Not available in your area? I live in JAPAN and I didn't have a problem.

It's been a while since I've read HBP and I'm having trouble recalling the the scene in the wheat field as well.

But the scenes with Riddle and the general tone of the trailer is awesome! Being a huge Potter fan, I am severely hyped for this.

And Ginny sure grew up, eh? :D

Tom Riddle first appeared in #3, right?

I started listening to it on audiobook, but I fell asleep during part of it and never picked up the threads again. I should, I'd like to eventually finish the series.

I can't believe people like the old Dumbledore over the new one...the old one was so...old! He barely could get out his lines and was about to keel over at any point. Dumbledore wasn't such a feeble old man in the books. And the first two movies sucked compared to the rest.

That said, this trailer = HAWT

I liked the old Dumbledore just because he seemed so reserved and you can just tell there was some sort of brilliance behind all of his actions. You can also tell that he really cares for Harry.

And I don't dislike Dumbledore's new actor at all. I just had to take some time to get used to him, that's all. He's probably better at doing most of the running around and action scenes than the old one would've been anyway.

He had that ingenious "old man touch" much like the books....

This Dumbledore is more serious

Richard Harris > Michael Gambon. Harris was also a legendary drunk, adding to his greatness.

Dumbledore WAS feeble and old in the books, at least on most occassions. He wasn't running down stairs and shaking Harry Potter, asking if he put his name in the goblet. That scene still makes me cringe. If anything Dumbledore is like Gandalf: both seem old and feeble through a good deal of the story yet come alive when needed, whether it's battling Voldermort in OOTP or kicking ass during the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. With this in mind Harris was the perfect Gandalf. He was probably too old to do any of the heroics seen in OOTP/HBP but from a film perspective it could have been handled with doubles and close up facial shots.

The "new" Dumbledore isn't horrible, but as I said he often leaves me shaking my head. That being said I can't wait for this movie. The trailer looked great, and it'll be Dumbledore-heavy

Gambon is an incredible actor, and does an excellent performance of the role of Dumbledore. Book purists may favor Harris for his more conservative/"true to the book" portrayal, but I prefer Gambon myself for the reasons I stated before.

The scene with fenrir chasing harry in the wheat field and Ginny getting disarmed by expelliarmus isnt in the book, it's a new scene added to the movie.

On the new scene:

Mugglenet set report said:
For the first time ever, an entirely new action sequence is being added to a Potter film. When fans first heard about it, they were unsure of what it would do to the film. The news broke online after the set visit, so when I saw pictures of it in the press roomI had to inquire further.

I did just that when we sat down with Producer David Barron, and he had some confident answers. It was essentially to try and keep the threat of the outside world alive because, in the books Jo sort of threads it through in sort of smallish ways on a fairly constant basis - so even though nothing is really happening out there, Voldemort, he takes a lot of time to get ready for his final battle, but she is able to keep it feeling dramatic through threading little bits such as children in tears because they just got news that a relative has died or been captured or things like that just keep an ever present [fear]. And with the film it's very difficult to, while staying with the main storyline, to keep all that sort of presence. So this comes pretty much in the middle of the film and it's a very graphic demonstration of the fact that great danger exists out there and it's not safe for anybody, least of all Harry.

I then proceeded to ask how he thinks the fan will take the new scene given how critical they usually are. We hope they take it well because it serves a proper story point, and it's fun, it's exciting, and it's of any consolation, Jo approved of it so nothing would go in the script she wouldn't approve of.

Sure, but I don't think that's true in this role. Maybe if they got him ten years earlier in his life...

Dumbledore kicked ass in the books, but he was a little softer than Gambon, I'd agree. The part you mention isn't really his fault either, that's a director's fault.

New Dumbledore > Old Dumbledore.

Richard Harris from Unforgiven would have been perfect.

It took me a bit to warm up to Gambon, but I think he has gotten much better at it since Azkaban. He seems pretty perfect to me in Half-Blood Prince.

Book/film #2, actually.

TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE
IAM LORD VOLDEMORT

Geez, I need to stop listening to these when I go to bed. I often fall asleep and wake up and it's skipped ahead a couple of chapters :|

Great moody trailer.

Gambon is a great actor. Anyone who doubts should watch The Singing Detective (BBC version).

From watching him at the end of OotP to seeing him in this trailer, I can say that, in my opinion, he's become a very good fit. It took me a while to get used to him, but I got excited watching him talk to Harry about the memories and watching a younger Dumbledore talk to Riddle. I feel that he is Dumbledore now for me, instead of just someone taking old Dumbledore's place.

wow. this actually looks really good.
and here i thought my HP love had died.

Yes, since this will be his.....well

Is this being filmed in Imax like the last one?

Either way DAY FUCKIN ONE!

I loved OOTP after a disappointing GOF.

I'm eagerly looking forward to this as I do every movie. My mom is the real fan though having read all the books and stood in line for some of them for hours. I'll have to show her the trailer.. or is it teaser? I guess more of a teaser. The real trailer will have more footage and less quick flashes of scenes.

