Toukiden 2 |OT| Action Hunting Gameplay Feat. Open World

How do you turn supply routes safer? Just kill stuff on the area until it drops? Or is it story based?

Oni kills within the area will go towards stabilizing the area and unlocking things in the shop, and Joint Operations help with this too.

Been kind of busy so I haven't gotten too far in but the more I play, yeah, the story really is better with the open world. There's more variety to the missions and story situations that can happen and with the ability to walk to areas, it feels more like a cohesive place.

Too many times in Toukiden Kiwami it would be simply: "Hey, do Six missions with little to no story!"

At least the filler in in Toukiden 2 it has variety to it.

Oh, hey. I'm in post game and just found a new mechanic.

Did you know that max level Mitama give you special weapon upgrades?

Post game is pretty bad.

Want to hunt a specific monster? too bad. The missions only cover half of them. You have to go into the open world to find the thing.

It didn't spawn? too bad. Go back to town and try again.

It spawned inbetween a bunch of normal enemies? too bad. Get used to rekilling them every few minutes throughout the entire fight. And it's hard mode, so even normal enemies have stupid amounts of health.

It spawned in a miasma area? too bad. Your fight now has a hard time limit.

All that shit checked out and you got a kill? great. Now do it 5 more times and hope you get the items you wanted.

This is the point the game "forces" you to go get those lobby missions done. It's not new, Kiwami also had oni specific to them, or at least missions where you could find them alone. I only go into the open world to complete joint ops (for better shop inventory) or gather stuff.

Also, joint ops aside spawn points are fixed. For example, there's always a Chthonian Fiend in western Age of Yore.

But yeah, fighting trash alongside a big oni is awful.

So, have there been any ambitions to work around the games laughable 1920x1080 resolution lock on PC? Did some digging and the first one still hasn't been unlocked so I don't hold high hopes for this one either but would love to be wrong.
It's just so stupid...

Can someone tell me how well the coop feature works? Like, how seamless is it, and can you experience most of the content with a friend?

Co-op is not part of the story. It has it's own seperate progression. You unlock co-op after playing the single-player story for like an hour at most (maybe less).

Unlike SP, you don't go into the open world in co-op, you just accept missions that teleport you to the places (sometimes this can put you into an arena with the boss or give you the entire zone to find the boss). You complete Red missions to unlock more phases of missions.

Your progress in MP might be a little hampered by SP progress in the sense that while you can unlock all the Phases of missions in MP without ever progressing past chapter 1 in the SP, you won't have access to some of the upgraded base stuff (like the ability to upgrade your weapon past 3) that you get from playing SP.

Well, that's a tad disappointing. Thanks a lot for the info, tho!

So what I've noticed about the Cthonian specifically is that he spawns, only if you haven't triggered any other boss oni near his spawn spot. If you run into an Ogre varient near the north-west clearing where the Cthonian spawns, he won't until you kill it or run far enough away to "despawn" the thing. I've also noticed some other areas where a boss oni would normally be, it won't spawn if a mission spawns another boss oni too near the area. Moment you pop the one, the other comes into being. I think it's a limit imposed from the Vita days?

Anyway, finally got my Cthonian cannon upgraded to tier 6. Also maxed several gun related Mitamas for their shards, but haven't figured out which guns the shards are for.

Thanks for this info. Ima farm the bastard while I'm "at work".

checked some video reviews on youtube (none of the big outlets have any, seems its mostly youtubers) and all the footage they show makes the game look like a musou, a bunch of small enemies, I didnt see any monster hunter type giant monster, whats up with that?

You either watched the wrong parts of those videos (assuming you kept skipping instead of watching the whole thing) or these people managed to miss the main part of the game.

Big onis can spawn on the open world, some with fixed spawn locations and maybe some random ones as well? You can also grab a quest with the mission clerk which will teleport you straight to the big oni or to an area where you need to search for it.

Here's a video of the JP version against a known oni from vanilla/Kiwami https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utxVevio4ZI

I've been farming some late bosses to try and get some armor that'll let me survive two hits, but I guess I'll be wearing the reforged preorder Tenko costume forever.

