I don't get it. You're going to TIFF and then making a point to see standard multiplex fare? Go see some of the most interesting offerings that won't end up playing everywhere else: 24 City, Waltz with Bashir, Of Time and the City, Three Monkeys, Soderbergh's Che films, the new Claire Denis and Dardenne brothers pictures...

I'd kill to be able to see this stuff!

tried to get three monkeys. religulous.. sold out
will wait for saturday and try rush and advance

Three Monkeys (Uc Maymun), that's the new Nuri Bilge Ceylan movie right. I am really curious how that turned out. I liked the trailer, it seemed more accesseble then his previous movies Uzak and Iklimler (both classics imo, but sooo fucking sloooow).

Ah, lame! I just found out about this now and thought it was fate... but no one I know has a VISA card to order tickets online. If I show up Sunday, think Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist would be sold out?

Damn VISA and their lame sponsorships!

No love for JCVD? Great film that I already want to see again. I have a new-found respect for the man, he clearly put his heart into this one.

Saw JCVD @ midnight madness on thursday and The Wrestler gala screening today...both incredible movies.

No celebs at JCVD except the director, but at The Wrestler there was Mickey Rourke, Evan Rachel Wood, Marilyn Manson, Darren Aronofsky, Rachel Weisz, Mark Ruffalo and I saw the Weinsteins drive by so maybe they're gonna buy it.

Hoping to see another 1 or 2 movies before tiff is over, I was gonna see Appaloosa and Burn After Reading but I think I'll just wait a couple weeks and see them at a regular theater. Thinking about seeing Synecdoche New York or The Hurt Locker.

Saw:

The Sky Crawlers (3/10. Absolute shit except for the plane fight scenes and one good monologue)
Goodbye Solo (7/10)
Tale 52 (6/10. Great style and idea, but should have ended at least 10 times)
Before Tomorrow (6/10. Good, but soooo slow)
Slumdog Millionaire (9/10. Real winner here. Can't say enough good things about the film. Look at it come Oscar nominee time. Must see)

Seeing Next Sat:
The Wrestler
RocknRolla
What Doesn't Kill You
Miracle at St. Anna

Detroit Metal City - Over the top but fun. 7.5/10

Faubourg 36 - Too long. Nice music, though. 6.5/10

Waltz with Bashir - Fuuuuck. 9/10

Please go see Lovely, Still. My best friend growing up wrote and directed it. It has 2 Oscar winners in it and the story, from the screenplay I read, is pretty touching and creative.

Go see it and tell me about it.

The screenings for it are:

Friday September 05 09:00PM ISABEL BADER THEATRE
Saturday September 06 01:00PM AMC 2
Saturday September 13 09:00AM VARSITY 8
Saturday September 13 05:45PM AMC 2

Today was pretty awesome. Got to see Hirokazu Kore-eda and Wong Kar-wai talk about their respective films. Managed to get Kore-eda to sign my ticket but Kar-wai left the theatre so damn fast. :lol

Anybody here go see The Lucky Ones? :( I want to see it so badly. Heard McAdams was worth keeping an eye on come Oscar season. Didn't need to be told really. The trailer speaks for itself. :D

The Lucky Ones Trailer

Did I convince anyone to go see it?

Saw:

The Sky Crawlers (3/10. Absolute shit except for the plane fight scenes and one good monologue)

I spent the whole week thinking it couldn't be that bad but damn you were right. This film was downright torturous. Outside of the CG and the dogfights there are no redeeming qualities.

As for the rest of the films I saw:

Loved:
Daytime Drinking (opening scene and the horse shit subtitles made it painfully obvious that this was shot for $10,000 but I'll be damned if this wasn't one of the funniest films I've seen in a while. Probably my fave out of all the films.)
A Year Ago in Winter (Karoline Herfurth was a nice surprise. Great performances overall.)
Ashes of Time Redux (Leslie Cheung was awesome)
Still Walking (knocks off After Life as my favourite from Kore-eda)
Waltz with Bashir (left me in a daze for 5 minutes :lol)

Decent:
Faubourg 36 (meh)
Detroit Metal City (liking the anime more)

Not sure:
Tokyo Sonata (really, really enjoyed the first half but then it trailed off into wtf territory. The situations they got themselves in......ehhhhhhhh)

Didn't see due to laziness:
All Around Us (I'll buy the dvd or something)
