section of Gamingforce. I used to go to Digital Press, but they have this rule there that if you post any topic that has been posted before, even 3 years ago, your topic gets closed, and in those years, theyve done every topic imaginable. And the regulars play this perverse game of "who can find the 3 year old topic so that this one can be closed first." The last time the mod even said that the old topic was "better than mine." I do NOT need that kind of agita.
