Seeing that 90 on Metacritic as someone whose been playing these games for almost 20 years just hits different.

It was about damn time for Trails to become popular in the west, it's been ignored for way too long even by avid JRPG players.

I dont wanna gatekeep here but is that something truly to be desired ?, in every instance where something got popular and mainstream -> the consequence was that the communities surrounding said thing have gone to shit and the respective companys shifted to a mainstream model to "please" everyone, i want falcom to make "falcom" games and not something distilled to please "the west".

Trails will never be mainstream in a way Falcom will change it and contract foreign people to adapt it to overseas "modern audiences" and such.

But it could definitely benefit from some more popularity, and specially that will be great for the players, so many don't know what they have been missing...

Last data revealed of sales was August 2024 that 8.5 million games sold were announced, with 11 games in the west and 12 in Japan. That's some 725k games per entry. I think if it could jump to averaging 1.5 million, doubling sales, it would be great for Falcom yet being niche enough not to appease anyone.

1.5-2M would be a Xenoblade tier level of sales. Not sure if they can reach that unless they increase the production values to that level. ~1M per entry would be nice though.

As long as they keep the slow burn world building + heavy emphasis on characters I'm fine with everything.

I was interested in buying the remake, but then the regional pricing fucked me. I'm probably gonna wait for a deep discount.

Huge bummer for me as well. They didn't apply regional pricing for where I live as well. They were doing it before therefore I was sure they were going to do it again.

I cannot buy with these prices. Whelp, gonna wait.

Really liking how it looks compared to their other games, I think they finally nailed their new style (within their means, still a pretty low-end low-fi look in general, with weaknesses in terms of IQ and AA and stuff, this one has TAA + SMAA options but it's still very aliased with them unless you crank up rendering ratio which can affect performance a lot on weaker hardware like mine is), otherwise I much preferred the original PS1-like aesthetics of low poly environments, pixel art textures and Camelot-esque renders-for-sprites. I just started it to check it out, probably play it through this winter.

Got this downloaded and ready to go when I finish work today, looking forward to reliving the story, its been over a decade since I played the original on PSP.

Looking forward to going through the storyline again. I am up to Cold Steel III in my first ever run through the chronology of the games, so it's been a while since I played through Estelle and Joshua's story.

seems all the DLC is broken on PS5 (I got the deluxe edition) its just costumes and hair and shit but I mean... If I didn't want to use that stuff I wouldn't have bought it :D

yeah I saw that on social media, at this point the deluxe edition seems broken or flat out missing on multiple platforms

GungHo really fucked up this launch

That's only the Trails sub series of The Legend of Heroes series :messenger_bicep:

I guess so, but it's really become a Shin Megami Tensei / Persona situation at this point, where the spinoff has far exceeded the original product in popularity and longevity. They didn't even bother with The Legend of Heroes branding for this remake.

For fans of the series do you plan to use the English voice acting or Japanese voice acting?
Japanese all the way.

English is ok but American dubbing school in general is not very experienced and of course the dub is full of weird pauses, strange choices (like Liberl's pronunciation) and broken delivery timings. That being said, it's at least passable.

playing in Japanese, its so much more natural sounding, the English voice actors just sound cheap.

Thank you. That's what I was leaning towards, but wanted to check with series veterans. Is this how it is across the whole series, or are some of the games better with the English voice acting?

Anyone else playing this on Switch 2. It seems like they dropped the idea of quality/performance modes and have just opted for

2160p/60fps (unlocked) Docked
And
1080p/60fps (locked/very stable) Undocked.

It looks and runs amazingly in handheld but seems to have an unstable 60fps on the TV. Nothing "bad" but curious they decided to ditch 30fps altogether.

Japanese.

I'm teaching myself Japanese and know the game's story well enough that I should be able to follow along, even if it takes awhile to get through cutscenes becuase of having to stop and look up vocab I don't know.

I plan on doing the same thing with Ys X Proud Nordics too. I have a Japanese copy ready to play when I get motivated to do it.

Is the thread title serious? Do all the games really total 1000 hrs?

Right now I would say it's more than 1000 hours. Some games can be finished in 60 to 70 hours but others as SC, Cold Steel 3 and 4, Reverie or Daybreak 1 easily exceed the 100 hours. Reverie and CS4 for example to do everything it took me more than 140 hours CS4 and 170 Reverie. Beyond the Horizon seems long too.

Interesting. I started Trails serie with English dub. %90-95 of the time I was thinking -and still thinking- that English voices are really good. Voice castings fits the characters as well. Normally I advocate to play JRPG's with Japanese but this serie kinda exception.

well the series before this didn't have English until the Cold Steel saga, the OG Sky trilogy you had to mod in the Japanese voices & the Crossbell duology only had Japanese voices when it released