The armor it's being compared to is a rank 6 I just crafted.

I can't lie, it's so tempting to wear the Tenko armor, but I've been not as I don't want to make the game easy. :(

I never attempted anything like that but I still did some test with Cheat Engine and hex editor. Couldn't find anything with the hex editor.
I thought I had something with the Cheat engine, found a pointer and the offset for x/y resolution when you change resolution from the graphics menu, but just like the resolution in the registry it seems like what you change is the value referencing the current resolution ( 0 = 640x360, 1 = 800x450, etc.. ).
I'll keep trying but I honestly doubt I'll get anywhere ( not because it's impossible, but because I'm really bad at it ).

Things ramp up quite a bit in hard mode. Even with that Tenko armor, sometimes ATK's Immortal pops up and I don't even know what happened.

I mean, kills still take 5~10min tops, but if I get hit my health bar vanishes.

is there a consensus on game lenght yet?

Cleared the main story in about 30ish hours, but there is still a lot of stuff to do after like getting all 204 mitama and clearing the phases in the Multiplayer lobby. (this can be done solo too)

Why nobody talking/playing the Ruins Exploration mission?!
Very welcomed addition and for those who doesn't know it is like a horde mode were you go down a tower floors each with a boss on it the deeper you go the harder it get and of course the better the rewards are

I've been meaning to do those, but want to progress further on the story. Is it like the infinite/exploration missions from Kiwami?

Contrary to what I said in my previous post I actually might be going in the right direction with the hex editor :
Left is where I'm at ( and should be 2560*1440 ) while right is 1080p ( full screen on my 1440p monitor ), no AA in the 2 shots.

Now as you can see it doesn't even render the character model, only the hair, accessories etc.., and well the game crash if I try to load my game. I hope I'll be able to fixe that, but still no promise I'm still no Durante.

I feel they're using those ruins missions to try and clear some of the trauma caused with Kiwami. Every run has an Aurogrinder showing up.

First time I even got that same shock of seeing one after too many hours looking for them, then I remembered that unlike Kiwami you don't need to craft every single weapon of one type for a trophy.

Unrelated: the last phase missions are kinda hairy so I thought I'd give it a shot online. I've seen a total of one lobby open since launch on PC :(

Okay, I wasn't expecting this game to be open world. Talk about a "holy shit!" moment when I found out.

How're y'all enjoying this game? It seems to resolve my main complaint with the first game (larger than needed HP pools on every boss) and the open world gameplay is deceptively fun. I'm really enjoying it.

Goddammit I want this game so bad, but there are just so many games right now! I might just have to take the plunge. How is the online matchmaking in the US? Is it easy like monster hunter? Any tips for a MH vet/Toukiden noob?

Is anyone down to play this online on PC? The rooms are separated by the Steam download servers, which is the same problem God Eater had.

Just beat the final boss of the story and I have to say that music is just superb.
It's time to do cleanup on crests and ark stones and gather mitama in normal then hit up hard mode.
Guess I'll be doing the phase climb online somewhere during all of that too.

If anyone wants to climb (I'm only on phase 3) on PSN let me know.

I'm loving it, but for the sake of typing something, I'd say my major gripes are:

  • Lack of translations for field chatter
  • Starting around Chapter 3 or 4, at least half the time you're locked out of doing missions or sometimes even going into the open world. That got annoying because you really need a break from the "run from Point A through Point ZZZ in town to talk to people" story chains.
  • The mitama list could use some more sorting options, especially ones with weapon specific perks or ones that effect having a certain style in another slot.
  • Your "got items" HUD display still only showing two things at time so you have to sit there for three minutes after each mission while it depopulates. It also overlaps the text for raising a relationship so you almost never know who you just made happier.
  • That whole machina doll searcher is way worse than the same mechanic with the tenko in the last game. I'm 30+ hours in and he's still worthless and "somewhat low" for the frickin' very first area even though I've upgraded him four times and all those zones are Safe.