Decent trailer, except for this Dumbledore; who continues to scream 'INAPPROPRIATE ACTOR' every time he opens he grimaces or opens his mouth. Basically, any time he's on screen.

Then again, the last movie had a good trailer too, and it turned out to be a completely miserable adaption, IMHO.

Still, this book was shorter, so here's hoping it makes a smoother, less compromised transition.

Out of all the Harry Potter movie adaptations, I only liked The Prisoner of Azkaban. I feel that the other adaptations are mediocre.

I won't lie, though. That trailer was neat.

Whereas I hope they cut about half of HBP's content, so we're about even!

Trailer's emphasis being placed so heavily on Riddle gives me hope that they plan on ignoring most of Rowling's inane minutia in favour of the very cinematic and extremely engaging larger plot threads.

They won't. We're still going to get the romance. Which I don't mind as much as others, but hopefully it'll be kept to Romilda Vane (we've seen Ron with a box of chocolates) and some funny jealousy moments between Ron and Hermoine around Lavender (who was casted).

Unfortunately, it seems that they're cutting some of the flashbacks, which is sad, cause they're all awesome. Hopefully it's just Hepizah Smith's.

Half-Blood Prince was great because of the lack of action. Eh, I dunno how it's going to translate. I think cutting flashbacks because it "slows the pacing of the film" is the wrong move.

Wow, that kid playing young Voldemort seems pretty damn good, he's got the look and really sounds like Ralph Fiennes in the role.

Aaaand according to imdb.com, the kid is actually Ralph Fiennes' nephew. That might explain it.

The trailer looks great. I like how creepy they decided to make young Riddle look. Hopefully the final product won't disappoint.

wtf with all this dumbledore hate? i think the grand-pa dumbledore only existed in harry potter 1 and 2, after that the more serious dumbledore appeared. and I think gambon (hope thats the name of the new actor) does a decent job incapturing that.

I'm fine with the romance, to be honest - I think that Harry's story isn't bad as long as it isn't the entire focus of the film. The back stories are the real drive of the story, and as long as they emphasize their role more heavily than the book (Cuts have to be made to both, I agree, but I think they'll fall more to the side of the potions/romance stuff) I think that all stories (Slughorn, Malfoy, etc.) can shine.

And I think Half-Blood Prince was awful not because of its lack of action, but that said inaction was so utterly pointless. There was no other book where Rowling's slavish insistence on focusing solely on Harry's narrative was more frustrating, as she was willing to ignore it for the first two chapters and then when it really mattered chose not to show us any of what was actually interesting and not just Harry getting cockblocked. My hope is the film can at least fix that problem, and better represent the potential depth to be found in this chapter of the saga.

In my opinion there's really no way the film can be any worse than the book. Not that the book was bad by itself, it was just easily the worst of the seven.

Gambon is a good actor, but he is not a good Dumbledore.

Harris was perfectly cast, and that was why he was the first choice. If only Mc Kellen had agreed to be cast as Dumbledore - but I guess he didn't want to be typecasted after being Gandalf...

And Harris could have never pulled off younger Dumbledore, and heck could have never pulled off any of the physical stuff, so anyone still arguing that he would do better than Gambon is fighting a losing battle. Criticize Gambon all you want, that's reasonable due to differing opinions, but time was not on Harris' side even before his death.

In the previous movies, except maybe the last, I thought he didn't fit in. Dumbledore became much more grumpy as the story progressed, so I think Gambon is the right person now.

Agreed with the "he's a good actor" part, disagree with everything else.

Having just read the book, I think there is a lot more potential action sequences than you guys might be giving the story credit for. Here's a breakdown of the scenes I expect to see in the movie. Almost half could be considered "action".

PLOT: Dumbledore Meets the Dursleys
ACTION: Team Follows Malfoy to Borgin & Burkes
ACTION: Harry Hides in Malfoy's Cabin/Is Attacked

ACTION: Ron Wins Quidditch "Using" Felix Felicis
PLOT: More Snogging and Jealously
ACTION: Katie Bell is Cursed
ACTION: Ron is Poisoned
PLOT: Pensieve Stuff
ACTION: Harry Casts Sectumsempra on Malfoy
ACTION: The Cave
PLOT: Malfoy Threaten's Dumbledore

You just gave me a quick reminder of why I loved this book and how freakin' AWESOME the movie will be if they do the last half of the book correctly. I had forgotten about some of that like
the cave
and
Sectumsempra
. So bad ass. :D

See, I think the book is a boring piece of shit in execution, but reading it a second time its cinematic potential is extremely clear. A lot of what you mention here is kind of boring to read, to be frank, but from a filmmaking perspective there are plenty of opportunities for Yates to provide the story with some real urgency. This was the book where Harry's isolation from the outside world was way too frustrating, and that his outside looking-in view of the turmoil just didn't make sense.

And really, they need to open the film with not the
Prime Ministerial chat, but with the actual bridge collapse. They need to play into that total chaos that we never get to see or experience in the books, and that way we can better understand the various people getting pulled out of school and all of that.
