Title says it all, self opinion on the best male vocalists of the last 15 years.

Mine are; in a very tough picked order:

1: Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Solo)
2: Layne Staley (Alice in Chains, Mad Season)
3: Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam)
4: James Maynard Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle)
5: Jeff Buckley (Solo)

I second Chris Cornell.

But replace Eddie Vedder with Mike Patton, and replace James Maynard Keenan with Mike Patton, and you've got yourself a list.

Jeff Buckley should be number one.

Well i guess thats what I meant by "self opinion" in regards to everyone's top 5, so post your top 5 and lets get cracking.

I agree with Cornell.

Maynard has a nice voice, but I'm not sure I'd place him in a top 5.

However, Thom Yorke needs to be on top of that list.

No arguement from me with Chris Cornell. Greatest singer of all time as far as I'm concerned. And he's deliciously hot.

just wondering how many of those vocalists sound good live?

I can tell you for a fact that Lenny Kravitz sounds fvcking awesome live. He's the best stage show I've seen in a long time. He has so much energy and stage presence. He preceded the RHCP. He made the Chili Peppers look like schmoes.

I agree, but if I had it my way Mike Patton would hold all five slots in the top five. He is such a versatile singer he could easily pass as five different people. Honestly people don't give him the credit he deserves, hell most people don't even know who he is.

Mike Patton
Thom Yorke
Maynard James Keenan
Morrissey
Mikael Åkerfeldt
Jonsi from Sigur Ros

All great choices. I can't think of anymore right now but there definately are a lot more worthy mentions.

<---

(Thom Yorke)

And...Jeff Buckley, and...Sufjan Stevens. That's all I can think of...most of the bands/artists I've liked in the past decade haven't had very good vocal abilities.

Mike Patton <------HANDS F'ing DOWN
John Bush(Anthrax, Amroed Saint)
Corey Glover(Living Colour)
Chris Cornell(Soundgarden, Audioslave)
Burton C. Bell (Fear Factory)

1. Daniel Gildenlow - (Pain of Salvation....one of the most unbeleivably strong and VARIED voices in history. This man can litterally do anything with his voice, it's just unreal...oh yea...and he's absolutely flawless live. THe song "Reconciliation" is probably the most concise way to show off his voice and how he can do so many things so perfectly (although definitely not the best)). He also writes almost all the band's music. I just can't say enough about how powerful, moving, and absolutely awe inspiring this guy's voice is. Just listen to "Reconciliation", you'll understand. Oh yea...he's got an incredible sense of melody on the guitar and he plays every instrument known to man.
.......
.......
.......
........
2.Dan Swano - (Best death metal voice in the biz, imo. Also a very good "normal" singer)
3.Mikael Åkerfeldt - (Opeth. Great mixture of a very good singing voice with an even better death metal voice) (glad somebody mentioned him so i didn't have to track down that weird A)
4.Chris Cornell (I think his works have already been mentioned enough. Not my choice of music but he's definitely got a great voice)
5.Bruce Dickenson (Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickenson - does anything really need to be said about him? I mean...he's Bruce Dickenson)

EDIT - Oh god I forgot Mike Patton, put him in at #2 and shift everything else down 1.

Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Tomahawk, Fantomas vocalist.

He's definitely a vocalist. His voice is an instrument as much as it used for singing.

Oh, about Anthony Kiedis...on record he sounds pretty nice, but live he can be absolutely horrible and out of key. Word on the street is that he uses pitch adjusters on his voice in the studio...

I saw Tomahawk open for Tool during the Lateralus tour and they were nearly booed off stage. Worst act I have ever seen. The frontman mentioned something about how he enjoys being booed. I hope it wasn't the same band you're talking about.

Could be. I've never seen him live outside of Faith No More, but I know he gets off on pissing people off or making extremely unusual music.

I love Mr. Bungle, but I can see where people would find it difficult to "get into".