It took so much grinding to bring it to 10 search/10 combat (the point where it's past "somewhat low" chances to find stuff and without being destroyed) that I'm not sure it's even useful anymore. Especially when it takes at least 40min ingame minutes to fetch anything from Yore.

I miss the sacred tree.

I miss the sacred tree.

Same here! I actually ran around town for 10 minutes the first night looking for this game's version of that. :(

The cherry blossom in the outsider camp or that catch-all tombstone would be obvious markers for that kind of mechanic.

Is there anything to do in the end game after finishing chapter 7? Or are you just left to do the open world busy work and dungeon runs where you fight that same old Oni?

Put a ton of time into this game yesterday after work, I really really like it.

SnS is definitely my go-to weapon this time. There's such a varied moveset, I'm having a lot of fun figuring out when to parry, go into different stances, etc.

A few questions about SnS though:

-When you complete your crouch stance combo and your shield blade starts glowing. Do all shield slash moves do more damage, or just the charge move with Circle/B?

-What's the bread and butter move for best damage, given the Oni is incapacitated or immoble? I've been doing the shield blade mode X+A stabby attacks, but It never feels like I'm breaking limbs with it. The charge move seems to take too long, and sword only mode doesn't seem to have any big damage attacks other than the charge Y.

-Is there another way to charge your shield blade? I noticed sometimes after I did frequent air attacks, it seems to have auto-charged itself, but I can't replicate that result.

fuck it, broke down and bought it before the launch discount was over. Im #yoloing hard lately damn it >_>

but Zelda is winding down so this will be a good follow up. Any tips I should know to start? Ive never played the first one.

- Don't explore the open world until the game gives you companions. Soloing will get you dead when you're starting out.
- First order of the day: test every weapon. You start with one of each type. Try em all! Find ones you like. There are no wrong choices.
- Once you got a team and a weapon of choice, don't be afraid to explore the open world. It's bloody huge, but gated. So it opens up as you do the main quests. About halfway through the game they even drop that and just let you go wherever.

Today I discovered that multiplayer has enemies you can't fight on the open world! I say multiplayer, but I mean the online mode you can play solo or with people. There's a giant bat thing! and a baboon demon!

are you supposed to focus on 1 weapon type throughout?

You don't have to, but it gets expensive/time intensive to build multiple weapon types of multiple elements. I generally stick to ~3 weapons for some variety, but there's always one I "main" for most encounters.

It's also great to do the training missions since you're a first timer. It shows you most of the weapons movesets and helps you decide which ones you like the feel of. There's also training for each of the Mitama types as well as the Devil Hand. He's at the counter near the gate of the town, next to the guy that gives you missions. (not story stuff).

cool, thats usually what I end up doing anyway. I play soul games for example (I know this isnt like that, its just n example) with basically just one type of weapon

I'll be honest, the game's encyclopedia became a staple of my initial time with the game. The movelist and mechanic explanations were lifesavers.

And even then I didn't realise you could manually pick boosts. I'm an idiot :P

is there some big ass, claymore-style action? Cause thats my jam.

Thats even my jam in Zelda which 95% of people seem to hate lol

There's "sword" which is basically a katana, but there are also other shapes and sizes of swords. It doesn't really have the slow calculated movements as much though. If you like charging weapons, Club can be a lot of fun, and it's more focused on slow powerful hits. Spear too, is kinda a weighty/charge up type weapon. Really though, it's worth playing through each of the weapon tutorials and seeing where you fit in. Lots of weapons have secondary attack types that are different than what you'd expect.

- When you're in that stance (Spring Moon) every move you do powers up your finisher, the 5th and last hit that also takes you out of the stance. Your weapon glows to reflect that power level. If you don't repeat the same move twice in a row, you get the strongest finisher.

- Stabby spam. When in doubt, it's always the move that leaves you open :P

- Every attack does it, even those in offensive stance I think. Maybe you're thinking of Spring Moon's finisher, landing it is the largest bump you'll see when charging the gauge.
